Who: Kate and Stiles What: Going out for ice cream When: After this conversation Where: starting in the garage Warning: TBD Status: Completed via Gdoc
Stiles wasted no time in getting up and heading down to the garage where Kate’s car was parked. They were once again going out and funny enough it was to eat more junk than they probably should consume. But, eh, you only live once, so why not chow down on things that were considered bad for you?
He must have ran or walked pretty fast because he was waiting by Kate’s car long before Kate showed up. When she did, he smiled and watched as she walked towards him. “Well, hello,” he greeted, pulling her close when she was close enough to do so. “Took you long enough,” he teased before giving her a quick kiss on the lips.
*
Kate wandered down to the garage, assuming that Stiles was going to take more time than he did. When she reached her car, she felt a little bad that he was there waiting for her. “Hey!” She broke into a bright smile at the sight of him. “You uh… been here long?” She asked. “I didn’t mean to make you wait.”
She stepped up to him to steal a quick kiss. “Ice cream?”
*
“Yes, I have been waiting forever,” he told her, trying to keep a straight face but he ended up breaking out into a smile. “No, not really. Maybe a few minutes.”
He nodded. “Yes, ice cream. Let’s go!” Once the door was unlocked, he got in.
*
“Ice cream!” Kate beamed as she climbed into the car and buckled up. “We’ve got to spend my surprise twenty-six dollars somehow.” And spending them on a sundae to share with Stiles seemed like the best way.
Even though they’d still been sneaking into each other’s bedrooms to cuddle up overnight (innocently, save for some meaningful kisses and a little over-the-pajamas petting) they hadn’t had much chance for meaningful conversations. Kate glanced over at Stiles as she drove. “So, how does it feel to have your dad here?”
*
“I’m pretty sure that sundae costs almost twenty six dollars.” It was a lot of ice cream and lots of other goodies were in it too. At least, that’s what it looked like in the picture.
“It feels…nice and weird all at the same time. I was getting kind of used to him not being here, but it also sucked not having him around.” there was a whole mix of emotions when it came to his dad showing up. “Oh yeah, speaking of my dad…” he looked over at Kate, “He wanted me to tell you that if you ever needed someone to talk to, he’s around. I told him how we met and how we grew close. He understands the whole drinking and blacking out thing…so, yeah.” He hadn’t given his dad too many details. “Feel free to borrow my dad if you need to.”
*
"It's a good way to spend it." It was only twenty bucks… Kate wanted to spend it on her boyfriend. She reached over for his hand as she drove.
Then what he said next made her heartbeat sped up. "Wait, you told him I partied too much?" Her face went pink. "Stiles. Damn. What he must think of me." Not only was she considerably older than him, but a drunk, too?
"I was really hoping to have a good first impression."
*
“I think so too.” He smiled over at her as he laced his fingers with hers.
Uh oh, should he have not said anything? “I doubt he thinks badly of you. I mean, he would be a hypocrite if he did. Anyway, he knows you make me happy, so he’s not going to think badly of you.”
He brought her hand up and kissed the back of it. “And you still will. Don’t worry too much about it.”
*
Kate sighed deeply, leaning back in her driver’s seat. The last thing in the world she wanted was for Stiles’s Dad, the Sheriff Stilinski to think she was a cradle-robbing party-girl. A drunk, who was obviously leading his only son down a terrible path. If only her heart would slow down.
She was quiet for a long moment. “You make me really happy, too,” she responded, giving his hand a little squeeze. “I’m going to worry. That ship has sailed. But I’ll try not to.”
*
“I know…” He could tell she was worrying now. She didn’t need to. “If I didn’t think my dad would like you or think badly about you, I wouldn’t have said anything. Not until after he met you in person. It’ll be fine. He just likes to help anyone I care about and I care about you. A lot.”
*
A deep breath in, and then out again. Kate was trying not to worry, but that was hard. Noah seemed like a really decent guy, too. A good man. And they were relatively hard to come by.
