Who: Sam Winchester and Max Evans
What: Sam arrives!
When: Day 18
Where: By the meadows
Rating: PG-13 for swearing
Status: Complete

Sam landed in the dirt, the wind knocked out of him. Damn but Jake could punch and his super strength wasn’t helping Sam. It took him a moment to pull himself together, struggling to sit up. Jake was coming towards him.

Sam lashed out with his foot, fighting back. If Jake thought he was going to just sit back and let him kill him, he was wrong. He lunged to his feet, getting ready to defend himself.

Jake punched him and he felt the bones in his upper arm break. Sam let out a yell, grabbing onto his wounded arm. The next hit from Jake had him back on the ground. This wasn’t going good. Sam only had visions and there was that one time he used telekinesis… Still, not much good against a guy with super strength.

Sam quickly scrambled to his feet, backing away from Jake towards a trough behind him. At the last moment, he jerked to the side. Jake’s hand got stuck and Sam went at him with kicks since his arm was broken. The last one sent Jake crashing through the wooden fence.

Walking over to the metal pipe Jake had dropped, Sam picked it up and turned. Jake was getting to his feet slowly. Sam clocked him with the pipe and Jake went down, out for good it seemed.

Sam paused. He had the pipe. Jake had tried to kill him. He was the last one left. He could get out, find Dean… Sam raised the pipe above his head. He’d killed demons before.

He hesitated. But Jake wasn’t a demon. Jake was just like him. Jake just wanted to live. And Sam didn’t really want to become a murderer or the leader for some demon army. He dropped the pipe back onto the ground.

Just then, he thought he heard someone call his name from far off. It sounded like Dean.

Sam headed in the direction the voice had come from, hoping it wouldn’t be some sort of trick.

Then Dean came into view with Bobby, both holding shotguns and flashlights.

His brother said his name and Sam stumbled towards them, smiling in utter relief. Finally. “Dean.”

Then Dean’s face changed into one of worry. “Sam, look out!” he yelled, starting to run towards him.

Sam felt someone grab onto his shoulder… and the scenery abruptly changed.

Sam held his left hand up to his eyes, blocking out bright sunlight. He was standing in the middle of what looked like a meadow. What the hell…?

He looked around him and saw nothing but mountains at first. No Dean, no Bobby, no buildings… Wait. He could see a few buildings in the distance.

This wasn’t like before. There’d been no smell of sulfur, no strange anything. One second Dean was yelling at him, the next… here, wherever here was.

“Dean?” he yelled out, looking around for his brother. “Dean! Bobby!”

No answer. “Shit,” Sam swore under his breath. “Not again.” Well. At least he wasn’t in hell… he hoped.

He figured his best bet was heading to the buildings and see if he could find out what was going on this time. Sam set out towards the buildings, confused, muddy, dirty, and with a broken arm.

Max Evans had grown up knowing he was different. Only he and his sister, Isabel, and their friend, Michael were of a kind…they were aliens, living on Earth, stranded here as embryos. His whole life was spent hiding who he was, even from his adoptive parents, whom he loved dearly. This kind of life prepares a person for pretty much any kind of situation. Max was even captured once by the FBI and tortured by a zealous agent for information…he was luckily freed by his friends and their identities once again covered up. Max endured. Never did he think, in his wildest imagination, that he would ever have to endure something so gut wrenching and vile as what Armand put him through. His soul would forever be scarred. The blood draining was almost turned around…his alien physiology healed extremely fast and though he was slightly weak, he was well enough to take a walk.

Max had taken four showers after he locked himself in his room last night…then he fell into a disturbing, nightmarish sleep. Before he set out on his walk today, he decided to take another shower to freshen up. He mentally wiped away everywhere the vampire had touched him and shampooed out the feel of unwanted fingers in his hair. After brushing his teeth and gargling, he dressed plainly in jeans, boots and a blue tee shirt.

He needed some fresh air and sunshine. Needed to breath…sunshine and breath…two things you’ll never enjoy again, Max thought sourly, as he stepped outside.

Max stopped as he heard a guy yelling, “Dean! Bobby!”. Jogging over to where this guy stood, Max could see he must be a new arrival…he had that startled/confused look. Max looked up at the guy…Max was 6’0”, but this guy was really tall. “Hey! Let me guess…not sure where you’re at?”, the alien boy offered his hand and smiled, “I’m Max. I have a story you’re not gonna believe”.

Sam watched the guy warily. He had no idea where he was and for all he knew, the Yellow Eyed Demon had just transported him somewhere else. But he hadn't killed Jake... and there was no way he was going to agree to lead some demon army.

Studying the guy's face, he said clearly, "Cristo."

Nothing happened.

