Day 27 Arrival
Who: Sarah Jane and Violet Baudelaire
When: Day 27, mid-morning
What: Arrival
Rating: PG
Status: Complete
The morning had begun in a rather ordinary fashion. At least, ordinary for one Sarah Jane Smith. She'd woken up earlier than Luke, and had readied herself for the day. Then, she'd bounded up to the attic, ignoring the slight strain in her knees as she did so, to check with Mr. Smith for any signs of alien activity in the area. A chime from the doorbell brought her back down the stairs a little while later, and she'd visited with Maria and Clyde while Luke finished getting ready for school. Then, she'd waved them all off, with a promise to ring should anything "interesting" happen during the day. And then, she'd headed out herself, as she had a few local errands to run before the day began in earnest.
She'd gotten as far as the corner of Bannerman Road when she felt an odd, nauseous feeling wash over her. Just for an instant, and then it was gone, leaving her to wonder what it had been. Perhaps she hadn't cooked the eggs long enough that morning. Eggs weren't exactly a specialty of hers, so perhaps she'd left them too runny for her own stomach's liking. Then, she blinked, as she realized that she was no longer standing on the curb of Bannerman Road, but calf-deep in snow. Instantly she hunched over and wrapped her arms around herself, as the cold found its way through her only thinly lined leather jacket and jeans. She spied a building of some sort not too far off, and headed toward it, figuring that shelter of some sort would be better than none at all. Sarah had no idea where she was, and, while it didn't immediately worry her, the idea that someone had transmatted her off the street like that did give her pause. Mr. Smith had found no trace of alien activity that morning, and he should have been able to detect a ship with a transmat. Those things leaked energy, at least from what she remembered.
As she walked, Sarah rooted around in her purse, trying to find her mobile phone. This definitely counted as "interesting," and she was determined to let Luke know what had happened, if she could. She had no idea where she was, whether she was on Earth, or somewhere else entirely, and wasn't entirely sure her mobile would get a signal or be in range of any towers. As she flipped it open, her heart sank. No signal whatsoever. She wasn't exactly surprised, but it would have been comforting to just send a quick message.
Up ahead of her, Sarah spotted a figure coming out of the building she was approaching. She debated for a moment on whether or not to call out to the person, or to hide and figure things out on her own. She decided to be open and approach the person. After all, nothing ventured, nothing gained, right? And perhaps the person could tell her what was going on. She started jogging toward the figure. "Hello!" she called as she closed the distance between them. "I'm sorry, I seem to be a bit lost. Could you help me?"
