Who: Riddick and Vaako
What: Riddick finally comes back to their room after running the other night
When: Mid morning
Where: Back in their room now that he has come back.
Rating: Hi. Yes this is Riddick so PG-13 for strong language at least.
Status: complete

Riddick wasn’t sure how much time had passed. How long had it been since he left his room in pain, embarrassed because he was showing weakness? How long had it been since he found this little shack off to the side back away from the beach and tide, being beaten by the hurricane but still standing? Riddick had no clue. He had taken refuge there when he decided he couldn’t return to his room in this shape. He had needed to get away from Vaako. For some odd reason it was only adding to the pain.

He didn’t understand it. As he laid there on the ground of the shack, shivering from the rain and wet clothing sticking to his body, Riddick tried hard to piece this together. The last time he had felt the glowing print at its peak, it didn’t hurt. It just released a deep, dark, thick rage from deep within him. He felt weak afterwards but no pain. Not before, not during and certainly not afterwards. He had seen the affects, the devastation this caused. It was a powerful tool and dangerous. It had killed everyone around him within a few hundred feet and knocked the others even far away on the ash and lava covered mountain on their asses. Which is why he tried hard to control this, not let it consume him. Not let it loose.

But a few nights ago, he felt it, just in a different way. It wasn’t bursting to be released outwardly, but eating him from the inside. The pain was far too much to bare and it hurt even more when the Necro was near him and it seemed to rip his heart out still beating when Vaako was close enough to touch and be touched. Part of him wanted to pull him close to see if he could make the pain stop, and the other part wanted to push him as far away as possible to make the pain go away.

All night and all day yesterday, the Furyan tried his best to figure out just what in the hell was going on. And it only caused him to hurt more. The rain and storm were still raging outside through out the day matching his mood. The print was still glowing though the pain now was a dull, low throb. Constant , but better than it had been before. He believed in his weakened state, he would get sick. He was cold, his clothing still damp and the cold and chill had reached deep down within his bones. Perhaps now he could make it back to his room, and hopefully Vaako would be reading or something in the library.

Forcing himself to move, making his bones and legs work, he made his way across the beach back to the building with his room. He noted the weather had changed so perhaps later if he felt up to it he would take a walk and further explore this new planet though It was the same that had taken him. It just looked different. He hurried back to his room not wanting to run into anyone.

Opening the door and slipping inside, Riddick quickly adjusted to the darkness and looked around, noting Vaako was still asleep. He figured it must be at least mid morning if not a little later. Quietly, not wanting to wake his sleeping roommate, and ignoring the pain that was now racking his body once more. He winced with every step he took, grabbing some clothing, clean and dry and headed toward the bathroom.

Starting the shower, the water as hot as possible, Riddick stepped in and tried to let the water soothe him, warm his weary bones and body. He tried not to think or to focus on the pain. But it was honestly a bit much even for someone like him. Figures this would be the one damn thing he couldn’t heal. Grumbling now at his misfortune, Riddick waited until the water had turned cold, got out of the shower, dried off and quickly got changed. He was feeling a little bit stronger now despite it all. He made sure to put on a t-shirt and sweatshirt to cover the glow that had become stronger and he tried to hide his pain. Maybe he would get lucky and Vakko had left during his shower.

The previous day, Vaako had gone to the library, as usual. It had been a relatively uneventual day, other than witnessing the arguement between the dark-haired girl, who reminded him uncomfortably of his wife, and the man he'd befriended, for lack of a better word. He knew Snape's name from before, but he was pretty sure that the girl was named Faith. He made a mental note to stay away from her. Strong women made him a little nervous, after having been manipulated by one for nearly ten years.

Still, he'd gone back early to his room, to see if Riddick had come back yet. He didn't realize how much he'd been growing used to having the dangerous Furyan around. He wasn't there, and he'd spent the rest of the night reading, waiting for him to come back. He hadn't, though, and finally, around dawn, he had fallen asleep. During the night, the storm had cleared, but even the bright sun wasn't enough to keep the exhausted man awake.

A couple hours later, something woke up him. He wasn't sure what it was. He'd had nightmares all night, just vaguely terrifying dreams that had left him shaking slightly. He kept his eyes half-closed, fighting off the nightmares, as he tried to pierce the darkness. It was hard to see anything, though, so he reached over and turned on the lamp he'd put on his bedside table, just by focusing on it, wanting it. The room, it appeared, would react to his desires. And Riddick hadn't been around to complain.