Sam relaxed a little. Good. The guy didn't seem to be possessed. "Sorry about that, dude. I'd shake your hand but my arm's kind of broken. Sam Winchester." He paused for a moment. "Weird question, but are you 23?" Maybe this was another psychic kid. Sam wasn't sure what to assume.

The tall guy looked Max over and didn’t take his hand. He had a wild, suspicious look about him and then he looked Max in the eyes and said Cristo.

Max stepped back a bit and replied, “Noooo…Max, remember? I just said it…Max Evans”.

When the guy relaxed, it was a 100 percent change in his body language and the expression on his face. Knitting his brows, Max looked at Sam’s arm immediately, “It’s nice to meet you, Sam”, he smiled, “That’s definitely a weird question, but after what’s been going on around here, nothing is weird for me…and, nope…I’m only 16”.

Stepping closer to Sam, Max gently took the arm he was cradling, “May, I?”, he asked. Looking up at the taller boy, he took a deep breath and informed him, “If you are ready for a little more weirdness, I can heal this arm in about 1 minute…good as new”, he held up his right hand and wiggled his fingers, “I grew up on Earth, but I’m an alien…got some pretty impressive healing powers”, he shrugged, “You have a broken arm…figured you’d want the shortened story”. He looked at Sam’s arm again, “It doesn’t hurt. What do you say?”.

Okay, so he wasn't a psychic kid... but an alien? Sam had seen all sorts of supernatural things but he'd never seen an alien. The guy looked completely human too. Maybe he really was just some psychic kid with healing powers and was confused, made up a story to explain it?

Well, at least he wasn't a demon and he hadn't done anything to harm him so far. "Okay," he agreed, watching Max carefully.

"If you're an alien, then how did you get to Earth?" he asked, slightly curious.

Wrapping his hand around Sam’s arm, Max grinned at the skepticism and offered, “How about we heal you first and then you can ask me anything you want…cause, the fact that I’m an alien is the least of what I have to tell you”, he teased.

Taking a deep breath, Max closed his eyes for a moment and concentrated…soon a pale blue glow escaped from around the hand that was gripping Sam’s arm. When the young alien removed his hand, Sam’s arm was completely mended as if it had never been broken…the only tell-tale sign was a silver handprint on Sam’s arm. Looking at the print, Max soothed, “Oh, don’t worry about that…it’ll fade in about 24 hours”.

Sitting on a nearby log, he patted the area next to him, “You might want to sit down. First, I got to Earth in a ship. Myself and 4 others were abandoned in Roswell, New Mexico after the ship crashed…we were only embryos at the time. We were in suspension chambers until we were 6 years old and then wandered out into the desert where we were found by humans and adopted. That’s the short story. There’s plenty of time for questions and the longer version, because…well, the next surprise I have for you is this…you are not on Earth. You’ve been abducted by a sentient planet, just like all the people here, and it never intends to let us go home. Questions?”

When Max pulled his hand away, Sam rotated his arm carefully in a circle. "Wow." It was completely healed. Sam studied the silver handprint with slight interest before sitting on the log next to Max.

"Roswell?" He could not have heard that right. "Roswell? That was you?" Maybe there was some truth to this... Maybe. The guy could heal in a way Sam had never seen before. Wracking his brains, he couldn't remember ever coming across a creature that left a silver handprint behind after it healed something.

Then Max mentioned that the planet was sentient and Sam decided he was just crazy. He laughed. "Dude, yeah right. A sentient planet? You expect me to believe that? You being an alien sounds more believable and even that sounds crazy."

When Sam laughed at him, Max laughed right along, “I know how crazy it all sounds, Sam! Believe me! I freaked out when I arrived here…”, he looked at the other guy and smiled, “…I have to say that you are remarkably calm for someone who has been transported somewhere else”.

Tapping his lip, Max thought for a moment and placed his hand on the log they sat on, “Okay, Sam, first things first. First prove I’m an alien and then maybe you’ll believe me about the planet before the planet has to show you itself”. After a moment’s pause, the log they were sitting on seemed to change…rearranged itself right before their eyes…until the log was wooden no more but rubber instead. “There now, isn’t that more comfortable?”, he bounced a bit, “I can change the molecular structure of anything”, he bounced some more, “I can also project force fields…need a demonstration?”.

“When you’re ready, Sam, I’ll take you to a tablet you must read and a room that is already waiting for you”, Max grinned, “Yep…believe it or not”. He gave the other boy a light, friendly punch to the arm, “So tell me about yourself. What do you do? How is it you are so comfortable with being transported and people who can heal with a touch?”.

"Whoa," Sam said in shock, prodding the rubber log with a finger. "Wow. Okay, I'm impressed... and slightly more inclined to believe you. How did you get here? Do you know how I got here?"

