Another morning in this gods-forsaken place. Xena sighed as she sat up on her pallet. Her room looked like any number of the inn's she'd stayed in on her travels. It wasn't exactly luxury, but it beat sleeping in a bedroll on the hard ground in a noisy tent. She rubbed her neck and stood up. She stepped into her bathroom and shed her undergarments before stepping into the shower. She had learned that the falling water wasn't magic, it was some sort of new technology that involved pipes and pumps.
A few days after discovering the water that fell and drained away in a hole in the tiled ground, she discovered that she could control the temperature of the water. Today, she turned the knob so that it would be warm, but not too hot. She washed herself with the soap and shampoo she'd also had to learn about for herself. And then she exited the shower and pulled on a clean set of garments. Her armor wasn't really necessary, but it made her feel more comfortable for some reason. She pulled that on, as well.
It was still early, but she decided to get some food from the kitchen and do a little more exploring. She had discovered the library and game room the day before. All the technology baffled her, but she did like reading some of the things in the library. The encyclopedias were especially helpful. She left her room after pocketing her key, and headed out of the lodging unit toward the main building. She stopped in the kitchen and took an apple, a few slices of bread and some bacon and munched on it while she walked down the different halls, opening doors and peering inside.
She discovered the ballroom and exercise room, but neither interested her and she moved on. She came upon the foyer next and found her eye drawn to a blinking light in a box of keys. A golem had met her and given her own key to her on her first day here, but she didn't know why the box was blinking now. She approached it and looked it over, wondering at the strange light and the shiny new key. She took it off the hook and it stopped blinking. She looked it over and saw the room number etched in it. It wasn't hers. Maybe it was for someone new. She nodded to herself and looked around.
No one was about, so she went looking. She exited the main building and stopped outside. She could see miles and miles of some sort of farm like place with a barn and lots and lots of dirt. She put her hand to her forhead to shield her eyes from the sun and studied the landscape for signs of life. She didn't see anything, and was about to give up when she saw a figure stand up. The figure was quite small and a long ways off. Of course. Xena squared her shoulders and began to march toward the figure.
As she grew closer and closer, she noticed the extreme color of the person's, woman's, hair. Xena had never seen anything like it and she stopped a few feet away and stared openly before she became aware of herself and shook her head. Her next observance was the wand trained on her, pointing at her chest. Xena smirked. "You'll need a bigger sword than that, friend." Xena patted her own sword secured to her hip and walked forward a few more feet. "Just arrived, have you?"