He flicked the switch and light flooded the room, just as Riddick left the bathroom and came into the main room. The Necromonger sat up in bed, sweating lightly still from his dreams, and swore softly. He immediately turned the light off, for he remembered the sensitivity to the light that the other man had.

"My apologies, my Lord."

Focusing on the pain drew his attention away from the bright room for all of about 2 seconds before he was squinting and trying to close his eyes against the bright light. But soon he could tell the other man had turned the lights down and he was thankful for that. he didn't need that pain on top of the other. In the darkness he opened his eyes, stumbled toward his bed and laid down upon it before grabbing his glasses and sliding under the blanket.

"It's Riddick. How many times have I got to tell ya that?" The words were grumbled out and he tried hard to keep any pain out of his voice. His voice went lower as he mumbled out once more. "Thanks."

He took calculated, deep breaths trying to push the pain away and out. It had been better when he wasn't around Vaako. But yet it hurt to not be around him too. It was confusing and not helping.

"nothing to apologize about I guess. ya didn't know I was here." He spoke again almost absently. Just trying to keep up the conversation and just hearing the man's voice seemed to help... not a hell of a lot but a little.

He couldn't see anything at all, not when the light had gone off. His eyes had gotten used to the light levels, so the sudden darkness was not something he could penetrate. He listened, instead, and heard the rustle of some cloth. He guessed correctly that Riddick had climbed into bed. There was a long silence before the Necromonger dared to speak.

"Again, I apologize. It is hard to remember. The previous Lord Marshal would have had us drawn and quartered if we had dared to call him by his true name."

He paused and thought for awhile. It was a hard situation he was in. Something was wrong with Riddick, he could tell, but he remembered all too vividly how the man had gotten up and disappeared for more than a day the last time he'd tried to help. He felt like he was in a situation where he couldn't win. He wanted to make it better for Riddick, if he could, but he didn't see how he could know it was safe.

"Are you... well, Lord--I mean, Riddick?"

Sighing softly in frustration, he stood up and wandered over to the chest that held his clothing. He didn't know how to ask what he really wanted to know, which was why Riddick had left so suddenly the other night. He didn't understand it, and since that was the case, he didn't know how to prevent it happening again.

It was dark, but Riddick could see very well. He had to sometimes remind himself of that. He looked furtively over his shoulder, saw those silver eyes gleaming in the dark, and turned back so his back was too the other man. Quickly, he stripped out of his sweat-soaked tunic, and put on a new one. The nightmares had been quite affecting... he was tired, but couldn't imagine going back to sleep.

The fact that Vaako looked slightly shaken and was sweating had not went past Riddick. He was just trying to gather his bearings. He frowned then growled and bit out his response.

"I ain't him. And I don't want to be your fucking Lord. Just call me Riddick or don't call me anything. " He wasn't angry, he was frustrated and hurting worse now. But perhaps Vaako would think he was pissed. He didn't know.

Just as he asked the question, the pain in his chest reared its ugly head, racking through him causing him to shake and gasp for air. "Motherfucker.." Came his low curse, laced with pure raw pain. He tried to breathe through t and he pulled back his sweatshirt and tank underneathe, together, to see the glowing blue print, brighter than he had seen it before.

"I. Am. Fine." He bit out, the fact he was lying and probably for the first time ever was quite clear by his voice. Then remembering the state the Commander had been in, he barked out. "I could ask you the same thing. Ya look like shit." And his voice though thick with pain also had something very close, very much like concern and worry for the other man in it.

He had caught sight of the Commander changing. Odd he choose to do it in front of Riddick, knowing full well he could see him. And that.. seeing the Commander, thin, pale and naked not too far from him did not help matters at all. He groaned half in pain and half in longing. This was not good. He should not have come back.. but he had to.

It didn't take him long to get changed into the new outfit he'd chosen, which, as usual, was very similar to the last one. Black, of course, but with small hints of silver woven in. When he was dressed, he turned back to the other man, bowing half ironically.

"As you wish. I will call you Riddick, or I will call you nothing."

As he rose from the bow, hazel eyes widened as he saw a small flash of something glowing blue, which shone briefly and then was covered again, just as quickly. Gracefully, without thinking, he made his way over to the side of Riddick's bed, looking down with some concern, trying to see the other man but not succeeding now that the blue glow was concealed once more.

"Dreams, nothing more, just nightmares. Nothing to concern yourself. But... what was that? Why were you glowing? The eyes, I am used to by now but that... I have never seen anything like that before."

