He was just looking out for her, as he always had. Just keeping her safe, but this time, Lois was responsible for another, and when she realized that Superman's protection of her had allowed Lena to get away with Iris, a gut-wrenching panic and fear set in. The details of what had occurred were quite literally blurry, since Lois's eyes couldn't follow the movements of Superman, Iris, or Lena. All she knew was that Iris was gone.
"Iris!" she screamed helplessly, pulling herself from Superman's grasp and running after them a few steps in utter futility before her body could process the uselessness of the effort. As the sonic boom sounded several blocks away, Lois whirled back to Superman.
"We have to get her back! Where would they take her, how can we find them?" Her speech had become a stream of consciousness as tears of helpless impotence started running down her cheeks and she moved past Superman to her ruined workspace. Most of the papers were scattered over the floor, or still in the air, but Lois immediately pulled open the drawers, rifling through old files, trying desperately to solve who had sent the kidnapper, and how she could find them. Enough clues had been dropped, she could piece it together and find a way to get Iris back. "There has to be something," she told herself, hating herself for failing so completely as the girl's caretaker. Alone, she could do almost nothing in this situation. But that would not keep her from trying.