When Max punched him in the arm lightly, he gave a little smile, remembering Jake had broken it by doing just that. Good thing this guy didn't have super strength... that Sam knew of anyway. "I'm... psychic," Sam admitted. If this guy was an alien and could heal people, maybe he wouldn't think Sam was crazy. "I see things before they happen. Once I moved a shelf without touching it when my brother was in trouble. My brother and I, we hunt down demons and things like that, things that harm people," Sam quickly added, not wanting Max to think he was going to try and kill him just because he was an alien. "I've seen a lot of weird shit."

Max laughed. It felt good to laugh after the nightmare he’d lived through just yesterday. He liked this guy, Sam, and understood why he found it all hard to believe. “Glad you’re impressed, ‘cause I’m fresh out of tricks”, he pointed to his head, “I don’t grow antennae or anything”.

Leaning forward on his knees, Max remembered, “I was with my girlfriend, Liz, at the diner where she works…I had just stepped into the men’s room to throw some water on my face because of the heatwave we’d been having. I bent over the sink to throw the water on my face and when I stood up, I was here…in the stables”, he grinned, “I wasn’t all cool like you…I freaked”.

Max sat up straight again and patted Sam on the shoulder, “I hate to be the messenger of doom, Sam, but you were taken by this planet the same way that I was and everyone else here was. There’s a tablet, like I said, that explains it all”.

When Sam said he was psychic, Max was impressed, but when he mentioned that he and his brother were demon hunters, he was riveted. “If you’ve seen weird shit, this is the place for you!”, he teased.

Clearing his throat, Max took on a more serious expression, “Hey, Sam…In your demon hunting, have you ever run up against any vampires?”

"I came from a place a demon had taken me and other psychic kids to kill each other off," Sam said in a dry tone. "He wanted the lone survivor to be the leader. I'm hoping this place won't be that bad." He shook his head slowly, glad to be out of that mess. "My brother came for me though... I saw him and he said 'Look out' and something took me here so I think it wasn't this planet. It had to have been a demon or something. There's no way a planet is sentient." Sam was being adamant about it. "I hope he's okay."

When Max asked about vampires, Sam didn't even look surprised. "Yeah, more than once."

Max’s jaw dropped. Just when you think you’ve got it bad, someone comes along who has had it worse, it seems. “This demon actually made you kill each other?”, Max asked in disbelief. He dropped his head and ran his fingers through his dark hair. Releasing a deep sigh, the alien boy looked up and noted, “Well, Sam, you’re still alive, so you must be a pretty strong psychic, right?”.

When Sam again refused to believe that the planet was sentient, Max held up his hands in surrender, “Okay”, he laughed, “I give up! I’ll quit trying to convince you that this planet brought you here and is sentient! You will find out soon enough on your own”, Max stood up, “Will you humor me, though? You will need a place to stay, right? There’s one waiting for you…”, he pointed back towards the main complex, “…and your natural curiosity should be enough to get you to read the tablet the planet requires all new arrivals to read”.

The fact that Sam had dealt with vampires more than once excited Max a great deal, “So, you know a lot about vampires then? How to find them? Overpower them? Protect yourself from them? Destroy them?”

Sam nodded solemnly. "Yep. I just got lucky. One of them had been there for months and had gotten stronger. She learned how to summon demons and was about to try and kill me with one when another guy snapped her neck. Then he tried to off me. It was crazy."

He looked skeptically at the main complex when Max pointed to it. "Tablet? Alright, I'll take a look."

Asking about vampires didn't surprise him but Max's sudden interest in them did. "Yeah, I know all those things," he admitted. "What, don't tell me that there are some here, dude," he said, mostly joking.

“C’mon, I’ll walk ya over”, Max offered”, leading the way towards the courtyard where the tablet stood. As they walked, he told Sam of his kidnapping, “Yeah, Unfortunately there’s at least one vampire here…I was kidnapped by him yesterday to use in some bizarre ritual”, Max shuddered, “He nearly drained me…luckily, we alien guys heal quickly”, he forced a grin. Max didn’t want to reveal the forced bonding he had to go through and the deep intimacy he suffered…how his soul was for loss of a better term, raped.

Entering the courtyard, Max pointed out the tablet, “There’s the tablet, everyone new’s supposed to read it and follow it. That’s the lobby door just behind it…we’ll find a key to your room there. Oh yeah, the planet has servants walking among us everywhere…golems made of wood, stone, clay. They interact with you and follow instructions, but they can’t talk”.

Max stood quietly beside the taller boy while he read the words on the tablet. He ran his hands through his hair and then stuffed them into the pockets of his jeans. Maybe he’d offer to take Sam to the main restaurant or the café for a bite to eat…if the guy just wanted to go take a shower and crash, well that would be cool, he’d understand…the guy had been through a lot in the past several hours.

