"Caesar salad," Naomi ordered, handing her menu over the waitress, who then shuffled off into the kitchen with her notepad.
"Oh, Houston is a nice city," Dr. Richardson returned her attention to the woman across the table, carefully gauging Caroline's reactions to her appraisal of the state as she spoke. "Corpus Christi, too. Beautiful weather we had when we were there, although a little too hot for my tastes. I grew up in the foothills of the Rockies, so I'm not really used to anything above seventy-five degrees." A short chuckle. "Anyway, I've only seen the Gulf Coast a handful of times. What time I've spent in Texas has mostly been in Austin, of course." And she stopped short. Not knowing Caroline's opinions on Friedman, she thought better of talking up her many visits to 1010 Colorado St., Austin--once again, as always, she found herself smirking silently at the street address.
"Pit boss sounds like an important job," Naomi went on, relaxing a little into the back of her seat. Where her hands rested on the table, she began, absentmindedly, to spin the wedding band on her thumb. "We did a little gambling in Corpus Christi when we where there, but that was always my husband's area, not mine."