Though, of course, he had. He'd seen the Rage on Crematoria, but he hadn't known what it was. Though he'd tried to study it, he'd so far been distracted, and hadn't found anything. And even if he had, he wouldn't have been able to equate it, with all it's killing destructive power, with the odd, softly glowing, mark that he'd only caught a glimpse of.

Riddick watched Vaako carefully but he couldn't seem to respond and when the other man came closer, he thought about the lights. They came on but as low as he could stand them without the goggles but enough to allow Vaako to see. He wasn't even sure why he had done it to be honest. He accepted teh comment about his name and let it go. TH eother man would either do it or not. He didn't care.

But when the other man was close, looking down at him, Riddick felt weak, felt wide opened and raw. He felt vulnerable. And the fact that the other man was concerned with him though he was having nightmares did something to Riddick. His hands itched and twitched to reach out to the other man, pull him own. He would have ran just like before, but he couldn't. He couldn't move. The pain was worse and for some odd reason, he felt this urge, this overwhelming urge to reach out and take Vaako's hand, place it over the damn print just to see if it would stop hurting.

"I'd say it's something. It has you bothered." He paused, his voice soft, low, the pain clear. He shrugged like it was nothing. "That was the curse of a world of people that I carry with me. Though I think it has decided to become something more... it isn't supposed to be like this." He turned away closing his eyes. For the first time in almost 6 years, Riddick sounded... he sounded human to his own ears and that bothered him. The urge to pull Vaako closer, the urge to show him the glowing print, the urge to beg him to make it stop.. it was all too much and he was gonna break.

"I'm warning ya now, I don't know what I will do if you don't back up. Don't mistake this as a threat that I want or will hurt you. That is not what I am talking about." He said simply hoping the other man would know he meant it. He didn't want to hurt Vaako, not even close to it. But he also hoped he would gather the true meaning of the words and back off. Yet he also hoped he would not back off. Strange that was.

Hazel eyes narrowed in the sudden light, though it was low, barely enough for him to see. But it was enough. He would have never thought to see that face etched with pain. He'd seen Riddick fight over and over, and he'd never seen anything remotely like what he was seeing now. Even when Kyra had died, Riddick hadn't shown pain. He'd just sat down, expressionless. This... was a little intimidating.

He didn't know what to do, so he just hovered. He wouldn't dare sit on the other man's bed, because whatever Riddick said, he was his Lord Marshal and it would be unthinkable to take such a liberty. So he just continued to look down, concern on his normally expressionless face.

"Dreams are nothing... it is just a sign that I am... the Purification... well, it is a thing all Necromongers must deal with at one time or another. Think no more of it. I have never heard of this... I do not know what you mean, that you carry a world with you. Because you are the last Furyan?"

The tone of voice was disarming. Riddick's voice was normally calm, almost emotionless, though deeper than anyone he'd ever heard speak before. But this Riddick, he sounded not like an emotionless killing machine, but like a person. And Vaako, who had little idea how to deal with Riddick as he normally was, had absolutely none at all how to handle this.

"I don't understand... but if you think there is something I can do to help, you know I am yours to command."

The Furyan tried to concentrate on breathing and not giving into his urges. He always had a tight grip on control. He was calculating, always holding a tight hold on control and restraint. But now,now it was like Riddick was not even in his mind.He had no control, no restraint. He was failing and soon the physical signs of his pain, that he could not hide were becoming embarrassingly obvious.

Riddick didn't know how to deal with himself. He wasn't sure what in the hell he was doing or what would happen. He didn't trust himself and that was scary. He told the man to back off and he didn't. Damn it. And he couldn't demand it of him. He didn't want to. By not listening to him,Vaako was doing what he wanted which was staying close clearly. And though it was dangerous, Riddick didn't want him to leave.

"Now is not the time to talk about this when I can't think past the pain to respond the way I want."Every word was bitten out, pain laced each one. But he was interested in the fact that Vaako seemed to be changing "Last furyan, get lucky to carry their anger and rage for what that sick fucker did."Now there was not only pain but anger in his words directed to the last Lord Marshal. And the pain was worse at him feeling anger.

It was too much and the last grip he had on sanity, control and reality slipped. And Riddick went barreling over an edge that had him shaking and desperate. Almost in an animal like violence,Riddick sat up, his shaky hands went to remove the sweatshirt, trying to get it over his head. But in his impatience and pain, he ended up,almost effortlessly ripping the material off and tossing it to the side.Through his tank the glowing print was quite obvious and almost evil in its bright blue light.

