Playing in the Snow
Who: Illyana and Aragorn
When: Day 24, Late Morning
What: Out enjoying the wonderfully cold, snowy weather!
Where: Outside, near the edge of the woods
Rating: PG-13, just to keep it safe
Status: Complete as it's gonna get

Illyana ran outside, the largest grin possible on her face. The resort had changed again days ago, and changed into something she actually approved, and yet she hadn't been outside to enjoy it yet. Today, she was determined to spend as much time as possible out in the snow. She'd dressed comfortably for the weather, for her - corduroy slacks, fur-lined boots, a turtleneck, coat, mittens, and a hat. She'd seen other people from her window dressed in ski suits and parkas and all kinds of things. Clearly, they weren't used to winter.

Once outside, she spent a good ten minutes running around through the snow, enjoying the feel of moving through it again. She ended up near the woods where she'd first arrived, and an idea came to her. She hadn't done it since she was about five, and she felt the overwhelming desire to do so again. She started rolling a giant ball of snow. It was slow going at first, but as it got larger, it actually became easier to do. When it was as tall as her waist, she stopped, regarding its placement near the woods critically. That would do. She then turned and started forming another ball. The snowman army would be reborn, even if she didn't have her big brother Piotr to help her build it.

The Ranger was restless.Things just seemed to not be going well. All these confusing thoughts swam in his head.He had also been avoiding Legolas though he had the feeling the Elf and his friend had been doing the same.Funny how he thought he knew something but now he was not so sure.

Aragorn had spent all night watching this strange resort change once more and watched the snow fall. He sat just watching and with every falling flake, Aragorn was getting more and more restless.Ever since being rescued he kept himself locked up.And now as the sun rose, Aragorn jumped up suddenly from his seat, focused on some warmer clothing, he got dressed. Then he was heading out in the snow. He enjoyed the fresh air.

Soon he found himself near the woods and watching a young girl forming balls with the snow on the ground. For a small moment his mind drifted back to a time where he trudged with the fellowship through snow covered mountains, but before he could think too much on it he shook his head and smiled, clearing his throat before he spoke.

"Planning on taking over the planet with men of snow?"He asked with a gentle teasing and even laughter in his deep voice.

Illyana was working on her third snowman when she heard the voice. She turned and grinned at the stranger. "Perhaps," she said. "I far prefer my snowmen to the golems that lurk everywhere. Although even if I make mine move the way the golems do, the heat in the buildings will melt them all away."

The man was older than she was, perhaps as old as Wolverine looked. Certainly not as old as Elminster. He didn't come off as threatening in any way, which pleased Illyana immensely. The evil she'd felt had long since died down, but she couldn't afford to be less than cautious. Illyana heaved the smaller snowball she'd been rolling onto the top of the current snowman-in-progress, and patted it on carefully. Then, she turned to the man and offered her hand. "Illyana Rasputin, pleased to meet you, sir."

Aragorn watched the younger woman with a mild expression of amusement and curiosity. But she seemed content in playing in the snow and he also laughed softly at her statement. "I guess I could see why you would.'

When she offered him her hand, Aragorn didn't even flinch at the cold hand that shook his own. It didn't even phase him. "Aragorn." He said firmly leaving off the rest, which shocked him slightly. He had no idea what it meant to say it so loosely. "Do you care for some help?"

Aragorn. Interesting name. Elminster the Mage had only had one name as well. Perhaps this man was some sort of mage as well? "It's nice to meet you, Aragorn," she said. "And yes, I'd love some help." Illyana turned back to the snowmen. "Back home, my brother Piotr used to help me with the snowmen. I'm not used to doing it myself."

She crouched down to begin gathering snow for another ball. "Does it snow like this where you're from?" she asked as she started rolling. "You don't seem that phased by the cold." That was something that surprised Illyana. Most people she'd met didn't like the cold. Blair had made that quite clear to her. "I spent part of my childhood in Siberia," she said, keeping the conversation casual, "so the cold is in my blood, you might say."

She rolled her ball of snow around until she had another one that reached her hips. It was heavy, but not so heavy that she couldn't push it where she needed it to go. Her cheeks were pink by now, both from the cold and from the effort she was expending. She wiped her forehead with the back of her sleeve as she pushed the giant ball over to the other three. "Piotr could do this without breaking a sweat," she muttered.

The cold did not bother Aragorn at all. It never had. Though he was never one to indulge in such child play. A small flash went through his head, a memory, Boromir, playing with the Hobbits.. laughter, mirth. It was just a brief flash then it was gone, leaving Aragorn staring at the girl as she continued with her snowman army.

"I have never been bothered much by the cold. Though where I am from there is not much cold until you move toward the mountains. " Aragorn acknowledged as he moved to drop to his knees and began building the bottom part of a snowman. It wasn't long before his hair was slightly damp from sweat as he concentrated on rolling the cold snow. THe bottom was done and now it was time for the middle.

