Day 11 // Vala arrives
Who: Vala & Mamoru
When: Day 11 early afternoon
Where: The café
Why: Arrival post
Rating: PG-13 for language
Status: Completed.

The café was peaceful especially at this time of the day and there were not many customers - if you could be a customer in a place where you did not pay for anything. The hurricane was again raging outside after the sweet moment of calm in the morning, but there was slow pop music playing on the radio distracting thoughts away from the storm. In doors it was a lovely early afternoon when no one was hurrying or making any sudden movement or loud noises.

Up until the moment that something mostly black appeared out of no where above one of the round tables - luckily an empty one as well, as the thing dropped with a loud shriek on the table making a startlingly loud crash. The table's leg broke with the sudden weight and it fell over completely. The flower vase shattered on the floor sprinkling water around it, the chairs around the table were flown backwards and fallen over, and what ever rolled over on the floor from the falling table hit the next table as well, bringing it down and breaking yet more vases.

Silence fell to the café once again and everything was still for a moment. The destruction of the surprising appearance was mind-boggling, and somehow the quiet and the still before and after only emphasized it.

Finally something moved again, but slowly this time.

"O-ow," was a painful groan from under the other fallen table. It was pushed aside and a woman sat up in the middle of the havoc she had caused with her appearance. She was dressed entirely in black - she had some sort of black cargo pants, a black jacket with strange labels and symbols on it, and black army boots. Her long hair was black but there was a silvery white stripe in the front surrounding her face. She had pigtails, but her rough landing had left her hair rumpled, and she looked all together incoherent like she had gotten a hit on her head and was seeing stars.

He'd realized something the previous day, after having spent the time with Giselle that he had. He wasn't going to hold a grudge against Michiru, no matter how crazy she'd acted, or what she'd said. It wasn't worth getting all bent out of shape over. And, if he was really honest with himself, he could admit that part of it was just how out of sorts he'd been about being torn away from home, where he'd met and actually befriended a few people. Surely, he hadn't acted his best.

None of this, however, meant that he was going to be in a big hurry to run out and meet with the woman he knew as Princess Neptune anytime soon. Just because he bore her no further ill will didn't mean that he felt any urge to talk to her again. Still, Giselle had shown him there were decent people in this world. He'd been feeling much better about the situation... until the dreams came.

All his life, he'd been blessed, or perhaps cursed, with the ability to see things that hadn't happened yet through dreams. Last night had been filled with those dreams, and the sense that some sort of overwhelming chaos was coming was oppressive. He awoke feeling like he hadn't slept. The really irritating thing was that ususally the dreams were quite vague, so he had no idea of any specifics, nor that it was about Dahak's arrival. He just felt like maybe he'd be required to use his Tuxedo Mask persona more often.

He'd been spending all sorts of time sequestered in his room, which hadn't done wonders for his social interaction. Sure, he'd met the bald man who'd done his best to break his ribs, and the strange man Jigen, as well as, of course, Michiru and Giselle. But that wasn't really so much, when he was supposedly going to be here for the rest of his life. Not that he was in any way resigned to that, but still. It couldn't hurt to scope the place out.

So, upon rising, he showered and dressed before braving the hurricane and heading towards the cafe. A quick breakfast, and then he'd go be social if it killed him. He was in no way prepared for the arrival of the woman in the center of the table beside his, but being who he was, wasn't really able to just sit there without at least seeing it she was hurt. It did occur to him briefly that this might be the one his dreams had been warning him about, but he pushed that aside. He'd worry about that after he helped her.

Quickly, he rose and pulled the last of the broken table off the rumpled female who had seemingly fallen out of nowhere. It was so similar to his own experience that he knew she'd just been taken. Great. He had to play babysitter. Still, his sense of duty wouldn't allow him to back away from this, and he knelt down in front of the dark-haired woman.

"You okay?" He held up two fingers. "How many fingers do you see?"

The woman tilted her head looking disoriented at Mamoru's fingers.

"Four," she answered, and then changed her mind. "Two. Don't do that. I hate it when people try to be cheeky like that," she frowned apparently thinking that Mamoru had first held up four fingers, and then changed to two.