"don't want to command you, damnit. Want you to do what ya want.."But it was too much and he gave in,no choice, no control.Reaching out with a shaky hand,he gripped Vaako's wrist in a tight and painful grasp sure he was bruising the pale skin.He pulled him hard and forcefully towards him.In a desperate move,he forced the pale hand in his own against the print on his chest.Just the touch had him gasping half in pain as it got worse and then shock as it begin to slowly simmer, though the glowing seemed to get brighter. His body had arched in an almost violent way as it bean to simmer and then he fell back hard against the bed. He couldn't talk, his breathing was labored and he had no idea how to explain this. Why was this Necro's touch making the pain go away? Why was his touch doing things and making Riddick's already weak mind think things it should not? His grip lessened on Vaako's wrist but he didn't let go and showed no signs of doing so just yet.

Vaako willingly let go of the dream thing, which he didn't really want to talk about anyway. It seemed to him that it wasn't the most important thing going on here. The pain on Riddick's face was becoming more and more obvious, to the point where Vaako couldn't understand what was going on. How could something hurt this badly, and leave no mark other than a strange blue glow?

He nodded at Riddick's explanation, though he didn't really understand it. He filed it away for later study. Maybe, with that new information, he'd be able to learn more about this odd phenomenon. Not that he knew why he wanted to, only that he did. Maybe so that he could help when this happened. Not that he really thought Riddick wanted the help, but maybe he needed it. Nor did he so much as flinch when Riddick called the previous Lord Marshal a 'sick fucker'. After all, it was true. It was the reason Vaako had picked Riddick as the previous Lord Marshal's replacement.

Anything he could have said, might have said, was pushed out of him in an almost violent exhalation of air as the sweatshirt was ripped off. Even if the lights had all been off, the blue glow would have easily been enough to light up the room. And it was obvious to him that it was a glowing handprint showing on the smooth, muscled chest of the man who was his Lord Marshal. Before he could react, before he had a chance to do more than just stare, his hand was taken, his arm nearly ripped out of it's socket at the other man's brutal, desperate actions. It didn't hurt, really. He was still a Necromonger, and pain was dulled. At worst, it felt vaguely uncomfortable.

And then, his fingers were flat on Riddick's chest, and he noticed with a sort of detached curiousity that every inch of that glowing print was covered with his hand. He fell forward, hazel eyes locked on his own hand on the other man's chest. It looked, more than anything, like it had been his hand which inflicted this on the Lord Marshal. It was a perfect fit. The glow got brighter, but only because Vaako's hand conducted it. His pale skin glowed blue all over for just a second, and then subsided into a small area, just his hand and part of his forearm.

He fell forward onto the bed, but struggled to his knees. Dimly, he wondered how it would look if anyone came in right now. They might think he was killing Riddick, kneeling over the prone man on the bed. The bruising gripe around his wrist slackened, but he didn't pull away from this strange touch. It seemed to be helping... or at least he thought it was.

"Richard... Rick... are you alright?"

He didn't even realize what he had just called him, just being busy being concerned. And he couldn't even figure how he had known the other man's first name. He'd never heard it before. He hadn't known it before today, and now he did. That was all there was too it.

He felt it. The moment Vaako relaxed and didn't fight to move his hand from Riddick's chest. He felt it deep inside when Vaako spread his hand lat, palm resting over the hand print. He had closed his eyes, trying to let his body decide if it wanted to hurt or to let the pain go now that Vaako's hand was doing something. Something odd.

He saw it in his mind. And the moment the slight hint of blue began to show on Vaako's body, Riddick's eyes snapped opened, his breathing hard as he watched in fascination, horror and confusion. He didn't understand why Vaako's body glowed the same color as his print, sharing the signature almost. No not almost, directly. It was only a second and the glow settled to just covering the pale skin of the Commanders hand and forearm. Not only did he see this outwardly, he was seeing it inwardly. His breathing was still harsh in his chest, but it was starting to calm, his body was shaking but now less violently than before.

The slender pale hand fit the impression on Riddick's chest. Perfectly. Too perfectly. Like Vaako had put it there. but that was impossible right? It wasn't a generic print it was one that was unique, made by one thing and something that would not grace another. He had seen one more.. on Crematoria. On the Purifier. But it was different, the finger marks were slightly different from the one on Riddick's. He wondered if it was just his or if they were all different. Then something, something from a dream almost came flooding back to him.

