Summary:
Reading some of the journal entries lately had finally driven a point home for James -- he was slacking off.
And not just the normal slacking off that he did anyway. This was slacking off from the most important duty of attempting to be Hogwarts' numero uno prankster. When he slacked off from that, it meant terminal laziness had set in. It was always sort of like this at the beginning month of term, though. James was naturally inclined toward laziness, so when there was nothing special catching his interest and turning him into the obnoxious kid with far too much time on his hands..
"I've doomed us all!" he declared abruptly to the common room at large, throwing one arm over his face and slumping over the arm of his chair dramatically. "I can't live with myself anymore!"
He'd allowed everyone to think they were safe. They wouldn't be on their toes anymore! He'd spread the plague of laziness to everyone!
