Who: Violet Baudelaire and The Doctor
What: Returning Things and Post Kidnapping Check In
When: Day 19
Where: Her Room
Rating: PG-13 for Olaf Being Spoken of/Kidnapping
Status: Complete

Violet had slept like a stone since her escape from Armand and she was still feeling crummy. But she had fished out her idea journal to focus on something besides dreams of the kidnapping and Count Olaf. "Quite strange" she observed, forgetting about the mysterious handprint on her throat for now,"There is that loose cord and all it needs is some fresh wires". She had no idea her screwdriver had rolled from her kit (now sitting atop the dresser) and had only figured out bits and pieces of recent events. "Guess I must have hit my head while looking for those wires?" she muses. But unlike 2 days before she was dressed like herself again as she sketched out the idea into her book,"But something is amiss, something had to trigger the dreams of Count Olaf!" she hissed.

Now she could not stop shaking but she threw herself back into the idea journal, it was keeping the worst of her feelings at bay for now. "Maybe tommorow I can brave the junkyard again?" she decided,"I have to unravel this puzzle somehow".

The day after his encounter with the vampire, the Doctor had stayed in the TARDIS. He couldn't quite face talking to Rose about it yet, especially considering the sexual sensations that had accompanied his bite. Instead, he had cleaned and dressed his wound before spending a couple of nights hiding in his library with a battered old copy of Great Expectations. It was only when he reached into his pocket and pulled out the young girl's misplaced screwdriver that he remembered that there were people who'd had a worse experience that him.

It seemed as though she was inventor of some kind, a scientific mind at least, and the thought of it made the Doctor perk up considerably. He dashed to the console room, picking up his own screwdriver and a couple of other gadgets before heading back to the resort. It wasn't too difficult to find the girl's room, the golems seemed to have an understanding of who he was trying to find and were happy to point him in the right direction. He came upon her room, and knocked on the door gently so as not to wake her if she was still sleeping.

Violet had dozed off when she heard the knock and she had moved the kit and idea book in the meantime. While she had been trying to fight off the intense dreams and way too vivid flashbacks maybe a break would do her some actual good. The voice from beheind the door was soft, somewhat shaky and yet very much belonging to a young woman. "Who is it?"

"It's the Doctor," he called back, and then realised that she definitely hadn't had the time to catch his name, and he didn't want her thinking he was a medical doctor there to check on her. "Err, you probably don't remember me atually, but I.. have your screwdriver, strangely enough!" he explained.

That did it so Violet opened the door,"I knew my screwdriver had a reason to vanish on me and I would be Violet Baudelaire, owner of that screwdriver". Her own kit was perched neatly atop one of the dressers along with 2 ongoing ideas and her idea journal. Outside of semi bloodshot eyes she looked like she was herself again, minus 2 ongoing puzzles.

"Hello, Violet Baudelaire, what an interesting surname!" he grinned, holding out a hand for her to shake. He then produced her screwdriver, passing it over to her.

"A reason to vanish?" he repeated, raising an eyebrow in curiosity. "Well, you dropped it the other day. How are you feeling?" he asked, not aware that Violet had very little recollection of the incident.

Violet's natural grace around adults came rushing back as she offered her own hand and accepted the screwdriver. "Beyond some bruises and quite a few weird dreams I seem to be in one piece, its like something happened but I can not place any of it" having forgotten about the handprint on her throat, currently covered by the neckline of her shirt. "To be truthful I figured I just hit my head" not knowing she had actually done just that mid reaction.

The Doctor nodded slowly, frowning a little as she explained her lack of memory. Perhaps it was for the best, after all, but he knew from personal experience that repressed memories had a nasty habit of dragging you down when you least needed them to.

"Oh, well, you'd had an allergic reaction by the look of it," he explained, deciding that a slight explanation would be the best option. "I don't know what triggered it unfortunately, I only arrived after it had taken effect," he went on.

"That was my other suspection to be truthful, found a few small traces of a rash on myself but nothing serious" Violet having used herself to unravel parts of the puzzle. "I'm an inventor so everything can be a huge science project for me, this just being another puzzle to unravel" she explained. Of course Violet has no idea what happened was behind her strange dreams as well.