Up close he could see that she was most likely older than he was, but beautiful in a very original manner. Her features were strong - her jawline, high cheek bones and her straight nose made her look almost masculine, but her blue eyes and wide mouth were definitely balancing her to seem very feminine. Her voice was also something one did not expect right away - her accent was what someone from Earth would call British, and her voice was exotically deep and low, a purring sort of a tone.

She looked around slowly and started to realize where she was - or where she was not anymore.

"No wait," she began and forced herself up on her unstable feet. "Whatta hell is this? Where am I?" she looked at Mamoru demandingly but suddenly turned around with a gasp as she realized something. "And where the hell is my ship?!"

The dark-haired man rolled his blue eyes at her comment, not sure if she was being a brat, or if she was actually having trouble seeing. Still, when it came to head injuries, it was always better to assume the worst, just in case. So he helped her up, noticing first and foremost how different she looked from the Japanese women he knew. Not at all unattractive, just... different.

He was quite a bit taller than her, but then, he was taller than everyone. He supported her easily and looked into her eyes, checking for any dilation of pupils that would indicate concussion. That was about all he knew how to do, and that was from TV, but it was better than sitting around doing nothing.

"You're on Mirage..."

Well, crap. He was going to have to play tourguide now, wasn't he? He sighed and rubbed his eyes with his free hands. After the dreams he had last night, he wasn't sure he was going to be able to handle this. But maybe she'd make it easy. He could hope.

"Well, sucks that you got me to be the one to meet you, but whatever. I'm Mamoru, if you can't handle that, call me Darien, and you've been kidnapped by a lonely, sad little Planet. You're never allowed to go back, you can't kill people, and around here somewhere is a room key for you."

The woman looked at Mamoru with her mouth slightly ajar and her eyes wide, nodding at the list he was making. Lonely sad little planet? Never allowed to go back? Room key? What?

It took a moment for Vala to connect the pieces of her imaginary puzzle. The Ori were building the Supergate to jump from their galaxy to the Milkyway, like the silly Earthlings called it (what sort of a name is Milkyway for a galaxy, anyway?), to invade. However, she had taken a ship to distract the dialing, but at that part... she must have somehow been transported to the Ori galaxy, where she was now being played mind games on.

Right? Right?

She looked around seeing a quiet café with a couple of people staring at her. There was a strange alien creature she had never seen before behind the counter. A friendly hunk was holding her. Of her options, Vala picked the "play along" one that seemed to work quite often.

She nodded again to Mamoru looking back at him still wildeyed. "A kidnapping planet? Okay... I've seen weirder things. Well, no I haven't. I've seen things almost as weird as that," she sidetracked but then suddenly smiled at Mamoru tilting her head. "I'm Vala, but if you can't resist it, you can call me Gorgeous too."

She'd reacted about a million times better than Michiru had when he'd greeted her. Which meant either she was seriously fine with it, or she didn't quite believe him. Either way, he figured he'd done his job, so he tried to help her to her feet.

"Do you need a doctor...? Actually, I don't know if we have one, but I guess we must or else it wouldn't be much of a place to live. Can you stand?"

He wasn't done yet... he supposed he should show her to her room, find her room key, maybe take her to the plaque. Her words had him looking at her, a little surprised before he shrugged. It wasn't the first time he'd had someone flirt with him, but it always made him vaguely uncomfortable. Of course, he hid it behind a stoic facade, as he normally did with everything.

"Vala works. If you can walk, there's a plaque you should read."

She touched her head and stroke her messy hair down to make it look tidier. Then she looked down at her self and wiped some dust off of her black outfit that looked like some sort of a uniform or a military group - it felt out of place when you looked at the bemused woman with pigtails.

"I think I'm f-fine," she said, but just as she spoke she took a step and stumbled so that she bumped into Mamoru. She gasped and grabbed his sides with her hands leaning against the tall young man as if she could not stand on her own. Of course she could, but she preferred to make an effect on someone. In fact it was not even a conscious choice on her part to play the Damsel In Distress card - for her it was natural and fitting.

