Jareth ([info]labyrinth_king) wrote in [info]mirage_rpg,
Jareth frowned thoughtfully, and then sighed deeply. His coffee arrived, and he took a deep drink of it to delay answering. The thing about this whole blunt approach was it seemed like once one truth came out, the rest wanted to follow. That wasn't acceptable, but he didn't see how he could get out of it. Not if he was going to bargain in good faith, which had been the plan.

"I..." Maybe he could still get away with only telling part. "I wanted to retire. Yes, I'm immortal. But even immortals get bored of doing the same thing. He was going to take over, and I would go to Earth." All of which was true, although not complete. But it was more than he had considered telling her in the past, so it had to count for something.

"You gave me an opening, that's why I chose Toby. You believed in me, and it gave me the power to act. And your family is..." A long pause, "Rather remarkable." Also true. And she the most remarkable of all, but that he didn't think he would ever tell her. "And the King of the Underground must be worthy." Probably there were orphans that were worthy, but without a window into the real world, he would never find them.

"So, does that explain anything?" He raised an eyebrow, hoping it did. There was more, but he would vastly prefer not to go into that. "Perhaps it doesn't excuse anything, but at least you know."
