Day 10 -- Fred and George are Here!
Who: Fred, George and Tonks
When: Day 10
Where: The indoor pool
Why: Arrival
Rating: G
Status: Finished

Sploorg splorrffffersh, the pink liquid sputtered softly. Cooling, it no longer belched bits of itself from the cauldron onto the scratched-up, dinged old oak plank table.

The candelabra swayed to and fro overhead, as it had ever since the two young men in the room began their evening's work. The lads didn't know exactly why it did this: perhaps the previous occupant had cast some spell on the candelabra but what and why remained a mystery. It only happened when they examined the enchantments on magical items, and tonight they wished to unravel how the best flying brooms in the Magical World were put together. What were the exact spells and were they applied singly to each twig or all at once after the tail end of the brooms were assembled?

"What flavour for the everlasting gum?" George wondered as he put the top end of his broomstick against his aqualine nose and peered down its length. His eyes were alternately covered by shadow and exposed to light as the candelabra swayed overhead.

Fred, who waved his wand over the saddle area where one rode the magnificent Firebolt, shot a quick glance over his shoulder at the cauldron and the pink globs hardening around it. "Cayenne curry?" he suggested as his own broom hummed briefly and it shuddered in his hand.

Just then a candle fell from the wildly swaying chandelier, plopping right into the cauldron. The sticky pink substance splashed all around and the twins vanished with a loud popping sound.

Fred's purple pulloever was splattered all over his sleeve. He lowered his arm from protecting his eyes and said "Blimey!" in total surprise.

"Blimey what?" George wondered. He opened one eye while pulling sticky pink substance off the other eyelid.

"Where are we?" Fred demanded, momentarily unaware he still held his Firebolt.

Likewise, George also had his broom. Successfully opening both eyes now, he blinked in amazement. "I doubt they redecorated the prefects' bathroom at Hogwarts--" He stopped abruptly as a galeforce rattled the building and they looked up to see a stormy, angry dark sky on the other side of the glass-encased space. The wind howled. Wild rain slapped the building.

The twins glanced at each other. "Hey, look at you!" they said in unison. Fred reached out to tug a glob of gum off George's green pullover. Both of them had pink blobs tangled in their red hair and splattered all over their clothes. When they heard footsteps, they let go the brooms which floated around the large pool area. They brandished their wands and turned like one to face the unknown person whose arrival was very obvious.

Well, that had been a fun day. She'd spent the majority of it fighting through the insane storm outside, and thought it had been surprisingly good to spent time with the Ranger Marcus, whom she hadn't seen in a few days, her face felt like it had been sandblasted. And, in a way, that was exactly what had happened.

After that fun time, Marcus had run off to change, and she'd decided to head to the pool. She hadn't been there yet, and could really use the services of the hot tub and steam room after fighting her way through the gale force winds outside. The Planet had, once again, read her intentions ahead of time, and she found a number of swimsuits on her bed. Picking a fairly modestly cut, but bright purple one, she put it on.

Soon, she was ready to go, but nothing in the whole world, either hers or this one, could have convinced her to go gallivanting around through a public place with just a bathing suit on. She found a long, very purple robe, and decided it was perfect. Plus, from her long hair to her robe, she now matched. It made her happy, in an odd little way.

She quickly made her way to the indoor pool, knowing that she didn't really have that long before the party started. She'd be quick, but she did want to get some time in at the pool, just relax. When she was pushing open the door, she thought she smelled something odd over the smell of the chlorine, and heard a loud pop noise.

It didn't take her long to locate the source. Two redheaded boys stood, covered in a strange pink substance that she quite liked the color of, actually. They were very familiar to her. A grin made it's way onto her features as she walked over to them.

"Wotcher, George and Fred. Welcome to Mirage. So this bastard planet got you, too?"

"Wotcher, Tonks," they greeted together with great sighs of relief. Their wands lowered at the same time and they smiled at the colourful auror.

"Nice prank, Tonks," George complimented. "How'd you do it?"

Fred looked from the purple of his pullover to the dominant colour their friend displayed and smiled again. "You missed a bit there, luv--"

"Yeah, how come your skin's not purple too?" George finished, crossing the arms of his pink-blotched green pullover.

The master prankers could play along with a joke.

She grinned at the boys, happy to see them here, but then sad at the same time. It meant they'd been taken, and damn it, now she had to try and explain. She sure hoped they responded better than their younger.... older... sister had. Trying to figure it out made her brain hurt. She dropped her robe, showing them her bathing suit which was the same shade as her robe and her hair.

"I didn't want to go overboard, actually..."

