it's time for me to go now, i've done more harm than good
Aliste began writing the final draft of his will upon deciding to leave the Gryphon Knights to teach in Balamb Garden. He has guarded the contents of this draft and its predecessors since learning of his illness. During his tenure as the mounting combat teaching assistant, Aliste has made a few minor adjustments. It reads: I, Aliste Rosenheim of Alexandria, Templar, former Captain of Alexandria's Gryphon Knights, now instructor at Balamb Garden SeeD Academy, of sound mental health and contractual capacity, do make and declare my last will and testament as follows: The last letter in each word of "sound mental health" ends with a blotch of ink as his pen paused after the word was written. Aliste hesitated each time before continuing, naming this to be his last and only and revoking all previously written wills. After naming and appointing his lawyer, a trusted acquaintance who still resides in Alexandria, and Beowulf Cadmus as the Executors of the will, it begins listing the distribution of his property. To my dearest friend, to my captain, my brother whether or not he still considers me such, Beowulf Cadmus: I hereby bequeath my sword, my armour and shield. The following item had a place in a previous version of the will from three years ago. It was removed after the Alexandrian War and added in again after his arrival in Balamb. To Lady Reis Duelar, the kindest woman I know, I give the last and only remaining properties of my mother, Renata Amelia Rosenheim née Bainard: an opal necklace and a handkerchief (that worry not! is clean) monogrammed with an "R." In addition, I give any photograph of mine that features her or Beowulf Cadmus. He left all his books to Balamb Garden SeeD Academy, save for his diaries and journals that should be burned without being opened. He gave no reason for the action; but know that said journals contain many of his thoughts and regrets, unsent letters and unfulfilled dreams, and since his diagnosis. I give my sweet rose of may, Beatrix - in addition to all my love - my home in Alexandria and all contents within, to be hers and her heirs for ever. Also, I give to her all remaining possessions that I hold here in Balamb and in Alexandria. Aliste named several people to receive a sum (Not a significant amount as the Templar/instructor never had much money to his name) of gil, including Ramza Lugria, Zalbaag Beoulve, Beatrix, Cid Kramer, a few knights from Alexandria and an instructor or two he befriended in Balamb, and the couple Beowulf Cadmus and Reis Duelar who were given the highest sum. He left nothing for the Celebrant Bremondt. I was raised in Raza House and while at times, they did not abstain from cruelty, I still owe them some of my first instruction and the good health I once had. For that, I give them what money of mine should remain after paying taxes and debts and after other named benefactors receive their share to be equally divided over the course of fifteen years. In the past, he would have requested Reis Duelar to Send him but removed the specification since Beowulf's excommunication. He considered asking her to "do the honours" but ultimately decided against speaking of his death and afterlife while in Balamb. Instead, was this: I request my body buried with as little expense or ceremony as may be. The will was signed, sealed and notarized in the presence of two witnesses - distant acquaintances, non-Alexandrians - on the day following his thirtieth birthday, the twelfth of November in the year two thousand twelve, in a local notary office in Balamb Town. In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal, this twelfth day of November, in the year two thousand twelve. Left on his desk, unmentioned in his will, is an envelope he intended to send seventh year cadet Alona Roe Gaskin before his passing. Enclosed is the same stack of money she once left him and a note: - A. |
