Entry tags:complete, day 32, marcus cole, nymphadora tonks

WHO: Marcus and Tonks
WHAT: Oh, who knows. Some trying to leave the Planet, some making out, some embarassment on Tonks' part.
WHEN: Day 32, early afternoon
WHERE: The cafe to start
WARNINGS: PG-13 or so
STATUS: Complete

It was probably a good thing for the former Potions Master that his path had not crossed Tonks'. That would be a most unhealthy thing. Of course, she was an Auror, and that meant she had to act with a certain degree of ethics. But, on the other, in extreme circumstances all Aurors could be tested, and could be convinced to use an Unforgivable. When it was that or death, or the death of a loved one, sometimes there wasn't any real choice. Tonks herself had never used one, being relatively young and fairly inexperienced, but she was starting to think that she could do just that, if she'd seen him.

He'd stayed out of her way, though, or perhaps their paths simply hadn't crossed. Nor had she seen Marcus in awhile, which was also, in her opinion, all to the good. What would he think now that he knew her horrible first name? So, she hadn't consciously been avoiding him, but the effect had been the same. She was already starting to miss him, however, and it really hadn't been all that long. No doubt, she had a strong desire to be around the man who had recently become her lover.

Maybe she would face her embarassment and go find him later. First, though, it was about time for lunch, and a little past time, actually. She headed to the cafe, noting in passing it was a lovely day. She really should be doing something about getting off this Planet, and she knew it... but Lunch, and Marcus, could certainly come first as far as she was concerned. With that decided, she seated herself and waited for a golem to come take her order.

Marcus had been having a fairly good time since the planet had changed itself into a lakeside resort. The hike he had been obliged to take had been lovely, and he had spent the next day wandering by the lake. If he had any complaint, it was that he had not seen Tonks at all since the change. To be honest, he hadn't seen her since the snowball fight back in the winter wonderland. Despite his efforts to track her down after her conflict with Snape and subsequent flight, she had proven untraceable. He was beginning to realize that he was going to have to begin to consider that she had disappeared, as so many others had done.

Pondering all of these matters, as well as how he was going to spend his day, he entered the cafeteria to get some lunch. Finding a seat by the window, he looked ahead, and was pleasantly surprised to see Tonks seated facing him several tables away. Blinking to make sure, he immediately got up and wandered over to her table.

"Fancy meeting you here. So you eat, too, do you? We have so much in common! Mind if I sit down?"

It was really almost as if he thoughts had summoned him. The dark-haired Ranger walked into the room, and the oddest sort of emotional thing happened to her. She felt like she was going to burst from the sudden joy she felt, and yet she also dreaded the inevitable time when he made fun of her for her horrid name. Visibly bracing herself, she looked up at him warily.

"Um... yeah, I eat now and then, just for a change of pace, you know." She bit nervously at her lower lip and eyed him for a moment. When he showed no inclination to immediately mock her, she relaxed just the slightest bit and even smiled a little. Still a bit anxious, she tucked a strand of her hair, typically bright pink, behind her ear.

"It's all yours..." she gestured generously at the chair opposite her, and was saved from any potential awkwardness by a golem arriving. "Oh... chicken, I want chicken today. And, of course, pumpkin juice. Mashed potatoes." The thing turned to Marcus, obviously waiting for his order as well.

Marcus could tell that Tonks was nervous about something. He found himself deeply concerned, and wanted desperately to find out what it was, but he didn't want to pry. If she felt like it, she would tell him. After all, what were intimate friends for? Returning her tentative smile, he took the seat she offered. Following her order, he placed an order of his own.

"I'll have a rib-eye steak that is actually made from chickpeas, wine that's actually pomegranate juice, and a large bowl of pickled herring that is actually a vegetable salad. And I want it all to taste like what it looks like, not what it's made of."

He'd decided it was time to start testing the planet. Just in little ways. He didn't want to cause a big reaction. He just wanted to see what it would do in certain situations. If it could really produce anything he wanted, what he had ordered would be no more difficult than the real thing. He wondered what would happen when he started to order things he didn't want.

"Well, that should be interesting. So, beautiful day, no? Have you had a good morning?"

