Title: Foolish Games Author: Rach Rating: Probably PG Genre: Drama Summary: Just a short drabble. Davy gets dumped and finds out a secret his girlfriend has been keeping from him.
Davy pulled the Monkeemobile up to the side of the curb. He jumped out, whistling joyfully as he walked up to the door. He had been dating Bethany for close to six months now, and he still enjoyed spending time with her. He knocked on the door, and waited with much anticipation.
Bethany opened the door, but Davy didn't see the usual happiness in her eyes. Instead, they were all red and puffy. She had been crying. He moved to hug her, but she held up a hand.
“Davy,” she cried. “I'm sorry, but you're going to have to leave.”
“But why?” he asked, the concern evident in his voice.
“Because,” she sniffed. “I, uh,” she hesitated for a moment before continuing. “I just can't see you anymore.” Davy was stunned. Sure, he'd had girls break up with him before, but it wasn't very often.
“I'm sorry, Davy,” Bethany tried to shut the door, but Davy held it open.
“Why?” he persisted. Bethany looked for a moment as if she wasn't going to answer, but then she hung her head and let out a sigh.
“Davy, I'm pregnant,” she admitted quietly. Once again, Davy was stunned.
“What? How?” he stammered. “But we never--”
“I know,” Bethany whispered. She looked up again and there were fresh tears in her eyes. Davy knew the truth. She hadn't been faithful. Her eyes showed defeat, “I'm sorry.” Davy reached out, pulled her into a hug, and gave her a quick kiss on the cheek.
“I'm sorry, too,” he told her softly, then turned and walked away.
Davy got back into the Monkeemobile and gave the house a last glance. Through the window he could see Bethany in the arms of another man. A bit upset, he decided to go home. Tonight had been the night he was going to tell her he loved her. But now those words seemed so empty, and he wondered why he didn't feel any worse. In fact, he felt more humiliated than hurt.
This was exactly the reason he didn't make many commitments like this. Sure, he enjoyed playing around and dating different girls. But he also didn't want to commit to a girl, because he was afraid of getting hurt.
Pulling up to the beach house, he parked the car and got out. The downstairs lights were still on, but of course, it was still early. They would wonder why he was back so early. He leaned back over and checked his reflection in the car's rearview mirror, then straightened up and went inside.
“Hey,” Micky exclaimed. “What are you doing back?” He checked his watch, “You been gone about twenty minutes.”
“We decided things weren't really working out between us,” Davy told them with a shrug and a smile. He headed into the bedroom, but popped his head back out. “Hey, anybody want to go to a movie?”
Micky and Peter both shouted their consent, and went to check the paper and see what was playing.
Mike, however, simply nodded and stared at the door Davy had just shut. He knew things had actually been going wonderfully between the two. At least, until tonight. He debated whether he should talk to Davy or not, but when Davy emerged a couple minutes later, no longer wearing his dress suit, he decided against it. Davy would talk about it when he was ready.
Davy, however, wasn't even thinking about it. Sure, he was a bit upset. But he decided he'd rather spend the time with his friends, enjoying a movie, as opposed to spending the time dwelling on the situation. There would be other girls. And maybe, someday, he might actually find someone to love.
