Snape busied himself in his laboratory, tending various cauldrons on the workbench and inspecting various jars on the shelves. He had not felt much like going out to the dining hall this evening, so he had bid the golems bring dinner to his rooms. As such, a half-drunk cup of pumpkin juice sat on the table beside a plate containing the greasy remnants of a roast chicken. He had heard voices outside, but could not imagine how anyone could choose to go out in the new snowy environment. Snape had been on Mirage long enough to know that the resort would change again if he waited a week or so. He couldn't imagine what he would have to go out for in that time.
Truth be told, his recent abduction and forced labour experiences had put him in a pensive and somewhat dour mood. (Yes, more dour than usual.) When he had arrived on Mirage, he had felt liberated from the daily dangers of double-agency as well as the dreary rote of the school day. He had imagined himself safe from obligation and responsibility, free to be his own master, to keep his own house, his own hours, his own company. Now, it was painfully clear he was not free at all. Evidently, this sentient planet by whom they had all been abducted cared little for their human feelings, if it could even be said to care at all. On the one hand it had "sat" idly by as a band of lawless ruffians abducted half the members of their elite club, while on the other hand it had sentenced other bands of its denizens, seemingly at random, to pointless activity, as if they were slaves to be played with, used up, and replaced once expired. He had not decided what to do about the whole situation.