“I care about you, too. A whole lot.” She ran her thumb along his finger where they were laced next to each other, then turned into the parking lot where the restaurant lived. “So much that I’m about to spend twenty-six dollars on ice cream with you.” Beat. “I know. You’re welcome.”
*
Hearing Kate say that made him smile. So, it’s out there. They both care about each other. A lot. They were on the same page with all of this and hopefully they would continue on because he really did like being with her. “You will be the first to ever spend that much on ice cream with me.”
When she parked, he leaned over and gave her a kiss. “Come on, let’s stuff ourselves silly.” Another kiss and he got out of the car.
*
If Kate had any say in it, they’d stay together for a long time. “I guess there’s a first time for everything.” Kate parked, and turned to him just in time for the first kiss, which made her grin happily. And just a couple of kisses was definitely not enough for her. There would definitely be more of those later.
Kate followed him out of the car, locked up, and headed into the restaurant, slipping her hand into his as they moved. Inside, they were seated by the same hostess as before, who gave them a warm, knowing smile.
Kate smirked as she sat, remembering the story they’d told the host the last time they were here--about being out for an anniversary dinner. Unable to hide her smirk, she buried her face in her menu until the hostess headed back to her station.
*
Stiles sat down and said thanks to the hostess before she walked off. He set the menu down because he didn’t need to look it over. Not to mention, he didn’t want to be tempted by all of the other food on it. They were there for that giant sundae. And he wanted enough room in his stomach to handle that monster of a thing.
“You’re not going to order anything else are you?” he asked, wondering if Kate would want to eat anything else.
*
Kate gave a little shake of her head and closed the menu. “I was just remembering the last time we were here. When I needed the ice for my ankle, and I told the hostess that it was our anniversary dinner? Do you remember?”
They weren’t even officially dating at the time. (Just kissing?) It’d been their first date.
“Anyway, it was the same hostess.”
*
Stiles looked back at the hostess station and, yep, it was the same one from their date night. “Yeah, I remember now,” he told her with a smile. He really hadn’t been paying that much attention until Kate brought it to his attention. “That was a good night.” Even if the jeep tried to break down and Kate hurt her ankle. It was still all pretty good.
When the waitress finally came over, Stiles wasted no time in ordering the giant sundae.
*
“It really was,” Kate responded, her foot finding his under the table. She smiled warmly up at the waitress, then handed over her menu after the sundae was ordered. Once their hands were free, Kate reached out for Stiles’s hand with her own, giving his fingers a gentle squeeze. It was weird to sit on the opposite side of the table. Normally when they hung out together at home, they sat side by side. But getting to see his face was nice, too.
“So, did you figure anything else out about your High School stuff? The GED, or whatever?”
*
Smiling, Stiles moved his foot so he could trap her’s with both of his. When the menus were gone, he did reach over and grab a hold of her hand. They normally did sit next to one another. Sitting across from one another only really happened when they ate out. Then again, he was thinking about moving so he could sit next to her.
“Oh, yeah, gotta go talk to someone in person and get it all set up and stuff. Then I can take it, hopefully pass it, and then be done with high school.” And then he would need to figure out what to do next.
*
It might be easier for them to get at the sundae from different sides of the table, but Kate would be lying if she said she wouldn’t rather have him beside her. Though, there was something fun about playing footsie, holding hands, acting like silly teenagers in love.
“So, there’s a lady at the facility… well, maybe she’s at the Wakandan Consulate? Anyway, her name is … Monroe, I think. Ms. Monroe? She’s helped a lot of the others with their schoolwork. I bet she could help you.”
*
“I’ll keep that in mind.” He didn’t really think he’d need any help with schoolwork. There were a few things he felt a little iffy on. But he was pretty confident that he could probably pass the test and be done with high school.
His eyes went a bit wide when he saw the waitress coming back with their giant sundae. “Wow…” He knew it looked big in the picture, but it looked massive in person.