"Yes, there was a boy there, Max... he healed you. He might be able to fill in the gaps better than I can, but I don't think you were given this reaction by accident," he explained. he didn't want to scare the girl, but living in such a relatively small community... it was for her own good in the long run. "There was a man there, a vampire," he explained, pointing to the bandage on his neck as evidence. "Like I say, you might be better seeking out this Max boy, I only came in at the last minute really. Just... be wary, I suppose!" he explained.

"So, you're an inventor? I knew you had to do something like that after I saw your kit the other day," he explained, keen to change the subject onto something more enjoyable. "I dabble a bit, myself. Here," he fished out his own sonic screwdriver for her to see. "This is one of mine. It's a sort of multi-purpose tool, a screwdriver like yours!"

Violet could only nod, more of the puzzle falling into place for her. "That is next on the list but I have a kit loaded with everything from parts I've found to my trusty tools" letting The Doctor in while she went to get the kit and idea book she keeps. Violet also forgot about the second journal she had been keeping to explain the dreams. "Compared to my trusty screwdriver yours must be higher end or you did a ton of work on it" not knowing he is also a Time Lord.

Projects were all over Violet's room and her ideas ran the map ranging from a small alarm system to her ongoing work on the small heater.

The Doctor couldn't help but smile at seeing a young girl so keen for science and technology; sometimes humans had a real knack of surprising him. It was their scientific discovery and forward thinking that endeared him almost as much as their art and design did. But then, he supposed inventing really was an art form.

"Yeah, well, it's a sonic screwdriver. It's my own design, saves me carrying about an entire toolbox when I've got it all in one!" he grinned.

Violet had gotten her gear kit which was her own version of a toolbox on a somewhat smaller scale. "Now that is orignal! A toolbox in one small piece of gear" her eyes regaining a little sparkle after recent events. She opened up her kit to reveal a small army's worth of tool along with bits of wires and things she's found along the way. "Been working on a few things on and off, its like this room knows I have to have a project going on" explains the broken heater that had been left.

"I admit I'm partial to getting the best ideas from things people toss"

"Yeah, it's good when you're in a tight spot. Can't be running about with a full tool-box, really!" he said with a shrug. In fact, it really was the only tool that the Doctor needed. His eyes lit up as Violet opened her kit, revealing that she was in fact a dedicated inventor.

"Oh, wow. That's brilliant!" he exclaimed without a hint of sarcasm. "You're quite something!"

"At one time I had 3 whole kits: a large scale toolbox and two mini versions" Violet was smiling more now. "But I just think you can fix any problem with whatever can be found, pulled myself out of several jams that way" the photo of her with Klaus and Sunny within sight. "Actually to be honest I figured the screwdrive fell out of my bag for a reason, like fate was playing her cards in all this"

"At least you manage to organise it all into kits. I just have tools and wires and bits and bobs all over the bloody place. I'm a bit of a hoarder, I suppose. Apparently I have a tool room, but it's... long since spread to everywhere and anywhere," he explained, forgetting that he hadn't mentioned the fact that his ship was with him and the tool room wasn't part of his accommodation at the resort.

"Well, you sound like my kinda person!" he said with a little laugh; he loved people that could figure out a way to save the day using any old junk that was lying around. It was fantastic!

"Really? And what reason was that?" he asked, a little curious by this sort of attitude.

"It just made more sense and well after one middle of the night hunt for a set of pliers it made more sense to set up kits" Violet admits. "But I think inventors are also horders since we see everything as future ideas and projects" her own room filled with bits of things she had found.

"I think you speak my language!" as she explained. "I am just open to the idea of fate and maybe my screwdriver was just one aspect of that and maybe I was kidnapped for a reason"

"Yeah, it would probably make more sense for me, as well. I suppose I'm just very easily distracted and tend to leave things where they lie!" he admitted; it was just his nature, verging on ADHD. "I'd agree with that, though. I've definitely got enough storage space, and you never know when something that seems useless is going to come in very handy indeed!" he said with a knowing nod.

"Yeah, sounds like it!" he agreed with a grin. "Well, that's very optimistic of you. I suppose if nothing else, we now both have someone to run to in an inventing emergency!" he suggested with a laugh.

