In his shock at being on another world; Kal failed in his usual filtering of the billions of voices from the planet’s inhabitants. Closing his eyes for a moment against the tumult of cries for help, he focused instead on the sounds closer at hand. Heartbeats of tens of people in this building complex, footsteps, some closer than others, the whir of machines and the energy’s own peculiar hum, far higher in frequency than even most animals could hear.
The gravelly voice reminded him somewhat of Bruce, but when he turned to see who had spoken, the being before him couldn’t have been more different. Tilting his head, Kal drifted closer, losing altitude as he moved back across the vast room until he alighted just a few feet from the man. “I take it I’m not the first unexpected guest from another Earth?”
