“Ah, Lisa, yeah,” Eleanor smirked. No surprise that the lovely barmaid had caught Mr. Shingleton’s attention. He did have a fondness for young women, didn’t he? “She is so sweet, but she will chew you up and spit you out if you cross her in any way.”
While Mr. Shingleton opened the bottle, she got two wine glasses from the cupboard. His compliment had made her smile. She doubted many would see it as a compliment, but there was something in his tone of voice and in the familiarity of the words that just made her feel… good. She paused for a moment while she considered his question. “I do,” she finally said, putting down the glasses and taking the bottle from him. “I mean, I’m not here of my own choice, but it’s not a bad place. I like the job I got here, the people are nice, the food is good, the weather is nice, it’s… nice here. Though I’ve only been here a couple of weeks, so it’s all still new, you know?” She glanced up at him as she poured each of them a glass. “How about you?”