"Legolas would enjoy this.." Aragorn said almost to himself, yet.. considering it all. It was just a simple statement, though he did wonder for a moment where his friend was.

Illyana listened to his description of home. She frowned as she tried to think of places that matched his description. She could think of many places that were warm until you hit the mountains, thanks to geography lessons at school. But, looking over Aragorn again, she guessed that he wasn't from the United States. He might not be from her dimension at all, like Elminster.

"You're pretty good at this," she said, grinning at his first attempt at a snowman. "Not quite as good as my Piotr, but he had years of practice." She hefted a head onto her newest creation and stepped back to survey her newest soldier. He was a little lopsided, but that was nothing a little extra snow wouldn't fix.

She tilted her head to the side as she caught his words. "Legolas?" she asked. "Friend of yours from home?" She assumed that whoever he or she was, they were not trapped on the Planet as she and Aragorn were. She had yet to meet anyone, aside from Blair, who actually knew people from home who were trapped as well.

Aragorn rolled the snow, making a decent sized middle and lifted it to rest on the other, larger one he had made. Then it was the head which didn't take as long. Once the first of his was set up, he stood back to look at his work.

"I don't think I have ever done this before. Not that I can recall to be honest. This was more something the Hobbits would do or the Elf." Aragorn said softly.

He dropped down to begin to make another. "I was shocked to find him here already. The only one I know from Middle Earth. From my world. " Aragorn replied matter of factly as he started on another. He felt carefree and light hearted despite it all right now.

Elf? Hobbits? Illyana wasn't quite sure what Hobbits were, but she knew of elves, at least, her world's version of elves. She wondered if they were the same as elves in this Middle Earth place. She thought of Nightcrawler at home, whom Kitty had called the "Fuzzy Elf". She wondered if elves in Middle Earth were as jovial as Nightcrawler, or as suave.

"So your Hobbits and Elf are more used to having fun?" she asked as she started another snowman. "You should follow their example, then. It isn't good to be too serious all the time, trust me." She suppressed a shudder as Belasco's face floated into her mind's eye. She blinked, banishing him from her thoughts. Today was a day for fun. She turned back to Aragorn. "I'm not sure whether I should be happy for you that you have a friend here from home, or pity the both of you," she said. "There are times I wish someone I knew from home were here with me, but then I think of how selfish that is. I don't want my brother or my friends trapped like this."

She rolled her snowball across the ground, weaving around the already cleared paths from her earlier recruits. "What do you do on your world, aside from not building snowmen?"

Aragorn listened as he continued to build another snowman. This was not the Ranger you would find back on Middle Earth. The man who barely cracked smiles during the Dwarf's and Legolas' "fights." The man who barely cracked a smile when Boromir was "attacked" by the Hobbits. Perhaps this place was really starting to change him.He no longer had to be serious,or to keep his kind from vanishing. He no longer had to fight wars and armies of Orcs.

"They enjoyed... enjoy,"Aragorn corrected himself. "Things like this. Having fun, being carefree until things changed." He said, a hint of sadness, biterness, and longing in his voice. What he would not give to know that his friends are alive, that the mission was completed.

Thinking of that, Aragorn nodded, shrugging a bit. "While it's sad that he is here and I as well, at least we are not alone and we have someone who understands and knows what the other is going through. I think I would be far worse off if he was not here. As for me, what I did there? I was a Ranger,a King..." Why did all that sound so far off?Like it was almost a dream now?

"But enough about me.Tell me more about you..."He said changing the subject, not really sure more of what to say about himself. He clearly was not used to it.

Illyana paused in her snowman-rolling as Aragorn spoke. It would be nice to have someone around who understood what was going on, how she was feeling, and who could help her. Not for the first time since she'd arrived on the Planet, she wished her brother was around. Piotr would be able to help her, just by being there. Would she ever see him again?

Her thoughts were pulled back to the present as she processed the rest of Aragorn's statement. He was a king? She took another look at him. Not the first thing you'd think of when you thought of a king, but, then again, she wasn't exactly the first thing that came to mind when you said queen, and she technically was Queen of Limbo. Appearances, she knew better than anyone, could be deceiving. And a ranger as well. She wasn't exactly sure what being a ranger entailed in Aragorn's world, but he was someone with a lot of responsibilities, like herself. She smiled at him and leaned against her sphere of snow.

"Me?" she asked, blinking. She hadn't expected the conversation to turn quite so quickly. "I am many things where I come from," she said, trying to figure out how best to explain, and how much to explain. "I am a student, both of academics and of magic." There was no point in hiding it, not from someone who regularly spent time with elves and hobbits. "I am also a...guardian...of sorts. My classmates and I, we are in training to help protect people by using our gifts and magic." She left out the darker aspects of her personality. The only reason she'd told Clark was because he'd seen them firsthand. "My brother Piotr did this as well. I was going to work with him and help him when I finished school." She smiled at him. "If a ranger is anything like a guardian or warrior, then we have something in common."