He relaxed a little on the bed, still clinging almost to Vaako's arm and not at all letting him move it. The pain was a soft, dull throb. Not at all painful just annoying. But the glow.. even through once more closed eyes, he could see the blue glow. Could feel it rushing through him. Could feel it thrumming through Vaako's hand. He needed to figure this out. The woman in his dream had mentioned something about a gift, the Rage as she called it, of his people. Again he had used it before and it was nothing at all like this. Not like what was happening now.

"What.. What the hell is happening?" Riddick's voice was softer now, softer than he could ever remember having it.Pain and question lacing it making it thick though still low. Then..

"How in the hell did you know that, Cylus?" Wait. What? Cylus? How in the hell? Where in the hell did that come from? He didn't know But he just knew that was his name. He never bothered nor cared before but now just as Vaako knew his, Riddick knew his and he wasn't sure what to make of that.Tugging on Vaako to make him sit, because Riddick had not planned to let him go and he didn't want the man uncomfortable. Something told him if he was then Riddick would be too.

Then remembering something something that had almost escaped his notice because of the pain earlier, Riddick looked at Vaako, still trying to pick up the pieces, trying ot regain himself and strength and control.

"You have questions. Ask them." It wasn't a question or even statement. It was a gentle demand.

Vaako didn't resist in the slightest, and Riddick had no difficulty at all moving him into a sitting position on the bed. Part of him was still appalled that he would dare to sit like this beside the Lord Marshal, but it was a very small part. Mostly, he was too shocked by whatever it was that had just happened. Nothing he'd ever felt could compare to it. It hadn't been painful, just overwhelming.

As settled down more comfortably, his hand still on the firmly muscled chest, and looked from his hand to the other man's eyes, glowing silver. He rarely saw the other man without his protective glasses, and normally, he felt that he sort of couldn't really look into the other man's eyes. The reflective surface made his gaze just slide away. This time, though, he just looked, his hazel eyes not moving away.

"I don't know... nothing like this has ever..."

Riddick's question made him frown thoughtfully, and realize just what he had called his Lord Marshal. Consternation filled him immediately. He'd felt wrong about calling the other man by his last name, let alone his first. After, though, he realized just what he'd done. He hadn't known Riddick's name. He was sure of it. No one had ever told him, and he'd never found out. So how was it that he had said it without thinking?

More than that, though, his head snapped up and shock covered his face, subtle, but obvious to anyone who knew him very well. That list of people was very short, of course, and to most people, he looked pretty much expressionless all the time. It had been odd enough to know Riddick's name. After all, he might have overheard someone use it, and just forgot. But for Riddick to use the name that Vaako hadn't used since before he'd been purified, the name that he would have sworn no one still living knew, that was something else.

"No, wait... how did you know my name...? No one knows that name..."

He shook his head slightly and blinked finally, realizing it had been a very long time since he'd done so. His eyes had nearly dried out, just because he'd been busy trying to see beneath the silvery gleam of the other man's eyes. With a sort of quiet desparation, he tried to gather his wits about him.

"I hardly know what to ask first. How did you know my name? How did I know yours? Why was I blue? How come the print on your chest was the same size and shape as my hand?"

It was far more than the quiet man normally said, and once he'd started, it came out all at once.

It was odd even to him, no, especially to him. His eyes, they normally held no depth, no emotion. The silvery orbs were normally blank due to the fact that these were not normal eyes. He could see, he could look at someone, hold their gaze, read their eyes, read their souls. But they could not do the same to him. Until now he was pretty damn sure of it. This time when Vaako met his eyes, Riddick could tell something was changing within the silvery orbs. But he didn't look away.

Once the other man was settled on the bed, Riddick relaxed more and let go of his wrist, still glowing blue and still over the impression. Please don't move your hand.. he thought. Of course the other man wouldn't know right? But he couldn't seem to speak the words. He still wasn't sure what this was.But he was sure he wouldn't be able to handle loosing the contact. He just hoped that Vaako wouldn't move his wrist until he could force his voice to work and ask him not to.

"I don't think this is supposed to work that way." Riddick spoke trying hard to remember everything that he had been told about this Rage and the print. Nothing that came back to him had anything to do with this. Why Vaako's hand matched the print, why he knew his name, why he made the pain stop.

"I.. I don't know. It just came to me without thinking." He pursed his lips trying to piece this all together. At the same time he was breathing through the trembling and what was left of the pain. WHen the rapid fire questions ame at him, it made his head spin.

