Who: Daisy and Henry What: Dealing with a disappeared Lighthouse? When: March 16, early morning Where: Outside where the Lighthouse would have been Warning: Low/None (Henry almost wolfs out) Status: Completed via Gdoc
Henry and Daisy decided to go out for coffee bright and early. Of course, they had a coffee machine (or two) at the Lighthouse… but what they didn’t have was freshly made pastries and bagels. So Henry suggested that they hop in a car and drive out to the bakery in New Asgard and come back with treats for everyone at the Lighthouse. Together they collected up some treats from the bakery, along with a handful of lattes, etc. Then they headed back to the Lighthouse to surprise their friends and colleagues, waiting to break into the giant pastry box until they arrived.
But when the car pulled up the driveway, there was something really, really wrong.
Henry climbed out of the car and stared up at the place where the Lighthouse used to be. “Uh… this is a problem.”
*
Everything smelled so good and Daisy didn’t know if she could wait until they got back to the Lighthouse. Nobody would really care if she started now, would they? All she would have to do is reach in and pick one of the goodies that were in the box. And she was about to until she caught the look on Henry’s face. It wasn’t because of what she was about to do, no, it was whatever he was looking at in front of him. When Daisy finally looked up, she could see exactly why he looked very, very concerned.
The moment he stopped the car, she quickly set the stuff aside and got out. “Uh, where's the Lighthouse?” Her first thought was that maybe they took a wrong turn, but that was stupid. Henry obviously knew how to get to the lighthouse without getting lost. So, where the hell did it go? “Has this happened before?”
*
“No…” Henry gave a little shake of his head as he started walking toward the now empty spot. The empty spot where the Lighthouse used to stand. How long had they been gone? An hour? Two, at the most? And suddenly the building was gone? …with all the people inside?
“Jemma…” He said, moving forward with a little more urgency. “Fitz? Alya?” But there was no one there.
*
Daisy looked around once again, wondering where everybody was? Did they have time to get the hell out? Or did they just disappear like the Lighthouse did? “Hello!?” she shouted out. She stayed still a moment, waiting to see if she’d hear somebody call back but nothing.
“Buildings don’t just disappear… it has to be somewhere.” She would have said people too, but in this place people did disappear. Is that what happened? Had they all been sent back?
*
Henry was trying not to panic, but it was growing increasingly hard. The whole damn building was gone. His friends were nowhere in sight. His family. Save for Daisy, he didn’t know where the rest of his family were. The others who all lived here, worked here, may have been visiting, even?
He waited while Daisy called out for them, hoping that they’d hear someone call back. No such luck. This was painful and insane.
“Jemma!? Fitz!?” he called out, moving forward. It was so bizarre. The building should be right here. There wasn’t even foundation left, just… ground.
*
Daisy didn’t like this. She didn’t like it at all. She had held her breath, waiting for someone, anyone, to say something, but nobody did. It was silent.
“Do you think they were sent away?” she asked as she walked towards the spot where the Lighthouse should be. She didn’t want to panic. She was trying not to panic. Panicking wouldn’t help them right now. There had to be a reason for this. Right?
*
“I don’t know.” Henry turned back toward her, his eyes shifting, his face changing. He had to take some deep breaths in order to get his wolf side under control. But he managed. He was in control almost all the time, even if there was a fear.
“We need to get in touch with the Science Team. Maybe head to the Facility lab to check the portal readings.” A spike in Portal energy would tell them everything they needed to know.
*
“Yeah, okay, we can do that but first, I think you need to calm down,” she told him as she watched his wolfy side trying to come out. She didn’t think it would be a good idea to go anywhere at the moment. Not if his emotions were going make him lose control. “I know this,” she motioned around them where the Lighthouse should be, “ is a lot, but we can’t lose ourselves. Not if we want to figure out what is going on.”
*
Henry clenched and unclenched his fists at his sides, taking deep breaths to try and calm his speeding pulse. It’d been a long time since he’d completely lost control. Even when Darcy left, he’d chosen to transform, and had gone running through the woods to blow off some steam. The panic at the missing building combined with the anxiety that he might lose control were making him freak out. But he knew he had to get it together. She was right--they had to keep their heads if they wanted to get to the bottom of this.
He swallowed, nodded, and took another deep breath, finally getting a hold of himself. “...we should contact the Facility. Let them know what’s going on.”
*
Daisy watched Henry very closely. She’d take him down if she had to. She just hoped that she wouldn’t have to.
“We can do that…while we head over there. Are you good yet? Or do you need some more time to calm down?”
*
“I’m good.” Henry was probably 90% good. He wasn’t sure what would happen if he lost Jemma, or Fitz, or Alya. He’d probably lose it. And people should definitely not be around if that were the case.
He led the way into the car and pulled his seatbelt on. “Should we drive over there? You want to call? I could call Cisco. I have no idea what’s going on--it’s possible they already know.”
*
“Good.” She followed Henry back to the car, still keeping an eye on him. Just in case.
Once she got in, she said, “Let’s just go over there. They could be busy and not even see our calls.” Not only that but once they got there if nobody even noticed what was going on, they could go and have a look for themselves.
*
That was true--the Science Team were probably up to their ears in this if they knew what was going on. And if they didn’t?.... Well how could they not? Security had to be freaking out about it, too. An entire building disappeared!
“...If something’s happened to them, I… I don’t know what I’ll do.” It was all he could say, though, because he really didn’t want to have another freakout moment in the car. Not with Daisy around. Not when she was still fairly new back, still didn’t know him as well as the last version of her had.
*
“We’ll figure it out when or if we cross that bridge.” She didn’t want to think that they were just gone. Just like that. Honestly, it wasn’t fair. But she couldn’t let her negative thoughts get the best of her. Not when it seemed like Henry might just jump over the edge and lose himself. One of them had to keep their head on straight.
*
It was a very good thing that Daisy was keeping her head on straight, as Henry was on the verge. He started up the car and turned around in the drive to head out. Thankfully it wasn’t a long drive to get to the Facility. Long enough that he could start to calm down, but not so long that he would start panicking again.
He opened his mouth to speak, but then closed it again. The only thing he could think to say was going to send him on a spiral. He sped up a little, frowning as he stared out the windshield.
*
Daisy saw that he thought about saying something but something made him change his mind. Should she ask? Maybe she shouldn’t poke the bear or wolf in this case. “They’re going to be ok…” she whispered because they just had to be.
