Not fair. He had her trapped, and he knew it. There was no way that she could refuse his request. Suddenly the reporters from other papers and news stations started surreptitiously taking her picture between shots of the charming billionaire at the podium, and Lois felt incredibly awkward. He was promising to make a massive personal donation if she would just have a meal with him. Sacrifices had to be made for the greater good.
Honestly, it wasn't that much of a sacrifice, though. As much as Lois hated Bruce's arrogance and egocentric attitude, he was undeniably affable and charming. And although she was not swept off her feet by his manner as many other women were, it was not unpleasant to spend time with him.
So Lois matched his smile with a knowing grin refraining from response as long as possible to see if she could make him uncomfortable. "You have yourself a deal, Mr. Wayne," she said confidently with a measured hint at a laugh.
He hadn't said date, after all. Just dinner. And while Lois knew that most of the reporters present would try to paint it in that light, she would do her best to keep it professional.
