Day Ten
Who: Faith and Gabrielle
When: Early Afternoon
Where: In the gym
What: Working out, and a chance meeting
Rating: PG-13 since this is Faith
Status: Complete

Faith was pretty much the furthest thing from happy that the young woman could be. She'd had arrangements with her new Watcher, Severus Snape, to meet him for a training session yesterday. Unlike for most people, for her Watcher she actually tended to do as she was told, as long as it didn't go too badly against what she wanted to do anyway. So, she'd waited on the beach in the storm all day, and he'd never shown up. This did not make Faith a happy little Slayer.

Apparently, she was going to have to train herself, if her Watcher was too wussy to come out into a little storm like the one outside. Soon, she knew, she was going to track him down and kick his ass for this, but if she did that now, she might actually seriously hurt him and then where would she be? He was still her Watcher, after all. So working out some annoyance first might be a good call.

There was always one really amazing way to do just that, so as soon as the young woman woke up just after noon, she tied her long hair back into a ponytail, put on a pair of sweats and a comfortable tank top, and headed out. Her destination was the gym and fitness area that she'd heard about, but hadn't actually visited. Nothing better than a good workout to get herself back under control! Or as under control as the girl ever was.

As she made her way over to the main building, she shrugged as the strong winds buffeted her around. Still storming then. What a drag. It better stop soon or she was going to go crazy from being cooped up. This gym better be good. She made her way there and looked around with a soft whistle. A girl who had never had much money, she'd never seen anything like this. Everything brand new, nothing broken, and the selection of machines was amazing.

Without waiting even long enough to dry off, the dark-haired slayer made her way over to the first machine, closest to the door. Putting on far more weight than her slender frame should even be able to lift, she quickly threw herself into her workout. She didn't know how much time passed, but after awhile, she heard the door open and someone walked in.

With Xena having plans, Gabrielle was left by herself for the day and honestly, had no idea what she was going to do since she was so used to being with Xena all the time. The bard peeked out the window, seeing the storm still strong and knew she couldn’t let that keep her in doors. She’d figured she might as well brave it and go out but where? After a quick shower, she got dressed in her red bra top and skirt, lacing up her boots only to put her gauntlets and armbands on.

She looked over what there was to do and decided with checking out the gym. She grabbed her Sai’s, hoping she could find a way to practice with them. Just like Xena, she saw now reason why she should let her body go soft. There might never be any real danger on The Planet but that didn’t change the fact that still, she was a warrior. Slipping on a raincoat, she walked out of the room and headed towards the gym.

The wind was hectic but she managed, getting herself to the gym only to open the door, walking inside, sliding the coat from her body. She hung it up and looked around at all the equipment, having never seen anything like this then again; they didn’t have any equipment like this in Greece.

The warrior bard walked around the room, her eyes taking in the equipment, hearing that someone else was in the room. She froze and let her blue-green eyes dart around seeing another woman already there working out. She watched her a moment sensing she wasn’t a threat though she was curious as to who she was, not really knowing very many people on The Planet seeing as how she hadn’t really put herself out there. She walked over to the mats and began to stretch out her muscles before putting herself through a workout, also wanting to get some work in with her Sai’s.

Her dark eyes tracked the small blonde woman as she made her way into the gym area, although she kept working out as she did it. It would be easy to dismiss the pretty girl, who looked too delicate to even pick up those sai's that she carried, but something about the way she moved, and the aura of confidence, made her think maybe she should watch more. And, in fact, when the woman started stretching, she saw that she'd been correct.

She tilted her head to the side as the woman began to stretch, and even stopped using the machine she was on. Should she leave her alone, to do her thing? Some people hated being interupted in the gym. But then, she wasn't really the sort of person to give a damn if someone wanted to talk or not. She hadn't really met enough new people, considering she was in a whole new place. It was shocking, really. Usually, she would be all over the place, meeting new people.

Her decision made, the young woman got up off the machine she was working out with, and headed over to the mat area. Hell, she was bored anyway, and the weight training was only sort of making it better. Once by the wall near the mats, she leaned on it casually and watched with a slight smirk on her face as the other woman went through a series of stretches.

