Winter in Maine had Izzy missing LA more than she normally did. When she left her hometown, she'd been torn between a desire to stay and a need to escape. Everything back home was a mess of questions and frustrations. Expelled now sat on her transcript and she had to purge her Facebook of people she thought were her friends. The ones who used the platform to share all those juicy details about how she got expelled. It was a miracle it didn't hit major news, but that was thanks to her dad's publicist and local news not allowed to use information or pictures about minors. That helped things from going too far.
Now she was in Maine. Maine was cold and wet and cold. Her wardrobe had required some adjustment, but she still managed to keep with her own sense of style. Bright colors and fun bits of jewelry. Her hair flat with brown streaks mixed in with the darker brown base, hooped earrings, a yellow, blue and green striped sundress with black leggings and ballet flats with a jean jacket. But she had yet to get herself involved in the social scene. She sought for different ways of doing it, but she held back. This whole "Chosen One" thing had started becoming paranoia that Izzy attempted to keep at bay.
The cafeteria was a good place to be social. Izzy, however, had yet to find a group to join, and a lot of these people seemed to grow up with each other. Without any visual cues to join a table, Izzy walked through the cafeteria until she came to sit at a table that was mostly empty except for a boy. She reminded herself as she sat that she was a social person and she deserved to at least talk to people. No man was an island, her dad echoed once, and so she placed the tray of cafeteria food down.
"Hey, what's good?" she asked. She instantly felt more relaxed, now that she said something. Izzy even smiled, making eye contact with the boy.