An eyebrow rose as her lover ordered, and she smiled slightly. Interesting. She wished she'd thought of that. Intuitive thinking was normally something she did fairly well, but then, lately, she'd been a bit distracted. Once the golem left, she turned to face him. Her dark eyes were expectant, and a little wary.

"Yes, lovely... it's been alright, you know, nothing normal." She tilted her head at him and waited, but when he didn't say anything else, she finally spoke. "You know, if you're going to make fun of me, can you just do it already? I hate waiting for that sort of thing, you know." Her outburst was a bit sudden, but very sincere.

She had meant to be a bit more subtle than that, and she coughed and colored briefly before turning her gaze to the table. "Sorry. Just..." But she stopped, unsure what to say. She didn't know how to explain, anyway.

"I was thinking of exploring today, maybe trying to get off Mirage..." Her voice trailed off as she raised her eyes to his, realizing that if they were successful, they would be parted. She didn't like that thought at all. But the war back home did need to be fought, no matter what the consequences were.

Marcus blinked in confusion at Tonks' statement about being made fun of. Why would she say that? He would never! He was still turning that one over in his mind when she continued on with her thoughts about the day. Should he comment? He decided that he had better.

"I'm sorry. Back up. Why would I make fun of you? It honestly hadn't crossed my mind. It's not really my style."

The Ranger was genuinely concerned. He didn't want anything to come between them at this point in their relationship, and really wanted to get any possible misunderstandings cleared up. The business about exploring sounded really great, but this felt much more important. He leaned forward at the table to show his comment was in earnest.

Tonks sighed softly. She'd always hated behaving like the stereotypical 'crazy woman', and she was a little concerned that she may have done just that. But she hadn't meant to, it had just been a sincere outlet for her emotions. She looked up, about to speak, but the food arrived just then.

When the golem was finally gone, her dark eyes raised once more to meet his light blue ones. "It's just, you know my..." She laughed softly, realizing how stupid this was. "I'm going to bloody murder Snape, you know."

With those somewhat enigmatic statements, she started picking at her food. It was a distraction, but it wasn't working. Probably because she could still see him, and that would be enough to distract her anytime. She tried a tentative smile. "I didn't really mean to go mental on you like that."

Marcus sighed. He was relieved that Tonks had opened up to him, rather than keep what was bothering her inside until it came out in other ways. It was a trait he rather valued in a lover. Well, he had always thought he would, anyway. He was also glad it was something as simple as a rivalry with Snape. At least that he understood.

"What's Snape done now, then? You haven't always been this angry with him, although you've never spoken particularly well of him."

Marcus watched interestedly as his food arrived, but he was more interested in hearing what Tonks had to say. He figured that was a good sign. He hoped that his comments would encourage her to talk more about the nature of her grudge. He couldn't think of anything Snape had done that would upset her so much.

Tonks looked at him, clearly confused. Why was he asking? He must know, after all, her first name was so horrid that anyone would know that it would embarass her. She just stared at him blankly for a few moments before works seemed to want to come out of her once more.

"You can't be serious..." But he clearly was. She sighed softly. "Maybe you didn't hear what he called me?" Sudden hope was in her voice, though she could have sworn Snape had said it loudly enough that everyone within the snowball fight probably could have heard.

Still playing with her food, she kept looking at him. Any moment now, he was going to start poking fun at her. She just knew it. So she kept waiting for it to happen.

Marcus's mouth opened in a silent and hurriedly hidden gasp of sudden understanding. So that was it! Tonks had disappeared so suddenly and completely after the snowball fight because she had been embarrassed by what Snape had called her! And here Marcus had thought it was just her name! Shows what he knew. Whatever 'nymphadora' meant, it must be something really bad where Tonks and Snape came from. He reached over, around their food to take the hand of the woman he cared about so much.

"Darling, I had no idea. Honestly. Where I come from... Well, look, that's not important. I get it now. I know you must be furious with that ridiculous man, but I want you to know: it doesn't mean anything to me, and I would never hurt you like that. You know that."

He smiled at her earnestly, attempting to will his love for her to travel physically into her through the force of his eyes.

