Who: A joker and Batman
Where: Gotham city
When: Morning -- Saturday, April 24th, 2010
Summary: The Joker lures the Bat out has a little fun with Gotham.
Downtown on a chilly Saturday morning, the city's popular mall Marcy's, was full to the brim. The parking lot was crammed with cars, little league games have been postponed and play-dates had been rescheduled. Many families gathered in anticipation of today's opening sale. In the centre of the mall, a little girl who wore a ruffled burgundy dress with a matching bow, sat with her mother on the rim of the sprinkling fountain, while she dipped her tiny fingers in the water. She heard what sounded like many bicycles approaching, accompanied by the sound of other children laughing. She looked up and saw what could have been a carnival on four wheels.
An enormous clown head with a huge smile sat on top of an umbrella, that looked like a circus big-top, and was lined with several different coloured balloons. Miniature bells that lined the rim of a cart rang and enticed children to come running forth and cast their eyes on the electric pink cotton candy, freshly popped buttered popcorn (still popping), balloons (some of them animal-shaped), and chibi plush clown dolls. The dolls wore multicoloured clown outfits on top of which disproportionately large heads were set. They all had the same red smile with big baby like eyes, innocent and brown. Their hair was green.
The little girl in the burgundy dress pulled her mom up towards the cart and approached the man in charge of the wagon (who was handing out balloons) and it's treasures. She wondered if the man was a giant and if he really worked in a circus. As she waited for her turn, she thought about the kind of colour balloon she would get. Once decided, she called to him.
"Hello, mister!"
The tall man turned toward the little girl and noticed how small she was.
"Weeell," the muffled voice began, as he pulled his pant leg up before he knelt down to one knee.
"And what colour balloon would you like, princess?"
As he came closer, the small girl noticed how long his dark shoes were, the loud colours of his striped clowny two piece suit, and the strangest thing of all, the mask that hid his face— it was white, blue around the mouth and red around the eyes and nose. It seemed sad and frowny.
"...Red." She answered with half of the enthusiasm she initially had, a little put off by the sight of his mask.
The clown stood on his feet and grabbed the very last balloon which happened to be her requested colour.
"Heeeey!" Stooping down to his knee again.
"Lucky you! This is my last balloon for today.." After handing the smiling girl her balloon, he jumped to his feet and said: "But the fun's not over yet, kids! Who wants to see coolest balloon show, ever?"
An excited gaggle of children gathered around the wagon, and cheered for the show to start. The clown began the countdown and the kids joined in:
"5...4...3...2...1!"
With a press of a button, he released the balloons from around the umbrella. They were blown above the crowds and all at once blew up, releasing nothing but confetti among the spectators. Children applauded, even the ones frightened by the loud pop. When the air began to clear, he pushed another button, which released a new set of concealed balloons that appeared from underneath the umbrella. Just like the other ones, these made their way above the crowd.
The girl in the burgundy dress covered her ears, expecting another loud pop. Once it came, she saw a thick green cloud of smoke. The cheering gave way to the laughter as many people started to crash into the floor, unable to stand, laughing uncontrollably.
The clown was the only one left standing.
