Who: Atlee, Miriam Delgado, Julienne Delgado (npc), Lisa (npc) Where: Julienne's daycare/around town, New York City, NY When: 04/29/10 -- afternoon Summary: After work, Miri picks her daughter up from daycare. Then things get weird.
Miri had been tired when she arrived home in the early afternoon, so she'd decided to take a quick nap before picking Julienne up from nursery school. It was a good thing, too, because Julienne appeared to be in high spirits (READ: full of energy) when she arrived at the school just after three. Miri smiled as her daughter threw her entire body into a hug for her mom and began prattling on about the day at lightning speed.
One of the teachers came over, as was customary whenever a parent or guardian came to pick up a child, and told Julienne to go get her shoes. Then she smiled apologetically at Miri. "One of the kids had a birthday today and the parents brought cupcakes."
"Ah." Miri shrugged; nothing she could do about the sugar intake now. "Well, at least she had a good day."
The teacher nodded enthusiastically. "She did. We did some water play earlier and she had a ball." Julienne returned and the teacher crouched in front of her. "You all ready to go, JuJu?"
Julienne nodded.
The teacher fixed her shoelaces then gave her a hug. "Okay, I'll see you tomorrow."
"'Bye, Lisa!" Julienne called with a wave as she took her mom's hand.
Miri smiled down at her daughter, impressed by her open heart not for the first time. "So you had a good day?" she asked as she led Julienne out the door.
"Yeah!" Julienne nodded enthusiastically. "There were cupcakes and I got one with blue frosting. It was really yummy."
Laughing, Miri pivoted through the various doors to get out on the street. "I'm glad to hear that, Julie."
Once they were outside, Julienne held her arms up to signal that she wanted to be carried. Suppressing a sigh, Miri acquiesced. Sore arms aside, it was easier to navigate the busy city when she didn't have a three year old in tow.
"So who did you play today, Mommy?" Julienne asked excitedly.
Miri smiled again as she hipchecked the crosswalk signal. "Well..."