"Nice outfit..."

Her tone left it completely uncertain if she was being sarcastic or not. With Faith, it was very hard to tell. Half the time, she wasn't even sure.

Gabrielle lifted the Sai’s from her boots, moving them in her hands, zoning out all around her as she focused on the way she moved them, turning the weapons in her hands, her eyes staying focused. She wasn’t sure what to do with the equipment. She’d figured that out in a little while. Most of her exercise and training done while Xena and her fought.

Sensing movement, the bard turned her gaze only slightly to see the woman that had been working out coming towards her. She felt herself grow a bit nervous, having never actually met anyone here. She heard the comment of her outfit and slowly lowered her sai’s, giving the woman her attention.

She took in the sight of this woman, taking in what she was wearing, puzzled by the attire. She figured it was comfortable. “You too.” She said, placing the Sai’s back in their bands around her boots. “I’m Gabrielle.” She stated, stepping forward to offer the woman her hand, taking the woman’s words as a way to make introductions.

Damn, the woman knew how to move. Not that Faith wasn't sure she could take her, but maybe, just maybe, it would hurt a little bit. She weilded her weapons like she knew how to use them. She wished she'd brought her sword, she could challenge the other woman to fight her, and see how she really measured up.

She glanced down at her outfit, comfortable and easy to move in, and of course, the tank top was just a little sexy, because that was her style. She didn't see anything really deserving of being called nice, though, so she just shrugged the whole thing off. Seriously, though, the other woman's outfit reminded her of those weird ass Ren Faire things that she'd seen a few times. Kinda weird, but she could dig it.

"Hey, Gabrielle. The name's Faith."

She took the other woman's hand and shook it firmly, but didn't try to crush her hand. After the handshake, she dropped the blonde woman's hand and continued to size her up.

"So, like, what nuthouse are you from, and what's your gig? This planet thing took people from all over, yeah? What's your story?"

Hearing her name, Gabrielle smiled. “Nice to meet you.” She said, knowing it truly was nice to meet someone else that lived on The Planet though deep down, she knew she could stay in Xena’s company and not care. However, she was going to take this opportunity to meet someone and enjoy it, since she was the more social one of the two of them.

At the woman’s questions, she looked at her a moment almost not sure of what she was asking until it clicked in that she wanted to know where she was from. It was obvious just by the clothing styles they were from different times, hers obviously more ancient then Faith’s.

“I’m from Greece, around the time of the God’s.” She replied, pausing a moment, figuring that was the best way she could explain, “There I was a warrior and a storytelling bard. I traveled with my best friend, Xena. She’s here as well.” She added.

“And what about you?” She asked, curiously, waiting to hear where Faith was from, though she already had a feeling she might know where it was even when she heard it.

The woman seemed friendly enough, though a bit distracted by something or other. That didn't bother Faith much, though. She wasn't exactly tactful, and it didn't much matter to her what anyone else thought, as long as she was enjoying herself. This was pleasant enough, and she was content to continue leaning against the wall and chat.

"Greece? Seriously? You don't look Greek, too blonde and stuff... I was with this Greek guy once and he was much darker. Huh. Weird."

She pursed her lips as she thought, trying to work out exactly when the blonde woman was from. The time of the Gods? Eventually, she just shrugged. She didn't know a damn thing about history, and gave up at deciding it was just a really long time ago.

"I'm from the United States, which I doubt you've heard of. I don't think it existed when you were taken. I've lived all over, but lately, I kicked my boots off and bunked down in Sunnydale. Lots of bad guys to dust there. See, I'm the Slayer. I kill vampires and demons and shit... or at least I did. Before."

[sorry. this is really kinda short. i'm slightly blocked.]

Gabrielle looked at her a moment, her brow rising at the statement of being with someone who was Greek. She was slightly confused but brushed it off. The bard noticed her confused look at the mention of the God’s. She wasn’t sure if she should explain or not, conversation usually not this hard to make then again, she had never meet anyone from a different time or country than her.