"I don't know. I already covered that one. You don't know that's been covered. I don't know.." He trailed off and growled and cursed. "This is useless. Neither of has answers. But I wish I knew why you were blue. Why the pain went away with your touch. Why it is making me tremble and scared to let you go.. "

Yes well that wasn't supposed to come out yet it had. He hated feeling opened and vulnerable.

It was a bit awkward sitting with his hand on the other man's chest. There was an obvious response to this, of course, which would be to remove his hand, to break the contact. This was not the route he took. Instead, he left it laying there, and shifted a little backwards, and closer to the other man, so the hand lay more naturally on the other man's chest. Then, he settled down into a comfortable position, prepared to sit there with his hand right where it was til Underverse come. Since that was never going to happen here, that would be a really long time.

"I will read what I can find on the subject... the library is very accomadating when it comes to books that are available. Like everything else here, concentrate, and you find what you are seeking."

Though his position had changed slightly, he didn't look away from the other man's strange eyes. No one could read them, and he was no different. Or, at least, he hadn't been. Only time would tell what the effects of the blue glow had been on his body, but one of them seemed to be some sort of ability to read this strange man more. With some surprise, carefully concealed, he realized that there was real emotion in those eyes. Who would have thought?

"No, no. You are correct, Rick. Neither of us knows anything. Until I can get to the library, or we can convince the Planet to bring the Elemental here to answer our questions, there is little talking about this can do. Or so I believe." He paused for a moment. "I do not know why I would glow like that. Perhaps that is the most disturbing thing of all. One second thought... no. The fact that my hand matches the print exactly, that is the oddest thing. As if it had been I who had marked you originally."

He was aware things were changing with this new found whatever in the hell it was. he was very much aware that he could sense, feel and read Vaako much much better than before. When the man settled in for the long haul and moved even closer to Riddick he reached out and rested one arm behind Vaako, the limb resting against his back lightly, casually. Though it felt anything but casual. He felt the damn touch almost like a fire on his skin.

He wasn't sure about this reading and finding answers in a damn book. But now the Elemental would prove most useful if she were here. Which she wasn't which meant they were screwed.

He could tell, somehow that Vaako was probably more in tune with him than anyone had ever been in his life. He knew that whatever this damn thing was, it was changing them. He also knew somehow that it would not have happened had it been someone else. It was almost like it was destined to happen between him and Vaako and it had. What it all meant he wasn't sure.

And why in the fuck was he okay with Vaako calling him Rick? Not even Richard, but Rick. A nickname that no one had ever called him.

"No talking will not do anything though I doubt your books will either, Cylus. But I guess I could be wrong. But until we know maybe we can try and figure this out ... or some of it on our own." He paused and looked down at the slender hand on his chest, now looking as if it were one with the glow. Maybe it was. The pain was gone now though he felt weak."Seen one other thing like this on the Purifier... his looked nothing like mine.... Not even close. This..." He pointed toward the hand."It is like you did this." Not accusing just a curious tone.

Then suddenly he had an idea. He had to know. He looked at Cylus, his silvery eyes narrowing knowing they might show something in them akin to curiosity and wonderment.

"When I tell you to, I want you to move your hand.I need to know."he paused and braced himself as much as he could. He did not know what this would do to him. How it would affect him. He didn't know how or if it would affect Vaako to loose the contact. He took a deep breath, stealed himself then nodded and bit out."NOW."

He looked thoughtfully at the other man, the slightest trace of a smile on his lips that would, most likely, be completely unreadable to most people. Of course, with whatever it was that had happened, Riddick certainly wasn't 'most people'. Not that he had been before, really, but it was so strange. He'd been really quite fearful of the bald man, and been just waiting for the other man to attack him once more. That fear was gone, for whatever reason. He just knew, somehow, that Riddick wasn't going to attack him. He hoped he was right.

"You may be surprised. Already, I have found books you might never have expected. I was concentrating on finding books on the handprint on your chest, but perhaps not strong enough. Still, I did find other interesting things. I learned much of Furya, from books that must have been destroyed when..." He paused and shook his head. No good to go there, that was for sure. He spoke softly. "I wish I could remember the name of my... of the Planet that was my home before the Necromongers came. Then, I could read on that, as well."

"I do not think I did this, as I believe this is the first time I have ever touched your chest. It might be one of the first I've ever touched you at all, come to think of it."

