Alice + Alyssa
Alice looked down at her bright pink drink and admired the style of it, even if she'd barely taken two sips. For the first hour, she'd told herself that it was still early and maybe he was just late, but now she had to face the facts—her date wasn't coming. Maybe she'd been mistaken and it wasn't actually a date. The guy was just someone random she'd met at a coffee shop in Manhattan, a normal, non-portal guy. That part of it had been appealing, a sort of escape from the reality of being a portal refugee. But maybe it had been a pipe dream anyway. Eventually she would have had to confess that she could disappear at any time, and that even within this world she sometimes she woke up in places she hadn't been when she'd fallen asleep.
Yeah, probably a bad idea, and it wasn't that she was all that attached to the guy just yet, but disappointment made her sag in her seat and sapped her appetite, even for the beautiful drink.