“The United States?” She questioned, scrunching her nose. Faith was right, she’d never heard of it, the conversation confusing her even more when she mentioned vampires and demons. She slowly nodded. “Never heard of vampires. What are they?” She asked, curiously, always liking to expand her knowledge of something.

That got a raised eyebrow from the dark-haired girl, and a soft laugh. Maybe some people didn't believe in vampires, but she'd never heard of anyone who actually had never heard of them. But she could tell Gabrielle was being completely serious, and it blew her mind.

"A vampire, it's a person with no soul who, like, gets all ugly and sucks people's blood. Or, at least, that's how it was on my world. Here, there's different types, I guess. But they're all dead, and they all suck blood to survive."

She'd never had to explain to anyone what a vampire was before, and kind of thought she'd messed it up. Eager to change the subject, she pointed at the weapons the woman had put away right as she had come over. With a bit of a challenging look on her face, she smirked.

"You any good with those?"

Gabrielle listened to Faith as she explained what a vampire was, hanging on to every word. She got the gist of what they were. People with no souls who survived on blood. She figured that was the most important to know about them. “Interesting.” She said, quietly, letting the conversation switch as the brunette motioned to her sai’s.

She smirked. “I’d like to think so.” She said, reaching down for them, twirling them in her hands so the tips were pointed in towards her. “Also good with a staff.” She added, having grown in her fighting skills since she first started traveling with Xena, something she knew the warrior was proud of.

“Are you trained with any weapons?” She asked, curiously, figuring a slayer would have to have training, though she had no idea. She looked the woman over, almost sizing her up but she wasn’t one to challenge anyone.

More than happy to allow that line of questioning to end, after all, who didn't even know what a vampire was? She glanced around the area. It was, after all, a gym, maybe... Yes! Over by the wall there was a rack of weapons. Maybe it hadn't been here before now, and was only there because she'd been looking, but it didn't much bother her.

"I'm trained with all weapons. Sword, Axe, Knives, hand to hand... you name it, I can hurt people with it."

She watched as the woman played with her own weapons, and nodded. She certainly did seem to know how to handle them. After a short time, she shrugged and walked over to the weapon rack that may or may not have just appeared. She probably had trained with a sword the most, so she picked one of those before turning back to the blonde.

"Alright... look. I haven't actually trained for a couple of days, since being here. Wanna spar? I won't actually hurt you, I promise, I just could use a workout."

Gabrielle nodded slowly, hearing she was trained with all types of weapons. That intrigued her a bit, not to mention the idea of training with someone that wasn’t Xena. She knew she needed some work as well, needing to keep up with her skills as well. At the question if they could spar, she nodded.

“Sure, that sounds good. It’ll be good to get some training in though there doesn’t seem to be much to do with fighting skills.” She said, putting her sai’s back in their holders then walked over to the wall with her, eyeing the weapons before reaching for a sword.

“I need some work with the sword.” She told her, moving to stand on the mat, changing her stance into a fight stance, holding the sword in her hand as if she was used to using it all the time. “ready?”

The Slayer's dark eyes lit up as the woman agreed to fight her. She watched approvingly as the blonde woman went to the weapons rack and picked out a sword, very similar to the one she was using. It had been a long time, it seemed, since she'd last trained with someone who knew what they were doing. The last one, she remembered, had been a blonde too...

But she didn't want to think about the other Slayer. Here, she was the one and only, and that felt good. So she pushed that thought away, and stood ready as the other woman prepared herself. She took very little seriously, but this was one of the few things that she threw her whole being into.

"Alright... let's do this."

Suddenly, she lunged forward, and her blade darted out to test Gabrielle's reflexes. She didn't put everything into it. Flashes of her stake going into the heart of the human, and not vampire, deputy mayor flashed through her head. She shuddered. She wasn't going to let that happen again. But neither was she going to not fight. So she took sort of a middle ground, testing but not overwhelming.