For a long moment, Tonks simply looked at Marcus as if he had grown another head. At first, she thought he must be mocking her, but it was obvious that he was far too sincere to be doing that. Eventually, her stare of disbelief because slightly lessened, though she was still a bit bemused.

"You had no idea that what, exactly?" She tilted her head to the side and continued to look at him. "You had no idea that my mother saddled me with the most ridiculous name in the world?" She paused and amended that. "In any world?"

She sighed and shook her head. "I didn't want you to find out. You can laugh now, I won't mind." And she'd try her best not to. She set her jaw determinedly and went to work on her food.

Marcus blinked. That was it? She didn't like her name? It wasn't some nasty insult or wizards' curse? He succeeded in his effort not to smile with relief, lest it be misconstrued as mocking laughter. Holding her hand tightly, he stroked the back of it with his thumb.

"Tonks, love, I won't laugh. What is there to laugh at? I'm sorry that you hate your name, but I don't think it's so ridiculous. When I heard Snape declaim it, I thought it was quite lovely, actually. I understand, of course, what you don't like about it, but it's really not that bad."

He risked a warm smile, hoping he was handling this the right way. He didn't want to drive her away by telling her she was an idiot for not liking her perfectly good name.

"Can't change what your mother has done. If it makes you feel better, I shall never use it, nor tell it to anyone."

Tonks watched him anxiously, waiting for him to start laughing. Any second, he was going to... his lips twitched, and she braced herself. She was not going to hex the man she loved, she told herself sternly. Not even anything like the Bat Bogey. No.

But he apparently got himself under control, and soon she was looking at him incredulously. "Excuse me? Lovely?" She looked at him as if he had grown not just a second head, but a third one as well. "It's stupid. Means Gift of the Nymphs." She wrinkled up her nose, but soon shook that to look at him.

"You really aren't going to laugh at me, are you?" She sighed softly. "I don't mind when dad calls me Dora, so that's alright, but I guess everyone knows now, anyway..." She looked glum and then shrugged. "I'll just have to take it out on Snape, as soon as I find wherever he's run off to." But she wasn't feeling nearly as bent on revenge, to be honest. She'd mostly been annoyed that Marcus had learned her humiliating name.

Marcus kept smiling, glad that his tactic seemed to be working. Tonks appeared to have accepted his word as truth, and didn't seem particularly upset at him for it. For a moment there, things had seemed a little tense, but she appeared to have relaxed.

"Well, you can have your way with Snape all you like. It's all right with me, but I don't think it's as big a deal as all that. I bet lots of the people who were at the snowball fight either didn't understand what he said or didn't care and have forgotten it already. And, yes, I do think it's lovely, in an old-fashioned kind of way. The problem, of course, is that you're not partcularly old-fashioned, are you?"

Marcus smiled and released Tonks' hand, going back to his food. The way he saw it, the sooner he was done his lunch, the sooner he could apply himself to comforting her.

That mental image had her wrinkling up her nose at him. "Sorry, but he's really not my type." She grinned and him and even winked, letting him know that she was willing to let this be over. More than willing, actually, since she'd apparently over reacted. She didn't like doing that much.

"You're probably right, though." She spoke thoughtfully as she continued to eat her food. "I mean, there was a lot of noise. Probably no one even heard." Which was just fine with her. Marcus had heard, but he didn't seem to care. "Well, names like this run in my family, you see. My mum is Andromeda, and my aunts are Narcissa and Bellatrix." And it went on from there with the crazy old names. "I guess I just wish I could be like the rest of the new generation... Harry and Ron and Angelina... nice, normal names."

Realizing that she'd been rambling, she shrugged and set down her fork. She'd eaten quite quickly, and was pretty much done. "But at least Tonks is distinctive, right? And my dad calls me Dora, which isn't so bad." Finished, she rested her chin on her hands and waited for him to be done as well.

Marcus smiled sincerely at the woman opposite him. She really was a charming, delightful, irresistable person, wasn't she? He was definitely going to have to kiss her as soon as this table wasn't between them, but not like he was going to have to kiss her as soon as they were alone. He laughed at her humourous misinterpretation of his comment.

"There, you see? You want to be the same as everyone else, but it's actually a blessing in disguise that makes you distinctive. Tonks is enough, though. I agree." He chewed the last of his odd food. "'Dora is nice. You must get on well with him, then, your father."