She shrugged her robe back on, and looked at them consideringly. They thought she had done this. Which was a logical explanation. Tonks had never been adverse to a playful prank or two, and in school, she'd been a lot like them. She'd mellowed with age, but not much.

"I didn't do it. You've been kidnapped by a senitient planet that got lonely and wanted company. Ginny's here too. And a bunch of people from a bunch of different worlds. It's called Mirage, and no, I'm not kidding."

"Go on, luv, pull the other leg too," Fred retorted.

George blinked at her, wondering for a second if she seemed genuine about this... but no. It was just a prank. "Moody's got you mad too?" he teased yet he glanced around at the pool enclosure. Their brooms were now hovering above a diving board at the other end.

"So where are we really?" Fred wondered, casting a look up as it thundered ominously outside. The storm seemed terribly loud and dramatic compared to what they were used to.

"And what's Ginny doing here? She should be at school. Crikey, maybe this really is the Prefect's bathroom...." George waved his arm to indicate the room.

"Hang on, the lights are muggle electrics," Fred observed all of a sudden.

She sighed softly. Ginny had been hard to convince, but she knew that it might be even more of a challenge to get these mischievious boys to believe her. It was exactly the sort of prank she would have played, if she was clever enough to think it up. Idly, she thought for a second about how she would pull this one off, but then was pulled back by more important things.

"Alright, then... I'll prove it. Come with me."

She pulled out her wand, quickly transfigured her clothing into jeans and a shirt, and then headed for the door. Apparently, she was going to have to skip the hot tub. Still, it would be tons of fun having the irrepresible Weasley twins here. She'd take them to the plaque, and then, well, what else could she do?

Except... there was a party tonight, and it would be really fun to see them try to interact with all these new people. She grinned to herself as she plotted a course for the room with the information plaque on it.

The lads accioed their Firebolts before following Tonks.

"Pity really, she doesn't match me any more," Fred quipped to his brother and then spoke more loudly to the lady: "Tonks, you looked spiffing in your swimsuit!"

"It can't have been a portkey; we didn't touch anything but the brooms and wands. Ouch!" George pulled a bit of gummy substance off his face. "Oy Tonks, you look spiffing in jeans too!" he good-naturedly competed with his twin.

Well, it was at least good to know that being pulled through time and space hadn't changed the Weasley twins, she decided. She mock-glared at them over her shoulder as she led the way through the hallways.

"Yeah, yeah."

Not that it was an unpleasant thing to be told, of course. It was always fun, and she was human enough to like it. She smiled as she finally pushed open the doorway that led to the room with the plaque.

"Alright... read that and then apologize to me for not believing me."

The lads followed her and they looked all around their current surroundings. Not that they had been ignoring their march down the corridors of this odd place, but now that they stopped for a moment, they paid special attention to this newest room. The space was rather empty and muggle-ish.

Exchanging one of their umpteenth glances with each other, the twins moved forward to read the plaque.

"Welcome to Mirage.
This is your new home.
Your every need will be fulfilled.
You will have a place to live.
You will have food and clothing.
You will have entertainment.
You will have company.
You will not be able to leave.
You will not kill. Ever.
If you have questions, ask my assistants.
Love,
The Planet"

"C'mon Tonks, we could make this verysame thing," Fred protested with a laugh. But he glanced up at the lights.

George knew what he was thinking. "Still, the lights didn't flicker when we accioed our brooms."

"'The Planet'?" Fred glanced around nervously. "Are you saying the Planet's so bloody bored it needs jesters? We are not jesters!"

Tonks rolled her eyes, but was still clearly amused. Anyway, they had reacted about a million times better than their younger sister had. Actually, now that she thought about it, they reacted a lot better than she had, too. At least, they hadn't attempted to start a fight with a strong warrior woman, like she had started off doing. Although, that would be an amusing sight...

"Oh, bloody hell. Look around you. If you think I'm strong enough to make all this, you have a better opinion of my magic than I do."

She sighed and walked over to her two friends, tilting her head to the side and just looking at them for a couple of seconds.

"Me and Marcus... a new friend... we're trying to get home. Well, not home together, obviously, but he's trying to get home and so am I and we're helping each other."

The lads also tilted their heads slightly as they watched Tonks looking at them.

"We know you didn't make this place," George started.

"But the plaque, how hard is that?" Fred added.

"We're in some muggle place, right?"

"I can hear Dad going on about the lights right now."

"Where did you say Ginny was, luv?"

"Maybe after we see her we can meet Marcus?"

She sighed again, something she was doing much more often than usual, and something she was pretty sure was going to keep on happening as long as she spent time with these two.

