Scandal didn't like failing, however, even she had to admit that sooner or later the group would have to cut their losses. They could try to freelance and see if Wayne would pony up money in return for his freedom (and given the demeanor of the man, it seemed likely.) They could try to extort a ransom from someone in Wayne's company or take Mr. Lawton's direct route which would be a bullet between the eyes.
Even though she hated to admit it, Scandal loathed that idea. Combatants were one thing but foppish playboys were hardly a threat. Still. They couldn't stay here. They didn't have much gear, but Scandal was busy in the bedroom.
She was stuffing what little they had brought with them into duffel bags. She carefully stowed away the guns and ropes, while tossing leftover bits of lace and ribbon carelessly on the floor. The atmosphere was changing. The hired help was getting restless and the Six were getting twitchy. They needed to be long gone before the sirens showed up.