Riddick's command caught him off guard, but the other man gave him plenty of time to react. When he was ordered to remove his hand from the smooth skin of Riddick's chest, he felt momentary regret that he pushed firmly down, and lifted his hand completely and entirely away. He was still very close, and also very aware of the arm that was loosely around him. He didn't move away.

Riddick would trust Vaako which sounded so odd. he trusted no one, least of all someone he was sure wanted him dead. yet here he was, trusting him. He even said as much with a nod and small words. "I will take your word for it. I trust ya. "

But his eyes closed taking in the closeness then though he had steeled himself, when Vaako moved his hand, Riddick felt it. Not even a second to adjust before the pain racked through him again, reducing his muscular body to a shaking, heaving mass on the bed. Why it was happening he wasn't sure. But he couldn't handle it and he reached out, grabbed Vaako's hand and put it back on his chest. The angry glow died don the moment it had gotten contact back with the other man. Once he was in control and the pain had went, Riddick growled.

"What the fuck? I can't sit here with your hand on my chest the entire fucking time? And even I can't stand the fucking pain. What in the hell?" He was angry, confused and scared. he didn't get this. "Guess you're stuck here until I figure this out."

"I trust ya."

When was the last time that someone had said that to the Necromonger commander? Not since his planet was attacked, the people all brutally taken or murdered. Maybe back then, but even then, it wasn't something that people usually say to each other. He found himself smiling a little, even as he wondered. Why would Riddick trust him? Would he be worthy of that trust?

He didn't have much time to think about it. Soon, Riddick was writhing in pain on the bed, and to be honest, before the bald man even grabbed his hand, Vaako was moving to put his hand on the other man's chest once more. He didn't think. He just acted. And when his hand was back on the other man's chest, back where someone or something clearly thought it belonged, he felt a sense of pride that he'd stopped the pain.

".....Loyalty until Underverse come..."

He murmured out the rote words, but they seemed to have a whole knew sort of meaning when said in this situation. And there was a slight smile still on his lips, again, one that most people wouldn't notice. But it wasn't an expression he'd ever worn while looking at the previous Lord Marshal.

The statement made him growl. This was.. fuck. he didn't like this. Not now because in so many wyas he had no choice but to demand the Commander stay where he was until he could figure out how to deal with this pain. But even then. He couldn't stand this. He sat up and then quickly pulled away, the pain hitting him once more. he felt.. sick now. The pain too much but whatever.

"Don't want you to fee obligated to be here regardless of the reason, damn it." It was a pride thing. Maybe he took the words differently, but damn it. He wanted someone... no not someone. He wanted Vaako, Cylus here because he wanted to be. Not because he felt obligated because of him being the damn Lord Marshal or because of this fucking pain.

He tried to stand but he fell back to the bed. It hurt far too much and he couldn't deal with it. He knew what would make it stop but he couldn't reach out and touch him, bring that hand back.Fucking foolish pride.

For a short time, he allowed Riddick to do what he wanted, pulling away and trying to stand. But his face was a mask of concern, and when Riddick was back on the bed, Vaako was right there waiting. He hadn't moved even an inch. Riddick fell down almost exactly into the same place he had before.

For a moment, the dark-haired man paused, and just looked at the other man. This was the man he was supposed to follow, the man he'd picked to be the next Lord Marshal. And, to be honest, Vaako couldn't understand what he was saying. Didn't everyone do everything because they were obligated to?

"Well, what other reason is there, my Lord? What reason other than obligation?"

It was shocking, in a way, even to him that he'd spoken those words. They were far too close to a challenge, and one simply didn't challenge the Lord Marshal and walk away from it. Even worse, despite the fact Riddick had pulled away, Vaako reached out and pressed his hand flat against the glowing blue handprint once more.

He didn't fight. He accepted the fact that right now he needed Vaako. He wouldn't think beyond this because of that tiny voice in his head saying he would always need him. He didn't dare speak until Vaako had decided to take his pain away by putting his hand back on the mark.

Once the pain had died enough, Riddick to a deep breath. "The other reason would be because you want to do it, not because you feel you have to. I want an equal.." He paused and shook his head.

"Looks like you're stuck here because clearly I can't seem to breathe without your hand on my chest. This is fucking inconvient." His eyes closed and he felt weak again and so very tired.

The dark-haired man frowned thoughtfully as his hand stayed on the other man's chest. He was quite content to sit here forever, if that's what his Lord Marshal... if that's what Riddick wanted. The two things were similar, and yet different in ways he didn't quite understand.