"You're hopeless... fine. You'll figure it out. In the meantime, I guess I'd better get you your damn keys."

As she turned around, figuring she would track down the keys in the foyer where she usually found them, she came face to face with one of the golems. She gasped and nearly jumped out of her skin, recovering only when she realized what it was.

"Don't do that!"

The thing, predictably, ignored her and stumped over to the Weasley twins. It held out something to them, which would, of course, be their room key.

Fred and George blinked in amazement at what was apparently a stone man. Their mouths gaped open but not for long. A variety of commands, all based on revealing what magics might be at work here, came from their lips as they pointed wands at the creature. The entire time their voices filled the room, the golem merely stood there with the key.

George sidled away, trying not to look as if he backed off so he could keep an eye on the thing while he stopped beside the auror. "Tonks, did you say how long you've been here? I don't think you told us."

Meanwhile, Fred grabbed the key. "You're not made with wizarding magic, are you?" he chattered, looking slightly disdainful. Be they Death Eaters or something apparently harmless, he hated minions.

She smiled widely as she watched the twins react to the golem. Maybe she'd been here too long, but the thing just seemed normal to her now. Almost two weeks, she realized it had been, and yet sometimes it seemed like much longer.

"I was pulled away almost two weeks ago, and since I was on my way to do paperwork for the Ministry, well, it just proves that not everything is bad."

She laughed and shook her head as Fred grabbed the key.

"They don't talk, you know...and I think the Planet made them. Right. I'm going to show you to your rooms and then... Oh! There's a party tonight, maybe that will convince you better than I can."

Fred was quite happy to have the golem-thing walk away from him. Relief played across his face. "I think it's just one room for us," he said, holding up the key.

"So you don't know where Ginny's at?" George wondered. "I guess we can just poke around after seeing the room, eh?"

Tonks laughed once more as she saw the looks that Fred gave the golem, and she turned to lead them to their room.

"Of course I know where Ginny is... she's the one throwing the party we're going to. Okay, I'm taking you to your room, and yeah, I guess you have to share. We're gonna have to go out in that, though."

She pointed through a window at the raging storm outside as she led them to the door closest to the dorm rooms.

The lads shook their heads at the storm and they held up their ever-trusty wands. "We're ready."

"Now I'm certain we should believe you," George joked. "I mean if we were dreaming..."

"...we wouldn't make ourselves go out in something like that!" Fred completed the thought. "Do you suppose this planet would listen to us and build some secret passageways?"

They stood together at the exit and stepped aside for her. "Ladies first, Tonks."

The witch grinned at their humor, and then pushed the door open to head out into the storm. A few minutes later, she opened the door to their dorm room.

"Yeah, so, I've been here before..."

She frowned thoughtfully as she led the way through the building towards the room number on the key, and then brightened up as she remembered.

"Right, so, looks like the Planet thought you needed someone to keep an eye on you... your room is right here, and next door... well, you'll see..."

There was a mischeivious gleam in her eye as she surveyed the twins. They were going to be surprised, she figured, when they found out who their neighbors were. She waved as she turned to go.

"See you at the party, then, if you can find it. I'm off to have a good time, there's a bottle of firewhiskey calling my name. Bye!"

"Bye, Tonks!" they called after the brightly-coloured auror, waving to her. They didn't bother with the key and opened the door to their new room with "Alohomora!"

The lights turned on as the door swung inward, at first revealing what could have been a normal muggle hotel room. Then Mirage performed its own kind of magic as the space expanded so it seemed bigger on the inside than outside. The furniture vanished, slid aside or simply turned into something else while the lads watched. Two familiar beds appeared at opposite ends of the space, along with individual wardrobes for George and Fred. In the middle, with the swaying chandelier overhead, stood the old oak table around which the twins did a lot of their work.

"Does this planet steal our things too?" Fred wondered out loud as they walked to the table.

George placed his broom on the ancient oak planks. "Maybe it does. Maybe it studied Transfiguration with McGonagall?"

And a new door materialised on the wall across from them. Intrigued, they followed the obvious invitation. There was a bathroom on the other side.

"Blimey!"

Two smaller versions of the pool-like tub from the Prefects' bathroom at Hogwarts anchored the centre of the room. As the twins watched, the tubs were elevated on a dias rising from the floor and columns appeared at each corner. Mirage had provided a perfect gift, separate to give each of them some personal space and yet, together.

Suddenly Fred reached out to tug on a chunk of pink gum in his brother's red hair.

"Ouch!" George slapped his hand away. "Leave it! Let's bathe to get rid of the mess."

"Brilliant!"
