"Nothing," Naomi sighed. Times were difficult, she had to remind herself. Though she found the "Princess" remark more than a little rude, Naomi swallowed her pride and reassessed the situation.
"Caroline?" Fixing her purse strap once more straightening her back, Naomi forced a smile. "I'm Naomi. I'm sorry that we keep...running into each other so unpleasantly." Understatement. Naomi hoped that if she were calm Caroline would be calm as well. She hoped that if she were friendly, Caroline might at least find her less offensive than she apparently did at the moment. "Do you live around here?" Of course, Naomi knew very few of her neighbors. She kept her door locked and went outside only to catch a cab to work. For all she knew, this woman might have lived down the hall and she had never known it. Oh, how Naomi hoped this wasn't case. She doubted very much that she could win this woman's affections very easily, and living so close to someone so surly did not appeal to Naomi in the least.
