Entry tags:! rp, - 2020 october, - quidditch pitch, [player: caz], [player: halo], benjamin higgins, jacob flint, scorpius malfoy

October 1, 2020 - This, that, and the other thing
Who: Jacob, Scorpius, Ben
Where: Quidditch pitch
When: Early afternoon
Rating: PG?
Status: Closed, completed
Summary: The quidditch team snarks at each other on the pitch, and Jacob shakes up the positions just to see what happens.

Jacob was glad practices had actually started - and he was kind of annoyed that it had taken them so long to get things scheduled and settled. He also tried not to be annoyed that this was his last year, and his last shot at getting the cup. He wondered how the other houses were holding up, really.

"Malfoy," he barked to the blond. "Watch what you're doing, and ignore the rest of them."

He ignored Malfoy's rude gesture and continued to survey the others flying around the pitch. He also tried to ignore the audience, and he wondered why they hadn't banned people from watching practices.

Though on the flip side of that, he supposed that would mean he couldn't torment the Gryffindors during their practices ... he supposed it was a fair trade after all.

Ben was still a little smug from his impromptu run in with the 'puff the day before, pleased he'd managed to twist things in his favour. He was wondering idly if he actually could spread a rumour similar to the one he'd insinuated had already been flying and thought he might look into that.

First practice of the year and he was already distracted. This was not a good sign. Buckling down, he tried to pay attention to the goings on rather than his own idle thoughts.

Scorpius was annoyed, but he was accustomed to Jacob's particular style of captaining and he tried not to let it get to him. Instead, he swooped around the pitch in erratic patterns that probably only made sense to him as he sought the ever-elusive snitch.

Jacob flew around as well, figuring they should have started off with drills rather than this half-assed game, but too late now. He glanced to the stands as he saw new people showing up, and he groaned. Did Moore and Farnsworth ever have anything better to do than watch his team practice?

Ben untucked the Quaffle from under his arm and tossed it to Jacob. He wondered how well they really did with just the team; it couldn't be a full game. But it was better than the nothing they could be doing, so he didn't complain. And really, he didn't want to be captain. Leave that to the other blokes; he was just here to play.

Jacob caught the Quaffle easily and started to streak down the field toward the goals to see how on their keeper was today. He pitched the quaffle once he was within range, both pleased and disappointed when it went through. Pleased at how well he was doing, but disappointed that it hadn't been blocked.

Sweeping down, he caught the quaffle and tossed it back toward Ben so he could have a go. While he was waiting, he glanced around to see where Scorpius was.

Ben caught the ball and streaked down the field his own self, faking to one side as he neared before rolling to the other and tossing it through one of the hoops. It was an easy fake, and it should have been blocked. He frowned, wondering if it was time to get a new catcher. But that really wasn't his call.

Flying back toward Jacob, he looked to the other players a moment before gazing to the captain, eyebrows raised.

He shrugged one shoulder at Ben's look. When Malfoy flew between them, he watched until he caught the boy's grey eyes.

But it wasn't as though he could chastise him - he was looking. "You want to try keeping for a bit?" he called over to Ben. Maybe switching it up would shake up their keeper a little, see if that couldn't bring the performance up a bit.

Ben nodded to Jacob and flew off to take over the keeping position, sending the current holder away with a rather disgruntled expression on their face. Hunkering down over his broom, he watched the other players and, more importantly, the Quaffle. He didn't know that he was any good at keeping, but if he was going to have a go at it, it may as well be a bloody good go.

Jacob glanced to the keeper before tossing the quaffle in that direction. The catch was fine, but the flying was sloppy.

Maybe they'd need to work on flying drills, and he rolled his eyes at that. But maybe they were drunk.

He snorted at his thoughts and watched as the quaffle sailed toward the goal before he shifted his attention to Malfoy since he was diving.

Had he seen the snitch? He waited, but apparently not. Sigh.

Ben trained his eyes on the quaffle as it hurtled toward him, stopping it relatively easily; he hadn't even had to make any kind of fancy flying maneuvers to catch the ball. Frowning, he tossed the ball toward Flint with a shrug.

Hazel eyes watched as Malfoy dove and then gave up. Well, this was bloody lovely, wasn't it?

He caught it and flew around a bit, mostly to see what everyone else was up to before he shot toward the goal, pulling up short to pitch the quaffle hard toward the left ring, to see what Ben's reflexes were like.

He didn't look away, but he flick his eyes to keep the others in his peripheral as well as he could, to try to keep an eye on them, as it were.

Ben shot out toward the quaffle as it moved, hands outstretched. He didn't think he could actually catch the bloody thing but if he could just knock it off course enough... His fingertips grazed the ball as it whizzed past, and he watched with a small amount of satisfaction as it hit the outside of the ring instead of going straight in. Still not as well executed as he might have liked, but if this were a real game, they wouldn't be down ten points. He was calling it good.

Hazel eyes flashed as he retrieved the quaffle, launching it back at Jacob.