*
It was really more help getting the GED paperwork, or whatever else he needed. Ororo Monroe helped students get registered for school, file paperwork with the state, whatever. But Stiles could take care of it, she knew. So there was no need to push.
“Holy crap.” Kate grinned when the waitress set the Sundae down in front of them. There were two spoons. “...I mean, I guess for twenty-something dollars, they had to include everything but the kitchen sink?” She gave him a grin. “Are you ready for this?”
*
“I mean, it’s pretty much everything but the kitchen sink,” he said with a small laugh. He couldn’t stop staring at the monster of a sundae that had been placed in front of them. So many different toppings were on it too. So much sugar. They were totally going into a sugar coma later.
“Hell yeah,” he grabbed one of the two spoons and wasted no time in digging in.
*
Kate laughed. They were definitely going into a sugar coma later. In the meantime there was a giant sundae to eat (with everything but the kitchen sink on it) and fun times to be had by all. She grabbed her own spoon and attacked the sundae herself.
For a few long moments there was no talking. There was just eating ice cream, grinning, Kate’s foot still sandwiched between both of his under the table. It was certainly telling that they could sit together so comfortably together in silence.
“Oh my God,” she said after a moment. “...forget what I said before. This is the best thing I’ve ever put in my mouth.”
*
He didn’t even really notice that they had quit talking. They had been far too busy shoveling ice cream into the mouths. Which was perfectly fine. For the moment. He still had her foot trapped between his own. Except, it wasn’t really trapped. She could move it whenever she wanted. Once in a while he would lightly rub the heal of her shoe with the side of his.
“I think I’ve died and gone to junk food heaven.” This sundae was the best sundae he had ever had. He wasn’t sure any other sundae would be able to live up to this one.
“We really need to find other things to put in your mouth,” he told her with a smirk on his lips.
*
“You and me both.” Junk food heaven. It was pretty much their favorite place to go when they were together, wasn’t it?
Kate found a large deposit of hot fudge, and took a scoop of it. “Do you have any suggestions?” One eyebrow raised, she licked the fudge off of her spoon.
*
He tilted his head a little as he watched her lick the fudge off of the spoon. It shouldn't be hot watching her do that since it wasn’t like she was trying to make it that way, but maybe his mind was just heading into the gutter. Which, honestly, didn’t take much.
“Hm?” he finally focused on what she was saying. “I might.”
*
Kate grinned softly at his expression. Of course she’d been trying to be flirtatious with licking the chocolate, and it seemed like it worked.
“We’ll have to work together on that.” She scooped her spoon again and took another bite of ice cream, then leaned back in her chair as she ate it. It was a lot of ice cream, a lot of sugar, and Kate was … actually quite full now.
“But for now… you wanna go back and take Lucky on a walk with me?” She was going to have to walk off some of this ice cream.
*
He slowly took another bite, he was getting pretty full. “Yeah, I think so,” he said in agreement.
She looked like she was out for the count. No more sundae for her. Then again, he wasn’t far behind her. It felt like he had eaten his weight in ice cream. He had to take one more bite, though. It was so damn good.
“Yeah, I do.” Or he might just go home and pass out in a sugar coma. “Gotta burn off this sugar somehow.”
*
Gotta burn off this sugar somehow. It came across so very flirtatiously. Kate raised an eyebrow.
“That’s what I was thinking.” She grinned over at him, turning her foot just a little to run the toe of her shoe against the back of his ankle. Then she lifted a hand to flag down their waitress.
“Can we get our check? Thanks.” And her eyes came back to his.
The waitress was fast, and put the check down on the table. Kate followed it up with enough cash to cover the cost of the sundae, along with a generous tip. Then she pulled her foot away from his and stood. “C’mon. Take me home.”
*
“I’m glad to see that we’re on the same page.” He smiled, the feel of her shoe sending slight tingling up his leg.
He took one more bite even though he pretty much told himself that he was done, but really, it was hard to stop. Good thing the check was paid and they were leaving now.
“You got it.” He stood up, held his hand out for her and then walked out hand in hand with Kate.
