Marcus ([info]marcus_cole) wrote in [info]mirage_rpg,
When the voice came again, Marcus was sure it was not his imagination. The voice was more detailed this time, but still vague in its predatory threats. Clearly, whoever was out there wanted him to feel terrified and weak. Unfortunately for them, the Ranger had no interest in feeling either of those things. Until he learned more about his assailant, he had no reason to believe any of the things he said were true, but it was safest to be careful just in case. Marcus spoke under his breath, curious to see if the telepath could hear him.

"You think I've never been stalked by death? Oh, I'll fight you alright."

Then, as he neared the end of a row of vines, he saw a teenaged boy standing there, and he sounded frightened when he spoke. Marcus approached him confidently, with his arms in plain view, his pike still not extended, meaning to show him that he meant no harm.

"Yes. Yes, I do. But don't worry. Voices in your head can't hurt you. Here, stick with me. I'll protect you. Let's get out onto the lawn where we can see what's coming."

Striding forward, he gave a reassuring grin, and assumed the boy would step aside to let him pass. He didn't think it prudent to mention that he knew telepaths who were very capable, in fact, of killing you with voices in your head. Now was the time for courage.