"A plaque?" she asked looking up at Mamoru with her blue eyes, raising her eyebrows helplessly. "Anything to explain this, so if you could help me a bit..."

He was vaguely irritated... but he also had a bit of a hero thing, and when she stumbled, it was impossible for him not to try and help her. If she'd been fine, he would have led her through the experience and tried to get away as soon as possible. Now, he was bound here. He sighed and put a steadying arm around her shoulders.

"Just hold onto me, alright? Put your arm around my waist."

He was a smart guy in most respects, but was a bit of a sucker for anyone who really needed help. Especially, he would admit to himself if no one else, pretty women. As he was about to lead her away, one of the golems came up and stood motionless in front of them, holding something out to the stunned woman.

"It's your key..."

She draped her arm around his waist without hesitation and leaned against him heavily. One thing she knew about men - they all wanted to be heroes, and helping especially damsels in distress made them feel strong. Vala had no moral restrictions against taking advantage of that.

She stared up at the golem as it approached - she had seen plenty of aliens in her time, but not creatures like this before.

"Umm," she began staring at the golem not first quite understanding what it was going to do, but seeing the key she then slowly extended her arm to take it. She glanced at Mamoru, and then at the golem. "Thank you," she finally said.

Once the golem was gone, she turned to Mamoru again and whispered incredibly audibly, "What was that thing? And what am I supposed to do with this?" she held out the key marked B222.

He waited with a sort of strained patience as the woman accepted the key from the golem, and when the thing trudged away, he glanced down to see her room number. At least he'd know where to take her after they'd seen the plaque.

"It's your room number... you're in B dormitory, on the second floor. I'll show you, after the plaque."

He started walking, but slowly, so that she could keep up. Her leaning on him didn't bother him. She didn't weigh all that much, and he was very strong. He had no problem helping her toward the door, but he kept it to a pace that someone with a head injury, as he thought she must have, would keep it.

Vala followed slowly, holding him quite tightly with her arm around him. She began thinking that this probably was not a bad turn of events, but she worried about what had happened. Where was she? Where was her ship? What had happened to Daniel and the others after she had left them?

She was looking around at the place she was in, studying the faces and the dressing styles of the few people she saw trying to get a hold of the strange place she had gotten into.

"Is there a storm outside?" she asked when she got a glance at a window and could not keep quiet anymore. Then the flood of questions began. "What planet is this, what star system? Who leads you? Are you a Jaffa or... no, you're not marked," she answered her own question and realized that she saw nothing around her that would tie the place into Goa'uld enslavement. It could, however, be an Ori planet. In that case it would be only a matter of time when someone would start talking about the Book of Origin.

He had been quite content to just walk in silence towards the large room where the plaque was, but of course, she couldn't let him do that. He barely held back an annoyed sigh and did his best to answer the questions. He just wasn't much good at this greeting thing.

"Yes, this damn hurricaine has been going for days, it's getting really old. The planet doesn't really have a name, it's just The Planet, or Mirage. No one leads us, we were all stolen from our own worlds. I'm from Earth, Tokyo, 20th century." Not that he knew if that would mean anything to her. "I don't know who these Jaffa people are, but no, I'm not marked."

He pushed open the door into the room where the plaque was, and held it open as he helped her inside.

"Right. Read that, and if you have more questions, I'll try to answer them."

Hearing he was from Earth, she immediately opened her mouth looking excited. "Earth! Then you're from the Stargate program, aren't yo-" she began but... he could not know about the Stargate if he did not know about the Jaffa. She shut her mouth abruptly, remembering that on Earth the Stargate was a top secret military project and the population of the planet knew nothing about aliens or other inhabited planets. Being taken away from that false solitude to another planet must have been difficult for Mamoru, she realized.

Vala let go of the man and took hesitant steps towards the plaque as she read it.

"The Planet is sentient?" was her first question. It was becoming apparent that she was no stranger to space travel. "There must be some sort of a representative around. There must be a way out. They can't just keep us here. You were taken too? How many others are there? Is there anyone who has not been kidnapped, but is original to the place, or someone who has come here on their own?" she spoke very quickly and only paused to take a breath but was already opening her mouth to babble more.

