He was upset. She wished she could fix it. When she'd talked about regret on the network the day he'd arrived, she'd been referring to so many things, but the break up had been one of them.
"I know," she said as she stood back up. She didn't want to leave him standing there, looking so lost. "I do. I know this you wouldn't. But time changes things. And in a couple of months..." She took a breath and took his hands again. "I'm at fault for it too. I wish I could take it back. I didn't give us a second chance. And I should have, but I was hurting and I needed you to figure out what you wanted... and then didn't listen."
There was so much more to the story, so much more she had to tell him, but back home she never could have said this. Too much had happened.
She dropped his hands, wrapping her arms around herself and looking up to meet his eyes. "I'm sorry."
