When Dean had asked for spoilers, it was due to a mixture of curiosity and boredom. He'd been looking for some juicy bits, funny little things to look forward to. Maybe something along the lines of a screwy hunt or what happened with all the refugee hunters once they'd settled in. He truly hadn't expected to get back news that someday, he would eventually kill God. Nope, hang on. The word used was 'defeat'. Cas said they managed to defeat Chuck. The kill talk was about Jack. Oh, and then there was Sam's stunt with some magic gun. How was it that one simple question flipped the whole day in a matter of minutes? Why was he still surprised about that? It wasn't like it was the first time he'd ever asked something and got some whacked out response that'd thrown him into a tizzy. However, he was in a unique situation; everything he learned, he wouldn't remember once he got back to real life. Right? He'd been there once before, and he knew for sure he had no recollection of it. Cas too, and he remembered nothing of his previous time there. So he could find out whatever he wanted, and there would be no real repercussions. Did he really want to know the answers? It was a a huge revelation to know he and his own would wage battle against Chuck and win. What did that mean for them? For the world they supposedly saved while all the rest were lost? What even started all of it? He paced while he stared at his phone, going over the messages over and over. He had a very insistent, foreboding feeling that he shouldn't dig too deeply and probably wouldn't like what he learned. He was already rethinking the things he planned to ask about. ~ When Dean had initially asked for information, Castiel had attempted to give him only positive things. Unfortunately, he had completely forgotten what the other man didn't know and then managed to screw it all up. He probably should have thought harder on it, and then he wouldn't have revealed that Chuck turns out to be just another bad guy. Of course, he was powerless when it came to Dean and he wouldn't tell him no. He couldn't tell him no. Above all else he was determined to stand his ground on revealing the fact that he wouldn't be there to witness or congratulate their success. And he certainly wasn't about to reveal the love confession he had made. Due to his weakness for the other man and the desire to see him, Cas didn't hesitate to show up outside his door when asked. While he could have simply appeared inside the room, he decided to use the front door and knocked before letting himself in. "Dean, I'm here." ~ It was yet another thing he didn't expect from Castiel, a knock. He was used to him simply showing up next to him, usually well within his personal space. Of course, he didn't know it was Castiel at the door until he walked in and announced himself. "What are you doing knocking?" Dean figured Cas was still a smidge irritated. That was probably why he hadn't just winged straight into the room. "Look." He let his data pad rest on one of the living room end tables, glad to put the damn this aside for a change. "I've been thinking a little about this. I don't think I need to know everything. But, man, I need to understand at least the basics of it. I can't just not know, not now that I know that." It wasn't going to be easy, that was for sure. Dean wasn't one to not want every detail, but he couldn't shake the sense that the nitty gritty bits of it wouldn't be pleasant to learn. Just the prospect of going against God was shifty as hell. ~ Cas looked at Dean blankly for a moment, his jaw agape as he attempted to answer the question. "I...well- I don't know, Dean. I was just trying to be polite. You might have had someone over, or maybe you had just gotten out of-" there was a brief pause and he finished the statement slowly, the volume of his voice dropping, "you might have been in the shower." Fuck. His eyes briefly traveled down the hunter's body and then he turned away completely, avoidant of the other man. Now that he had just said it aloud, he realized that was stupid of him to even assume. Dean had asked him to come over, and he likely had been expecting him right away. "Yes, okay, that's good, very good." Castiel nodded, incredibly glad that Dean had decided he didn't want all the information. He had gone through more than his fair share of turmoil and he didn't need to carry around additional emotional baggage that he had no control over. "I don't-" he paced around the room slowly, looking every which way but in Dean's direction. He wasn't sure that he could do this. What if he let something slip and Dean questioned it? "Chuck was threatened by Jack because of his power, and he wanted him gone. He had originally stated that he couldn't kill him, which was why it fell to one of you, and...you told him no, and then it just snowballed from there." ~ Who would he even have over aside from Bobby or Sam or Castiel himself? There had been no women to bring by; it hadn't felt right to try and hook up with any of the other people ripped from their worlds. He didn't really have any real reasoning behind that line of thought. It just was what it was. And he hadn't spent more than a minute or two speaking to anyone 'outside' the people he knew from the facility. Though now that he was prompted to think about it, it certainly had been some time since he'd had a 'visitor' with whom interruptions were strongly discouraged. His gaze zeroed in on Castiel as the other man went around, awfully curious as to whatever the issue could be behind the apparent nervousness. Just how bad did things get?? It made his brain go off in all different routes, most of them landing on the conclusion that either A- something must have happened to him, and Cas didn't want him to know about it or B- there was some lacking bit of information that Cas knew he would not take well. Both possibilities presented the same question... What the hell really happened? "So... Chuck was scared of Jack? Because he's powerful? But... Chuck is Chuck! How does anybody out power Chuck? He's God, for fuck's sake! What's there to be threatened by? Jack's barely a year old!" He was good kid. He made mistakes, sure, but everybody screwed up sometimes. Sometimes majorly. Dean just couldn't understand the problem. "Did Jack do something that bad to catch Chuck's eye?" "You said he originally stated he couldn't get rid of Jack himself. You said he wanted me to do it, and he flipped out because I said no. And then, now correct me if I'm wrong, you said me, Sam, and Jack defeat Chuck and save the world. When you say it snowballed, and I'm assuming that's between me refusing to kill Jack and us defeating Chuck, what do you mean exactly?" ~ "Dean, are you even serious right now? You literally just said about one minute ago that you didn't want all the details, just the basics. I gave you the basics and then you follow up with more questions. Why? What difference does it make? Obviously, Jack is capable of great things, which is why Chuck feared him. Maybe not feared so much as he felt threatened by him. It's really not that complicated. I mean, he's the reason I came back again. He woke me up in the empty, a place in which Chuck had no control over. That alone should tell you just how powerful he is." He exclaimed in exasperation, the volume of his voice even rising unintentionally. Castiel walked around to fall down on the couch, both hands rubbing briskly at his face while he tried to focus on what was really important. Dean. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to get loud like that. I just..." As usual, he had only made things worse and he didn't understand why he couldn't keep himself in check when it came to Dean. He wanted to tell Dean, but he didn't want him to get hurt again. "It's just that, you know what you mean to me and I am trying to protect you, Dean. That's all I've ever done. I try so hard and I just fuck it up. It feels like I'm never there for you when you actually need me and-" what the hell was he doing? None of this was about him. He wondered if Sam knew everything, as they hadn't had much of an opportunity to speak in depth about anything. "You did what you always do, Dean. You fight for the right thing, no matter how high a price you have to pay." |