"Wanting to is just another sort of obligation. One to yourself."

He shifted just a little, so that his shoulder wasn't as awkward an angle. It also happened to bring him closer to the other man, but that, he told himself firmly, had nothing to do with anything.

"If I'm stuck here, I'm stuck here. I suppose the library will wait."

Riddick frowned. He was tired and if Vaako was to be stuck here with him while he napped then it would need to be where the other man was comfortable. Without thinking he reached out and pulled the other man down, so his head was resting on Riddick's shoulder, that slender hand still on his chest.

"I suppose. To tired to argue this with you." He was already feeling himself go into sleep which was so odd for a man who didn't need sleep.

"When I sleep, you cna feel free to move. Maybe then this fucking thing won't hurt. Too tired, too weak to stay up."

Despite himself, he let out a slight gasp when he was pulled down. He tended to pride himself on not being very revealing when things surprised him. It made him hard to read, usually, but Riddick cut right through that. Of course, it wasn't exactly normal for sworn enemies to be in each others arms, either.

"Good. Rest, then."

He nodded, silently accepting Riddick's words, but not commenting on them further than that. But he rested his head on the other man's shoulder, and spoke very softly, in a way he wouldn't have dreamed he ever would.

"I read something that made me think... do you want to hear it?"

Normally he would have noticed the fact that Vaako was shocked. Hell normally this would not be happening. He wouldn't be holding this man. Yet here he was. Needing him, holding him.

His eyes closed and he actually relaxed. He had never felt this tired. It was so odd. And Vaako's voice was really starting to soothe him as much as the touch.

"Yes... tell me what made you think." Riddick said softly.

He felt a little uncomfortable with his head on the other man's broad shoulder. It was too intimate, and it confused him that he liked it. It was so comfortable, in fact, that it felt uncomfortable. Which made no sense, but somehow did at the same time.

"I was reading a play... by the same writer who wrote the last one. William Shakespeare. This one wasn't in Scotland, which I still don't understand where it's located, but somewhere else."

He cleared his throat and then softly started to recite. For some reason, he'd learned the words by heart, even though he'd only read them over a few times.

"'Oh me, what fray was here? Yet tell me not, for I have heard it all. Here's much to do with hate but more with love. Why then, O brawling love, O loving hate, O anything, of nothing first create! O heavy lightness, serious vanity. Misshapen chaos of well-seeming forms, feather of lead'"

He shook his head and stopped reciting.

"I don't know why it made me think. It just did."

Riddick was floating between sleep and wakefulness. But then Vaako began to speak and it was words he ha never heard before. He wasn't much of a reader. But something about those words.

He thought on them, trying to figure out what they mean. At least to him since they had touched him fr some reason. But he was far too tired and he was sure he was falling asleep.

"Interesting that they struck you. There is something there.. just can't figure it out." He yawned, shook slightly at the fact he was holding this man and the fact that it felt too damn good. Too damn right.

He nodded and smiled just a little, going off into a bit of a reverie as he laid there. It was still odd to be cuddling this man. Beyond odd, really. And even stranger to be quoting a play to him.

"I think the play is going to end badly... no one wants Romeo and Juliet to be together. I just get this bad feeling..."

He lapsed into silence before speaking once more. It was surprising that he was basically chatting with this man. On top of everything else, it was a little much to take.

"Sleep."

He was tired and even as Vaako spoke he was giving in to the sleep that wanted to claim him. But little did he know that as he fell into a deep sleep, he had curled into and was clinging just slightly to the man a he slept.

In his sleep, he could see Vaako, see him standing somewhere, on a planet, not one he had seen before. It was odd seeing Vaako in his sleep. He was peaceful here, not a Necro but himself. It made him smile in his sleep. Probably the first time he had ever truly smiled.

In his dream the pain stopped and he was free to move around, free to go over to dream Vaako. But he didn't, something stopped him. As he slipped even further into sleep, his hold n Vaako while not violent had gotten stronger.

As soon as the other man slept, Vaako pulled away. It was hard. The other man was strong, and was holding on more tightly. Also, he realized with a sense of shock, that he really didn't want to leave.

He did anyway. He had a lot to read about in the library, and some very confusing things going on inside him. He pulled away and knelt on the bed for awhile, looking into Riddick's sleeping face for a long time. Finally, he got up off the bed all together, pulled his hand away from the other man's chest, and headed for the door.

He was halfway to the library before he realized that he hadn't put any armor on. Not even one single piece. He didn't go back to get it.