Jacob was starting to wonder if maybe they should switch things up a bit, or just ... rearrange things. Maybe he'd talk to them. See if anyone wanted to try swapping off permanently.

His thoughts were distracted by Malfoy calling out that he'd caught the snitch.

"Good," Jacob called back to him. "Come up here and play with the quaffle."

"I hope you mean that literally, Flint," Malfoy drawled as he drew even with the captain. Though he was sure Jacob did, and he wasn't sure why. "Are we swapping chasers?" he inquired.

"Something like that," Jacob replied as he tossed the quaffle toward Malfoy before pointing him toward the goal.

Scorpius rolled his eyes. He was a seeker for a reason, after all ... but he flew on anyway. If Jacob wanted to play them in other positions, that was fine.

Launching the quaffle toward the goal post, he wondered how easy a save that was.

Ben did a bit of a roll and zipped over to catch the Quaffle.

"Did you want me to keep this up or are we going to swap again?" he called over to Jacob.

Arms crossed over his chest once he'd launched the ball back. He could play this position, he supposed, he just ... didn't want to if he didn't have to.

"Yeah, come on back out," he called before sending their keeper back into play. "We could probably call it. Malfoy managed to find the snitch ..."

And there'd be other practices. "Use the rest of the time to just... screw around. Work on your techniques. Fun things like that."

Scorpius rolled his eyes, but reminded himself he only had to put up with Jacob's particular brand of captaining for the rest of the year. Then, mercifully, someone else would take over.

Maybe even him.

Ben chortled a little; use the time to screw around and work on his techniques? He didn't think Jacob would appreciate his sense of humour, though, so he kept that particular gem in. Flying over, he nodded, though he still had a decently bemused expression on his face.

"Got any plans for your last year, Flint?" he called over as he neared.

He, personally, would be satisfied with coasting. Somehow he didn't think Jacob was for that.

"He just wants to pass it," Scorpius called to Ben. Nevermind the question wasn't directed at him; Jacob occasionally needed to be reminded he wasn't the be-all end-all of things just because he was the quidditch captain.

"Depends on the kind of plans you mean," he said, shooting a glance toward Malfoy but otherwise ignoring him. That, he found, worked best for Scorpius. Ignore him, and he'd go away.

"Plans for the team? I plan to win. Plans for homework? Do as little as possible. Plans for after school? Do nothing for as long as I can 'til my dad kicks me into doing something with my life." He grinned. "What about you?"

What did he plan to do? Ben hadn't really thought about it. Well, beyond spreading rumours.

"Dunno," he admitted with a slight shrug, "Thought I might see what kind of trouble I can kick up this year. Seeing as how it's my last and all. As for after school ... I hadn't really gotten that far."

His dad kind of wanted him to go into the family business, but Ben wasn't all that clear on what that entailed. Only that he'd heard it mentioned a couple of times now in a decently ominous fashion.

"Yeah, well, don't kick up any trouble that lands you in detention during practices," Jacob said before reflexively ducking a bludger that was whizzing toward them.

He glanced in the direction it had come from and rolled his eyes when he saw Malfoy with a beater's bat. Well, he had said for them to screw around, hadn't he?

"Git," he muttered before he rolled his shoulders and straightened.

"I'm sure I can keep it to a dull roar," he replied with a grin as he dodged the bludger his own self, "While we're on the subject, did you hear the Dovers girl's been making out with every Tom, Dick and Harry she can after classes? I didn't even know she was that easy..."

He wondered if Flint would care or if it'd just be tossed back at him. But hey, he had to start somewhere, didn't he? Quidditch practice seemed like an all right place. Especially since all they seemed to be doing just then was watching Malfoy play with his bat.

Scorpius smirked, wondering how many times he could get away with swatting the bludger toward them before Jacob went off on him.

Maybe he'd find out.

"Am I supposed to care?" Jacob asked Ben, flicking his eyes toward the boy curiously. "I mean, is there a special reason you're sharing this? Just put her up on the list of girls that put out," he smirked, then shrugged his shoulders.

He wasn't particularly interested in easy girls himself; if they weren't a bit of a challenge, they weren't any fun.

"If you hit that back this way, Malfoy, I will ban you from the next game," Jacob threatened as he watched Malfoy aiming his bat at the bludger.

He grinned a bit and leaned back on his broom.

"Just thought I'd mention," he replied, "Spread the word, as it were."

He wondered who else he could tell and what kind of damage control Eline might try. Well, that's what she got for being an irritating upstart 'puff and trying to win an argument about him.

Hazel eyes glanced to Scorpius and he smirked.

"Best listen to him, Malfoy," he pointed out, "Unless you want to get stuck cleaning the balls or something."

Intentional wording? Perhaps.

"Malfoy's not good enough to clean my balls," Jacob said with a slight grin. He was vaguely curious about Ben's apparently random desire to spread the word about an easy girl - like there weren't enough of them around - but he let it go.

Maybe he fancied her.

Shrugging to himself, he started to spiral downward, intending to head in, considering practice more or less done. Maybe he'd write up some drills or some practice ideas later.

... yeah, right.