He had never really asked her much about her family or her background, he realized. All he knew was that she was a witch, and a magical police officer. It had been enough, but now he wanted to know more.

Tonks glanced outside and grinned. It really was a gorgeous day out, and she was fairly excited. She wanted to get outside. Now that she knew Marcus wasn't going to make fun of her for her horrid name, she suddenly had all sorts of new energy. Bouncing slightly in her seat, she waited for Marcus to be done.

"Can we go yet? I want to get outside. Tons of stuff to do, lots of looking around, or else we're never going to get off this place..." She smiled at him, trying not to bounce right out of her seat. "I'm stir crazy!" She laughingly admitted as she pushed her plate away.

"Well, I don't want to be exactly the same, or else I wouldn't have this..." She plucked up a strand of her brilliantly colored hair for his inspection, and then let it fall. "But I'll stick with Tonks, because there's standing out and there's standing out." She ran her fingers through her hair, waiting impatiently for him to be done. "Also, I want to kiss you, and there's plates and stuff in the way."

Marcus grinned at the wonderful, energetic woman opposite him.

"Funny. I was just thinking the exact same thing."

Pushing away his plate, he stood up and strode around the table to where Tonks was sitting. Bending down, he wrapped his arms around her torso and lay his lips gently but firmly upon hers. The connection he felt with her when they kissed was something he still could not believe. All of a sudden he was eager to get outside with her, and for other things too.

"Yes, let's go outside. Let's go off into the mountains, away from everyone else, somewhere where no one else will find us. I think that would be perfect.

Tonks watched as he stood up, wondering if... yes, he was. She grinned encouragingly at him, wrapped her arms around his shoulders, and kissed him back with energy and enthusiasm. Her fingers slid through his hair somewhat possessively, and smiled up at him when the embrace was broken.

"Alright, so let's go!" She bounced to her feet, stumbled, and fell against him. It was pretty standard, but she'd never enjoyed falling into someone quite as much as she enjoyed it with him. While she was there, she wrapped an arm around his waist and held him close as she tugged him toward the exit of the restaurant.

"So..." She coughed and looked at him with a raised eyebrow, but her smile and the rising color in her cheeks seemed to indicate she wasn't in any way upset with his words. "Mountains, huh?" She nodded enthusiastically. "Merlin, yes! Count me in!" She'd never done anything like what she suspected they were going to do, not outside anyway. It was very exciting.

Marcus laughed as Tonks embraced him after stumbling into him. Normally he didn't think it would be polite to bring attention to her clumsiness, but she seemed to be enjoying a little acknowledgement at the moment. The Ranger also thought it would be great fun to save her the trouble by lifting her up and carrying her away out of the cafeteria, but decided not to, for fear that it would make her feel like he thought she needed assistance.

"Excellent! Yes, let's go!"

Putting his arm around the witch's irresitably embraceable waist, Marcus strolled out of the dining hall and out into the sunny day. Having already been on one hike into the mountains, he had an idea about where they could start.

"So, I was on this trail, here, the other day, and I spied a side-path that might lead us to exactly the type of location we are looking for."

"Wait, hold on..." She stopped him as they exited the restaurant and stepped onto the soft grass outside. "You have to kiss me now, you know." She turned to face him, still holding him as she did so. "It's in the rules. You can't step outside without kissing me."

But she didn't wait for him to do so. Instead, she leaned in and kissed him herself. It was meant to be little more than a quick peck on the lips, but she felt herself getting pulled in to the embrace despite her intentions. Soon, she was kissing him with quite a bit of passion, considering they were outside and in public.

Finally, she pulled away, her breathing slightly quicker. She had enjoyed that quite a bit, and it was obvious from her heightened color and the slightly breathy quality of her voice. "There. Now, we can go." She rested her bright head on his shoulder for the first few steps as they began walking again.

Marcus, who had not been expecting the kiss, was nevertheless delighted. He was even more delighted when Tonks let herself linger. Eager as he was to find somewhere secluded to pursue their amourous entanglements, he enjoyed the activity too much to care whether anyone spotted them right there by the main building. He was also thrilled by the way the kiss seemed to excited Tonks. Her excitement definitely excited him.

