Nightmare of the Teddy Bear Stealing Giant
Another story . . . yay! :)
Title: Nightmare of the Teddy Bear Stealing Giant Author: Rach Rating: G Genre: Fluff (does that count?) Summary: Just a short drabble. Peter has a nightmare and can't find his teddy bear.
Davy was woken in the middle of the night by the sound of loud crying. He looked over and saw Peter sitting on his bed, his head in his hands. Jumping out of bed, Davy crossed the room and sat down beside him.
“Peter,” he put his hand on his friends back. “What's the matter?”
Peter simply shook his head as his sobs continued and became louder.
“What's the matter Peter?” Davy tried again. Once again, Peter's crying intensified. Worried, Davy ran upstairs to the other bedroom. “Mike, Mike, Micky, wake up.”
Micky simply mumbled and rolled over, while Mike opened his eyes sleepily. “Whassa matter?”
“Peter's crying,” Davy said quickly. “He won't stop, I don't know what's wrong.”
Mike hurried out of bed and threw his pillow at Micky. Racing down the stairs, he rushed into the bedroom and sat down next to Peter.
“Hey, there, buddy,” as Davy had done, he put his hand on Peter's back and began rubbing it, trying to calm him down. “What's wrong?”
“I had a dream,” Peter said in between sobs. “There was this giant who was walking down the beach, and he came to our house.” Micky had only just sauntered into the room and quickly looked back out the bedroom door, half expecting to see somebody.
“There's nobody out there,” Micky joked.
“Shh,” Mike hushed him, then turned back to Peter, who had already calmed down a little. “What happened next?”
“The giant, he-- he--” Peter seemed unable to go on.
“He what?” Davy asked, glancing out the window.
“He took the roof off the house,” fresh tears began coursing their way down his cheeks. He look up at the others, expecting them to feel the same fear and surprise that he did. “He took my teddy bear!”
“Wha-- huh?” Mike had been expecting to hear some sort of horror story.
“He took my teddy bear,” Peter repeated, his sobs intensifying again. “And when I woke up, my teddy bear was gone.”
“He's gotta be around here somewhere,” Micky said reasonably, and he knelt down to look under the bed.
“Yeah, come on, let's all look,” Mike suggested. They all looked around the room, under the beds, behind the dresser, in the closet. Peter's bear was nowhere to be found.
“Look, don't worry about it, Peter,” Micky said enthusiastically. “Why don't you just go back to sleep?” he shrugged. “I'm sure you'll find your bear in the morning.”
“Yeah,” Davy agreed.
“You think so?” Peter asked hopefully.
“Look, I'm sure of it,” Davy said confidently. Mike and Micky wondered how he could be so sure. Mike was actually having thoughts of going out in the morning and buying Peter a new bear. After all, his teddy surely was nowhere to be found.
“Okay,” Peter said, wiping his eyes. “I hope so.”
Peter's dreams were once again filled with dreams of giants and teddy bears. But this time, when the giant tore off the roof, he had put the teddy bear back. When Peter woke up the next morning, his teddy bear was most definitely lying next to him.
“Davy, you were right!” Peter yelled. “Micky, Mike, you guys were right!” Mike and Micky came running downstairs, happy that Peter had found his bear. “I'm gonna make breakfast, I'm so happy!” he gave his bear a quick hug and hurried out of the room.
“Listen, Davy, last night you seemed pretty sure Peter was gonna find his bear,” Mike said, his tone almost accusing.
“Yeah, how did you know?” Micky asked. Davy moved over to the door to make sure Peter wasn't anywhere within hearing distance.
“I had his bear,” Davy admitted. “I had a nightmare, so I borrowed Peter's bear.” Mike and Micky simply stared at him. “It always helps me get back to sleep, and,” he shrugged. “He's never noticed before.”
“Right,” Micky teased. “Maybe we should get you your own teddy bear.”
“I don't think so,” Davy shook his head and smiled. He grabbed Peter's bear off the bed and went back over to his own. “If you don't mind, I'd like to get some more sleep, just, uh . . .” he sat down on his bed. “Don't let Peter come in here, or else he'll know.”
“Yeah, that wouldn't be a pretty sight, would it?” Mike teased.
“He'd probably be willing to fight you for that bear,” Micky joined in. “You know how protective he is.”
“Right,” Davy agreed, rolling over and closing his eyes. He didn't really want to accommodate their teasing right now. “So just don't tell him.”
Micky and Mike both smiled and left the room. When they saw what Peter was planning for breakfast, they decided perhaps they'd better get some extra sleep, too. No giant plagued their dreams, though. Their nightmare's were based on orange juice flavored pancakes.