He looked at her quizzically, decided she was babbling, and watched silently as she read the plaque. Not that she allowed him to stay quiet for long, of course. She was likely to drive him completely insane with all of her questions. It really was unfortunate that he'd been the first one to meet her. Others were so much better at this greeting thing than he was.

"Yeah, the Planet is sentient. Lonely, I think. And bored, wanted to play with us. People are from all over, as far as I can tell."

Of course, with all the time travel and stuff that had happened in his own world, he wasn't as alarmed by this as the average citizen of Tokyo or any other city on the earth of the 20th century would be.

"The golems are the representatives of the Planet, as far as I can tell. I don't know about a way out, it did say we could never leave. Only the golems are native to this place, every person was kidnapped from their own world."

She stared at him, then she stared at the plaque, and again at the man.

"So... so what? We're just supposed to be here for the rest of our lives because a planet is lonely?" Then she pointed at the plaque, at the part that said 'Your every need will be fulfilled'. "Has anyone been exploring what this really means? Could I get some sort of a vehicle? A ship? Or ship parts? An engine, at least, to start with? Because you see," her voice was getting louder and louder, "I can't stay here for all eternity! I need to get back! I have a need of an operational ship! D'you hear me, Planet?!" she screamed at the plaque as if it was the ear of the planet.

Then she stepped back wiping her face with her hands, panting a little after that burst of rage.

He rubbed his temples slightly, trying to soothe away a headache that was starting. He really, really hated greeting people, he decided. But he had a duty to see this through. At least she'd gotten her room key, and knew roughly the situation now.

"None of us really... want to be here, Vala. I didn't wake up that morning and say to myself 'Mamoru, you know what you really need? To get into a fight that nearly kills you, and then get kidnapped by a planet with boredom issues'. I didn't do that, and I doubt anyone else did, either."

He took a couple of steps closer to her, wondering idly how she had the energy to scream like that when she'd been all concussed two seconds ago. But maybe she was a quick healer. Or maybe the injury hadn't been that bad.

"There are people trying to get back, I think. You could probably track them down without too much difficulty."

Vala frowned looking at the key in her hand, finally shutting up for a moment.

"One more thing," she looked back up at the tall man after a pause. "The Ori. The Origin. Do those things ring any bells?"

Now, for the first time since her arrival, she looked like she was in full control of herself and her wits, and she spoke with a concerned tone as if this matter was the most important one so far.

He enjoyed the silence, but knew better than to expect that it would last very long. He was coming to expect that she was pretty much going to always be talking. He supposed he'd probably get pretty good at tuning it out. He sighed softly, not really bothering to hide it.

".....Ori? I know the word Origin, if that helps. But it doesn't have any special meaning. Should it?"

He tried to take her question seriously, since she apparently was, but it was hard when she was pretty much just spouting nonsense.

She shook her head right away waving her hands and urgently answered, "No! No. Noooo. That's good. I hope it stays that way. Good," she then changed to nodding, that eventually slowed and faded away.

"So uh," she began again now finally having some sort of a grasp of what she had gotten herself into this time. "I'm supposed to just live here? In," she looked at the key again, "B222? And do what? Hang around, entertain a bored planet? Should I do tricks? Stand on my head?"

Oh she was definitely feeling better - the touch of sarcasm showed it if nothing else.

He looked at her suspiciously, wondering if he should try to figure this out. But he supposed it didn't really matter very much. Whatever she was babbling on about, it couldn't have much effect on life on Mirage.

"Yeah, you just live here. There's things to do, games rooms, gyms, and pretty much anything you can think of. We're supposed to be enjoying ourselves."

His words echoed her tone perfectly. Sarcasm was not a skill he lacked, certainly. He clearly was not convinced about the level of fun he was supposed to have while trapped here.

"I don't know, I think the Planet is entertained just by watching us scurry around. Like we're ants in an ant farm. This hurricane is the child shaking up the ant farm to see the ants run around, helpless to stop it."

