Please pardon my absence over the last few days, if you were looking for me. I was able to find some intel that I think might be of use, though the pickings are slim out there. A lot of my sources have gone quiet. Anyway, I've forwarded what I've found on to Stark.

That's taken care of, and I feel like I need to let off a little steam. There's a lap pool on the grounds, right?

What is it you do, exactly?

Most of the time I procure information. Right now I'm between contracts.

Procure what?

Mostly information. It comes in different shapes and sizes.

You almost sound like a spy.

Do I?

Mhmm.

...

I'm not going to get a real answer, am I?

Not really.

But you're doing a good job investigating.

Don't tempt me.

It probably wouldn't take much. I'm pretty well known around here.

If everyone knows you're a spy, doesn't that negate the point?

I didn't actually say I was a spy.

Apologies. It's fun to be a bit mysterious. I'm not a spy. I was an undercover agent for a fairly secret government agency called SHIELD. SHIELD fell when it was found out there was corruption in the high ranks, and I got a job with the CIA. But I left the CIA a while back.

Right now I jump from contract to contract doing consulting work and keeping up with my contacts.

Yes, but isn't an undercover agent for a secret organization basically a long way of saying 'spy'?

It's not my current profession.

Once a spy, as they say.

Anytime, Pepper. It's the least I can do.

I'm sure I will. And then I'm thinking it might be time for some Irish Coffees.

I just need an hour or so to have a swim and shower, then I'll brew that pot of coffee.

I would go, if I had the chance. But it's not very common in this world to have that sort of chance.

Maybe another opportunity will arise in the future. I wonder if my capabilities will be of use.

Speaking of which, Stark mentioned you are gathering intelligence. I can assist, if you like.

Your capabilities?

I have been. The trouble is that a lot of my sources either don't have anything on these portals, or have gone mute. No one knows anything about Thanos. I feel like I'm flying blind here.

As a pilot. Unlike you, I have been to space. A lot.

Your sources are on Earth. Thanos isn't. Perhaps that's why.

I'm sure they could have used your expertise on this expedition.

It does provide a limited approach. Though, I have contacts with information about the goings-on in space.

[info]fancylee

I'm not convinced. Whatever my expertise, they have no reason to trust me. Sometimes that matters more.

Stark has suggested I assist you. He didn't make it clear if it was an order or not, so I defer to you.

[info]exshieldagent
2021-05-23 05:14 pm UTC (link)
Hmm. I suppose you have a point. Although, have you ever heard the idiom the enemy of the enemy is my friend?

I would take it as a suggestion, rather than an order. Stark isn't really in a position to be giving orders, is he? What would he do if you refused? There's no teeth behind his rules.

[info]fancylee

I can appreciate the pragmatism in that statement but I'm not sure I would go that far.

He could cut me (or any of us) out from the portals. Refuse to return us to our worlds, assuming such a thing becomes possible. Dispose of us.

Logically, anyone who wants to prevent half the universe from disappearing should band together. Then again, if you don't believe what they're saying about Thanos.

You have a point. I suppose I think differently because I'm not from another world.
