What do you do when an application can't be saved? Looking for some advice about what to do when an applicant's writing is just... so bad that it's essentially unsalvageable.
I'm not looking to be a jerkass, or to cut this player down. Quite the opposite, actually. I've been searching for advice on rejecting applications, and the general consensus is that people prefer constructive criticism on how they can improve. And if this were just one issue, that would be the way I'd go.
No, my question is more about what to do when the level of writing is just... beyond repair. Like, to point out the places they'd gone wrong grammatically and stylistically would involve basically rewriting the entire application for them, and I'm not even sure how to explain some of the things they've done in a way that would make it clear.
I fear that even in asking this question I'm coming across as snobbish and frankly a grammar pedant, and that's the last thing I want to do. I don't want to be snarky or cruel. I just don't want to resort to the vague "you're not a good fit for us" because despite the lack of quality, they DID put effort into writing this app - I feel obligated to give them something in return.