"Well, now, that is a rule I can fully support. What's the full text, then?"

He put his arm around the witch as she lay her head on his shoulder. There was such an easy atmosphere of loving companionship. It felt absolutely wonderful. Marcus got the feeling that today he didn't really care if they learned anything that would help them get off the planet.

From her position with her head resting on his shoulder, she glanced up at him and flashed him a brilliant smile. She had made up the 'rule' on the spot, mostly just because she'd wanted to kiss him again. Still, it could be a lot of fun. There were a lot of things that could be made into 'rules' so that they had to kiss. And he hardly seemed to be minding.

"Oh, basically just kiss me at every opportunity, and we'll call it good, alright?" She nuzzled his shoulder briefly and then raised her head, though kept her arm around his waist affectionately.

The pair wandered off together towards the hills, Tonks following Marcus' lead to some extent. She didn't really know where he was going, and didn't much care. Now that she knew he wasn't going to make fun of her, she was eager to be around him as much as ever. Or probably even moreso.

"Kiss you at every opportunity. Check. I don't think that should be too difficult. Oh, wait!"

He bent down to kiss her.

"Almost lost an opportunity there."

Giving the lovely witch a squeeze, he set off into the mountains. Technically, if he took every opportunity to kiss her that would be all they would do, and they wouldn't get anywhere, which didn't sound so bad, but he was looking forward to finding somewhere secluded where they could do more than kiss.

It was interesting, going off exploring like this with Tonks. They had done it so many times that is was pleasantly familiar, but now their was an added twist. Altogether, it made things more fun, if anything. It was a lovely day, and everywhere Marcus turned he saw something beautiful.

Tonks nodded enthusiastically. "I have the same rules too, though. It's only fair. No reason you should have to do all the kissing." Anyway, the way she saw it, they both benefited from either one of them following the 'rules'. And the more kissing, the better. Or that's the way she looked at it anyway.

She stopped him again after not so many steps. "I don't want you to think I don't follow the rules..." She pressed her lips to his, squeezing him against herself briefly before releasing him. "Merlin, we're never going to get anywhere at this rate..." There was a distinct lack of worry about this fact in her voice, however.

Still, it was a fair point. If they wanted to get each other alone, and Tonks knew for a fact that she certainly did, they were going to have to stop kissing all the time. That wasn't an idea she exactly loved, but she figured it would be more than worth it later. So she stepped away from him with a smile. "Show me this place?"

Marcus gave Tonks a dazzling smile. He loved that they appeared to be thinking the same thoughts at the same time. He loved that she wanted to kiss him as much as he wanted to kiss her. He really just loved everything about her. Taking her hand, he led her up the mountain path.

"Perhaps the answer is for me to carry you. That way we can kiss whilst I walk."

Heading generally in the direction he had gone the other day, Marcus stopped at a stream, and turned to follow a nigh-undetectable path that wound along beside it, up a narrow ravine. Every so often, he stopped to embrace and kiss the woman with him. It really did feel amazingly good to have her body pressed against him.

Tonks' eyes, already bright, practically shone as he made his suggestion. Ignoring her own advice, she stopped him by moving in front of him and blocking his path. Once there, she wrapped her arms around him and kissed him once more with all the passion she had in her. Which, at the moment, was quite a lot.

When the smoldering kiss was over, she flashed him a smile. "I think that's a brilliant idea, really..." She kept her arms around his neck and gazed up at him with desire and adoration clear in her eyes.

She got the feeling they were close to the place he wanted to take her, but she was suddenly very interested in being carried. No one had ever really carried her before, and she wondered if it was a pleasant thing to have happen.

Marcus stopped and blinked at Tonks' request. Honestly, he didn't know whether he had expected her to like the idea, but now that she did, he was somewhat surprised, surprised but delighted. Grinning widely, he bent over slightly to put an arm behind her knees. Straightening up, he lifted her off the ground so she fell back to lay in his arms. Carrying her against him, he smiled down at her and began striding forward up the path.

"Well, I think this is lovely. Now the only challenge will be making sure I look ahead every once in a while, and not just into your beautiful eyes."

