::Journal Prompts::
In previous games, I've noted a tendency (and been guilty of it!) to start a character's journal with "Today I received my new journal." While this works, in a new game, it can be tiresome to read this type of entry over and over again. To help everyone with ideas for what to write about, under the cut tag is a list of ideas of things that your character can journal about. Using this is optional!
Once the game begins, each Friday, there will be a post created in this board that will provide information about global events happening in the weeks ahead, rumors and gossip, political issues, and various bits of information for your characters to also springboard off of.
Journal Prompts (Many of these can also be the basis for rp!)
A confession or unpopular opinion
Something you are worried or scared about
A play you have seen or book you have read (feel free to make one up!) and your thoughts about it
Your thoughts on a social/political issue (treatment of miners, child labor, arranged marriage, etc.)
Something you daydream about doing
A social call gone wrong
An interaction with someone not in your social class or usual circle of friends
A recent journey
Something you remember from your childhood
A relative you strongly dislike/love and why
Something that you've recently done that you're proud of
Your favorite part of the current season (or something you dislike about the current season)
A challenge or situation you have to overcome but haven't yet
A meal that was particularly good or particularly awful
A lesson you've failed to learn
The consequences of a recent action
A pet or animal that you own
Things you worried about in the past that never happened
The best compliment you've received
Plans for a duel
A gift you're intending to give
Someone who wronged you (and for extra credit, the revenge you intend to take)
Use a line of a song or poem and write about what it makes your character think of. (Okay to fictionalize a modernish poem, within reason, to do this.)
A piece of art that moves you
An upcoming or past festival or holiday
Write about one of the following words as it relates to you: Forgiveness, Vengeance, Faith, Honor, Charity, Redemption, Failure, Anger, Passion, Disappearance.
How has war impacted you? Does it?
Write about your personal interactions with faith and religion.
If you could have dinner with any character you haven't yet interacted with, who would it be?
If you could meet anyone, who would it be?
If you could change only one thing about your life, what would it be?
If you could go back in time and change one thing from your past, what would it be? Conversely, if you were able to go back in time and change one thing one of your parents did, what would it be?
What is something from your upbringing you think was unusual?
Who did you play with as a child? (if play was allowed)
Do you agree with arranged marriage? Why or why not?
Write a message to send in a bottle. (Bonus: actually post this into the IC comm as a message that you sent in a bottle. First other character to comment gets the message!)
What were the circumstances that led to your birth?
What was your favorite pastime as a child?
Write about a pastime or activity you truly enjoy--try to convince other readers to join you.
Write a recollection of a lost friendship or romance.
Write about your worst enemy.
Everyone goes through hard times. Write about one of the hard times of your life. Write about how you overcame the hard time (or didn’t).
Write about a minute detail of your average day.
Write about something that happened to you during your working hours.
Name one threat to your present way of life.
Tell about major storms/weather you and your family have survived. What season was the storm? How did the season affect how you managed? Was it unbearably hot or cold? Did your neighbors help you? Did you help your neighbors? How did the storm and its aftermath affect your life from then on?
Write about one past historical event that impacted your life or your family. Were you present at the event or did you learn about it secondhand? Where were you when you learned about it and how did it affect you?
Have you ever been robbed? What kind of robbery was it? How did it change your life (or did it have no lasting impact)?
How do you feel about smuggling and/or piracy? (This is a regular occurrence in Cornwall so feel free to have your character make up an incident that just happened as often as you like.)