Sam let out a long groan. He knew it was too good to be true. There was also some damn evil troublemaker everywhere he went. He ran a hand through his hair with a loud sigh. "Should have known," Sam muttered. Then he realized Max had said yesterday. The hunter studied him before he asked, "You okay?"

When Max mentioned golems, Sam raised an eyebrow. "Golems? Never ran into one of those before... I suppose that, at least, sounds plausible." Max pointed out the tablet and Sam's eyes skimmed over it. He was still for a moment, then looked at Max incredulously. "This looks like some sort of prank someone put up. No offense."

When asked if he was okay, Max shrugged and replied, “Physically fine and workin’ on the rest”. He wasn’t now and never had been a complainer…he’d somehow deal with the deep mental scaring that monster left behind. He definitely needed to see the Doctor…maybe he knew how to purge Armand from his soul, or at least how to lessen his affect.

Max laughed at Sam’s opinion of the tablet, “No offense taken, Sam!”, he held his hands up, “It’s not my tablet”. He rubbed his neck and stretched a bit, “I guess a bit of skepticism is a healthy thing, especially in your line of work”. Walking to the lobby door, Max opened it, “After you. Your key should be the one, over at the desk, blinking…we’d better grab it before a golem is summoned for you…hate to waste their time, y’know?”.

Hurrying over to the desk, Max snatched a blinking key from a cubby hole and tossed it to Sam, “Room # C111…wait until you check out your room, Sam. They form to what ever you want…anything you can imagine. I’m in A211 if you ever wanna hang out or need anything…”, he grinned, “…or need instant healing”. Sitting on the lobby counter, Max asked, “So, you hungry, Sam, or do you just want to go crash in your room for awhile?”

"I know how that feels," Sam replied sincerely, understanding all too well what being fine and not fine was like. He entered the lobby and glanced over at the desk, noticing the flashing light. "So I really do just... have a random room here? This is getting weirder."

He caught the key when Max tossed it took him, looking at the number written on it and shaking his head. "Wow. Uhm." He ran a hand through his hair, unsure of what to do next. "Uh, sure. Food sounds good." The last time he'd eaten anything had been awhile ago. A small grin tugged at his mouth as he thought of his brother, remembering one of the last things he'd said to Sam before he'd been taken to Cold Oaks. He could hear his brother's voice clearly in his head saying, Bring me some pie!

“C’mon, main restaurant is this way”, Max replied, leading the way, when Sam indicated he could eat a bit. It probably wasn’t a bad idea for Max to have a hot meal himself, he was still feeling a little shaky from his encounter with Armand.

The main restaurant was massive to accommodate as many guests as possible at one time. Upon entering, they were greeted by a wooden golem and shown to a table pretty much in the center of the room. The golem then paused and smiled at them. “Rootbeer float and a bottle of Tabasco sauce”, Max said to him. Looking over at Sam, Max informed him, “He wants your drink order. He’ll get the rest when he comes back”. The golem was smiling at Sam now, waiting patiently.

When the golem walked away to retrieve their drinks, Max chuckled, “Well, we have a great view here. Check out some of your fellow abductees!”. Max waved at a few people he knew as they passed to head out of the restaurant. “Oh, Sam, you’ve noticed, I guess, there are no menus. That’s because you can order anything you want. Whatever you ask for, they will make it”. Returning with the drinks, the golem looked at them for their food order. Max poured his bottle of Tabasco sauce into his rootbeer float and stirred it up…he took a long sip, “Ahhhhhhh! You go first, Sam. I’m still not sure”.

Sam followed Max to the restaurant, stopping to stare at the golem in wonder. He'd never seen anything like it before back when he was hunting. He resisted the urge to reach out and poke it, to see what it was made out of it. "Uhm, I'll have a beer," Sam replied when asked what he wanted to drink.

Sam looked around at the people milling around. At least they all looked normal. When Max dumped the bottle of Tabasco sauce into the rootbeer float, Sam stared slightly for a moment then shook his head. Weird, but to each his own. "Cheeseburger and french fries?" he asked.

When Max heard Sam’s order, he perked up, “Yeah, that sounds good”, he told the golem, “I’ll have the same thing, please”. He smiled as he watched Sam drink his beer, “I have to steer clear of those”, he chuckled, “I found out that alcohol and my alien body don’t go well together”, he took another sip of his shake, “one sip of alcohol made me a drunken idiot for over a day!”

Though he could tell that Sam was a bit older than him, Max was pleased to finally be spending time with someone closer to his own age. He missed his friend, Michael, another guy to talk to. “So, Sam, got a girl back home?”, he asked, thinking of Liz.
