Yelena was actually quite nervous about this. She had never thought of herself as the kind of person to fall into a relationship before. And she hadn't been looking when she and Eliot were whisked away to Camelot for an entire year. The only way she'd been able to survive (without killing basically everyone) was to get married to Eliot. It'd offered her a ton of freedoms that she wouldn't have as a young, unmarried woman. Together they had the adventure of a lifetime, and over the year they grew from aquaintences, to friends, to fake husband and wife, to something more. Something undefinable.
When they returned to this world, they continued to meet and spend time together, though it was private. Yelena hadn't felt the need to broadcast anything, especially when she was still trying to figure out what it all meant. Somewhere along the lines she'd fallen for him. She couldn't pinpoint when it happened, but she couldn't deny how much she loved him now. For a woman who hadn't really ever had feelings before, this was a lot to process.
Together, they decided to tell their families about their marriage. It might not have been legally binding in this world--were marriages from alternate dimensions binding?--but Yelena and Eliot decided to keep up their arrangement. And it was time to let everyone else know. Tonight was a big "meet the _____" moment: time for Natasha and Eliot to meet and spend a little time together.
Yelena was moving around the little apartment tidying and straightening things that didn't need to be tidied or straightened. (Fannie was watching her pace around from the dog's spot on her dogbed.) It was really important to Yelena that tonight go well. She wasn't sure what she'd do if it didn't.