A smug smirk rose on Vala's lips at the notion of enjoying, and somehow her stance to a more feminine one as she set a hand on her hip and opened her black military jacket with the other one. Rather amusingly, she had a bright pink top underneath the very practical uniform.

"Well, I'm sure that we can always enjoy ourselves here, especially if the Planet assists like it promises," she said pointing again at the plaque. "There has to be a way out. Maybe there's a Stargate hidden on the planet, maybe we can build a ship and get the hell out. But until then, I might as well settle down and start, well, enjoying myself."

Her deep exotic voice had become like warm honey, and she looked at the tall muscular man intently as she stepped closer. "Would you like to show me to my room, then?"

Being who he was, he'd been pretty much completely ignorant of any subtext his comment could have. He certainly hadn't meant it that way. But he also wasn't stupid, nor would he ever pretend to be. Her meaning was unmistakable, and he didn't intend to try to pretend not to understand.

"I don't mind showing you your room. It's what a good greeter does, and I'm pretending to be one right now. But nothing else is going to happen."

Firm, direct, and to the point. Even though he was slightly shocked by her forwardness. Women in Japan simply did not act like she was. He looked her over quickly, because he was, after all, a man, before turning away.

"You're in B dorm, which is the building beside mine. We get to go out in the storm."

Vala tilted her head looking at the man - he was amusing. He had checked her out, but he was still oh so proper! Cute!

"Oh, so you're always close by, that's good. Let's go then, the sooner we go into the storm the sooner we're done with it, and the sooner you get to back into the storm if my company is indeed that obnoxious to you," she suddenly added sharply and turned to walk to the door as if hurt. He actually rolled his eyes as he led the way towards the door nearest the dorm buildings. Although, it didn't make him exactly happy to see that she was hurt, but he was the sort to make himself clear about things.

"Just saying. I don't do meaningless.... physical stuff."

He shook his head, knowing he sounded like an idiot, and pushed the door open. He was almost glad to get away from this awkward conversation into the raging storm.

She had to concentrate hard to suppress the burst of laughter after his comment. She decided to be gracious, for once, and let him rest from her comments and questions for a while. Besides they were going out to the storm anyway, and it was hard making snide remarks there. She had no idea where she was supposed to be going, so she shamelessly wrapped her arm around Mamoru's and lifted her collars up as they went outside.

He started to pull away, at first. But then, he reconsidered. Forward or not, she was a small woman at least compared to him, and he couldn't just leave her to fend for herself. The wind might snatch her away. It was just practical. So he sighed once more and held onto her until they made their way into the dorm room. He pulled the door open.

"Ladies first..."

It was said in an almost ironic way as he held the door for her. It certainly was not a view he usually exhibited. And he had to shout to be heard.

Vala ducked into the building coughing sand and ruffling it out of her hair. "You weren't kidding about the storm!" she said and wiped her clothing, and finally looked around. The building looked modern, and reminded her of Earth more than anything, just like the main building as well.

"I usually am not, actually. Kidding, I mean."

He shut the door behind them, and the silence after the roar of the wind and rain was nearly deafening. He ran his fingers through his short hair, ridding it of the sand that had blown into it, before turning to look for the stairs.

"Six, I believe. I'm in A, and there's B, C, D, E, F... I think that's all. But they're all huge.. there's room for a lot of people here."

"There must be a lot of people in here already," she said, talking mostly to herself. She glanced down the hallway to make sure the numbers on the doors began with 1, and then looked up at Mamoru.

"So, mister Making Sure I Don't Want To Have Casual Sex Even When It Is Not Completely Clear That It Is Being Offered," she grinned again teasingly, "my room is that way. I take it you did not want to risk the minimum chance of you actually ending up in my bed?"

If he'd been drinking something, there would have been a very funny moment where he literally sprayed his drink all over the room. As it was, all he did was look at her with an almost comical expression on his face. He kind of looked like a deer caught in the headlights.

He slowly pulled himself under control. He hated himself for losing it, and even more when he saw how much it amused her. He was going to have to watch himself around this one, he was sure. Mirage was a fairly small place, they were bound to run into each other again.
