She'd met with the scraggly creature calling itself the Cheshire Cat several times. She had to save Wonderland, she was the only one that could face the Queen of Hearts. The outer world meant very little to her. Leaving Rutledge Asylum would be a blessing, the horrors she'd seen...
Alice shook her head resolutely. It mattered little to dwell on such things. There were more important things, plans to make, the place she considered her home to save. She and Cat had formed a plan. She wasn't sure why she had to get to Wonderland this way, but then she'd never found the rabbit hole again, and the looking glass had been destroyed in the fire. She was just happy that Cat had found her, even if its fur was only there in faded patches and it'd lost a great deal of weight. Cat was usually right, even if the riddles did drive her to distraction.
But still, this way... she was nervous, even as she made her way to the top floor of the asylum. The other residents had been particularly cruel that day, daring her to take a leap off the "rotting ledges" that traced a path around the attic. She'd smiled at them, an innocent, childish smile gracing her pale features, and the weakest of them had backed off. It amused her.
The attic was chilly, even in the middle of the day. Cat was there, waiting for her. The window was already open. She was nervous, but wasn't sure why. After all, she'd be seeing Wonderland again soon, even if the method of getting there was a bit unorthodox. Still, she supposed, no stranger than fitting down a rabbit hole. Maybe if she took it at a bit of a run...? She leapt. It was almost as good as she'd imagined being able to fly would be. She closed her eyes and relished in the feel of the wind, the freedom of being in the air.
With her eyes shut she didn't realize she was plummeting toward the ground. She didn't see a thin black cat, malice bright in its eyes as she got ever closer to her death. She did, however, feel her body hit the ground. It hadn't hurt much, but she didn't want to do it again. She opened her eyes. The sky was dark, wind whipping her hair and clothes fiercely even as the rocks she'd landed on scraped at her hands and feet. She staggered to her feet before glancing warily at her surroundings. "This is NOT Wonderland, Cat!" she said crossly as she looked down at her companion.
But Cat wasn't there. Alice appeared to be quite alone.