He meant it, too. It would be a real shame if he took a bad step, twisted his ankle, and dumped her abruptly into the creek. Also, he wanted to look out for a good spot to stop.

It was an odd sort of feeling, she discovered, to be carried in the strong Ranger's arms. At first, she felt sort of uncomfortable, not really liking the idea of being out of her own control. But then, she got quite used to it, and in just about half a minute or so, she was nuzzling against his neck with her lips, just as comfortable there as she would have been walking on the ground.

In truth, it was because she trusted Marcus. That made all the difference. After a moment, she raised her head and smiled at him. "Look away, love." She suddenly grinned mischieviously. "Or, you know, I could do this..." It seemed a perfect opportunity, so she kissed him once more.

But she was a practical being, and she understood that he did have to see where they were going. Besides, it would be faster getting there if he looked every now and then, and then they could kiss all they wanted. And, Tonks was starting to suspect, quite a bit more.

Marcus grinned and returned every one of Tonks' kisses, happy to go a little slower if it meant fun like that. After not too long, slowly but surely, he reached the spot he had had in mind. At the end of the narrow ravine, a thin waterfall trickled over a stone lip. Almost imperceptible, was a grotto that lay behind the stream. Nor was that the end. Long ago, when imaginary seas had covered this imaginary land, raging waves had pounded a hole in this ridge, and the path led out the other side, into a secret woodland grove. There, tucked away on the mountainside, Marcus knelt and lay his lady love down on the sun-shaded earth.

"Well, here we are."

Marcus reclined himself beside her.

It took a bit longer, but they had gotten there. In Tonks' mind, that's all that mattered. And it was a lovely place they'd come to, well worth the walk. Well.. okay, she hadn't exactly done much walking, persay, but the idea was the same. It was worth the trip. She smiled at her lover. "Marcus, it's lovely."

As she was set down, she reached for him before he could even fully recline beside her. Rolling onto her side, she wrapped her arms around him, and thrust one of her own legs between his. "Oh no... we're all alone now. I don't know who's going to protect you from me..."

With that, she kissed him once more. And she didn't hold back this time, not even a little. She felt like she was on fire, burning for him, but in a pleasant sort of way somehow. This intensity of feeling was new for her, and she wanted to explore it.

Marcus, who had his hand on Tonks before he had finished reclining, found himself excited by the way the woman beside him reached out for him at the same time. He smiled, excited by her obviously sincere interest in touching him, feeling his body. Now that he had allowed himself to permit this form of expression with this woman, the woman he loved, it seemed the most natural thing in the world. As Tonks thrust her leg between his, he let his arms and legs lead him as they twined themselves around her, his body yearning to join with her, or at least press itself as close against her as physically possible.

As she kissed him, he returned her passion, trading off control of the embrace, like a game, with her. His hands roamed over her body, trying to touch every part of her, even as he instinctively stopped and explored at the slightest encouraging sound.

"I really think you should be more worried about who is going to protect you from me..."

Tonks hadn't been a virgin when her and Marcus had first made love. But she honestly hadn't had much interest in exploring sexually. Her work had seemed more important, so while she'd dallied a bit, she'd never seen the great allure of it. Until she'd met Marcus. Then, everything had changed.

She made a sound rather like a cat purring happily as he entangled his body with hers. She did tend to throw herself enthusiastically into anything she did, and this was clearly no exception. Just as his hands explored, so did hers. Everything was still new enough that she still felt like she had a lot to learn about him.

"Oh, I'm afraid I make a pretty pathetic damsel in distress..." She smiled at him while her hands struggled to undo his belt. "I guess neither of us is going to be protected from the other, what a shame!"

Marcus smiled down at the vivacious witch purring beneath him. He had met attractive women before, Valen knew, but something about Tonks drove him absolutely mad. He shifted his hips to give her better access to his belt buckle, somewhat worried that it would burst if she didn't loosen it soon.

"What a shame indeed. I don't think I'll spend any time regretting it now, however. Later we can go over everything that we did wrong and everything that we did right, in intricate detail."

As he spoke he interrupted himself with a continuous string of kisses. Being with Tonks was a continuous revelation to him, and he found he was no less interested in exploring the way he made her feel than the way she made him feel.