"The most useless thing can trigger the best idea" Violet had to smile. "As for me I just blame too many middle of the night hunts for whatever tool I need and once was during a power outage while fixing a circuit breaker of all things" but it was just who she was as an inventor.

"But the fate thing after the last few days has made me think more than usual. My screwdriver might just be part of a bigger puzzle" forgetting her notebook with the Olaf dreams was in plain sight.

"True!" he agreed; he had so many bits and bobs lying about the TARDIS, but there were countless times that he'd been able to fix a problem just with hatever was in reach. "Yeah, that's sensible. I'd just stumble about in the dark, although... I suppose the sonic screwdriver is good for tight spots like that. maybe that's where my lazy approach to organising comes from!" he admitted, slightly amused.

He nodded slowly as she mentioned her screwdriver being a part of a bigger puzzle - it sounded like the young girl had even bigger problems that recovering from an allergic reaction. "Yeah? What puzzle's that?" he asked, glancing briefly at her journal, but forcing his eye back to her face before actually catching anything she had written there - he didn't want to be too nosy.

"I think we all have those moments, after one close call I tossed flashlights into all my kits" as Violet fished a small flashlight from the mini kit. "Been slowly rebuilding my main one and was actually on a parts hunt and things kinda went blank from there till about yesterday" she confessed.

"Ongoing puzzle of mine, weird dreams related to a weird mix of things" speaking of both the kidnapping and Count Olaf. "Been trying to unravel those via my other notebook but nothing seems to be falling into place like projects do".

"Yeah, it's probably a good idea. I have pockets that are bigger on the inside, so I usually have just about everything needed on my person," he explained, reaching into his pocket and pulling out a wind-up mouse. "Hmm. Bad example," he shrugged, placing it on top of her toolbox like a very strange gift.

He nodded thoughtfully as she mentioned her mix of dreams and so on; as a Time Lord, he very rarely had dreams so it was difficult for him to relate. He'd had flashback dreams after the Time War, but he wasn't sure that exactly compared. "Yeah, it's a lot harder to work out your own personal issues that it is to work out a new invention," he said, figuring he could at least sort of relate to that. It was how he lived his life.

"You are so much like me that I love it!" Violet seemed to be smiling a bit more. She pulled out the larger version of her kit,"Its like this place knew I needed tools and I found a fully stocked toolbox" as she got down an ongoing project.

"I have no idea what is behind my dreams and that scares me given recent weird" she confessed. "Its like I'm turning into my own science project to unravel my own mind"

"The slightly psychic rooms are something special," he agreed. "Luckily for me, I arrived with my ship... which is my home with all my belongings on board. I do wonder what the planet would do if I staged a rebellion and refused to leave the ship... but knowing me, I'd get bored of my strike after a few hours and be back out and about again!" he rambled on, finally getting to the point about his TARDIS.

"Ah, the mind is a very delicate thing, be careful you don't unravel too much... that way madness lies!" he warned, although he wasn't entirely sure what she would discover... in his own experience, it hadn't been a good thing.

"Anyway, I suppose I was really just dropping by to see if you were recovering all right from your reaction, but you seem to be doing quite well, mental anguish aside" he observed. "I would say that... Max would be your best bet in helping you unravel your dreams," he reminded her. "As for me, I'm glad I met you! When you're feeling better, you should come and see the ship - from the outside, it looks like a blue police box, shouldn't be hard to find!" he suggested. "I'm sure it would... interest a mind like yours," he assured her, deciding to leave the part about it being bigger on the inside as a surprise for her.

A smile escaped Violet, something that had been rare since the kidnapping. "I've been trying to unravel how the rooms know so much and its still an ongoing puzzle. But finding both projects and a fully stocked toolbox was beyond cool" she finally looked like herself again.

"Part of me is more scared of what lies underneath, maybe there is something more to my dreams than meets the eyes" she mused as she set an ongoing project atop the toolbox.

Violet made one decision right then,"You know what? I think its time to rejoin life and stop living in fear. Besides finding someone that loves science as much as I do is a pretty good reason". That was a sign Violet was on the road back, minus the weird dreams of course.