Gabrielle nodded at her words, watching Faith closely as if to read her movements. She phased out all around her, listening to everything beyond the sounds. As the brunette lunged forward, the bard stepped back, bringing her sword up to meet Faith’s, blocking any attack that she possibly could.

Using a sword wasn’t her strongest weapon but it was slowly becoming one, though she needed more practice with it and was glad to have this chance. She remembered the first time Xena taught her to use a sword. She had to practically force the warrior princess to do so. However, most skills she picked up from watching her soulmate fight.

She focused on her technique as she moved the sword, rather enjoying training with Faith. She watched as her opponent moved, hoping she was getting the most out of this as well.

As her attack was blocked, she smiled a little, impressed. But that didn't mean she let up for a second, though she was still holding back a little bit. This woman hardly seemed strong enough to match her, but then, people could say that about her and Buffy, too. You just couldn't tell by appearances.

"Wicked... at least you won't break..."

It was part of her style to speak during fighting. Not all the time, not constantly, but just little comments here and there. Usually insults, of course, but she didn't really have anything against the blonde she was fighting, so she kept it more to simple observations.

"Okay, see there? When you returned my attack? You left your side open for a sec."

She hoped the girl didn't mind her saying things like that, but it had been true. She was having a good time, the woman was good enough with the weapon to make it a challenge. Faith suspected if she put her whole energy into it, she would be better, but that wasn't what this was about. It was, actually, a fun challenge just in and of itself to hold herself back a little. She wasn't used to that. You didn't hold back with vampires.

Gabrielle smirked at her words. “No, I won’t break. Trust me.” She told her, continuing to spar with Faith, feeling the adrenaline start to kick in and pulse through her body, it making her miss home a lot more, just for the occasional fight, though the people Xena and her faced were usually warlords, the occasional God.
Hearing Faith’s words that she left her side open, she nodded. “Thanks.” She said, attempting to improve her form as their swords moved, clashing against each other. She kept her eyes on Faith, watching her every move, seeing how nice her form was and strong she looked.
After a while, Gabrielle stopped, feeling the need for a breather and something to drink, looking at Faith. “Good spar.” She told her with a smile. “Where’d you learn to fight so good?” She asked, curiously. “Or does it just come naturally?”

Gabrielle was good. She wasn't that surprised. Sometimes, it seemed that the ones that looked the most delicate and pretty where the ones that you really had to look out for in a fight. Sort of like herself, when it came down to it. She smiled at the thought, and pressed the blonde woman hard without actually challenging her beyond what she thought she could handle. That was the hardest part. She didn't normally have much control.

When Gabrielle broke, Faith felt the urge to chase her, to finish the fight. It was an effort, one that many times she probably wouldn't have been able to make, but she backed away and set the sword back in the weapon rack. Gabrielle hadn't done anything to her, they were just sparring... like Buffy. That was all. It was the same thing. She reminded herself of these things continually as she took deep breaths.

"Yeah, wicked cool. I learned all over the place, I guess, there's these old guys who teach Slayers how to fight and I picked up from them, you know? And trained a lot myself, of course."

She turned to face the warrior woman, who she had a whole new level of respect for now, and tucked her dark hair behind her ears and she looked at her.

"Hey, what about you? I mean, you are pretty damn good. What sort of crazy world are you from that you need to be that good with a weapon?"

Gabrielle set the sword back on the rack then walked over to the mini-fridge that was stacked full of water bottles. She pulled two out and handed one to Faith before taking the lid off her own, taking a drink, hearing that she had learned to fight all over the place and trained herself. She could tell she put a lot of effort into her training.

“You’re really good.” She told her with a smile, hearing the question about her. She walked over and sat down. “I mostly learned from watching my best friend, Xena fight. I did get some training with the staff from the Amazon’s but mostly, I picked up everything myself.” She replied.

She thought about the best way to explain why she would need weapons where she was from, realizing their worlds were completely different. “We fought for the greater good, protecting the villages and towns from Warlords, thieves, wars with the Romans, fighting the occasional God.” She told her, setting the water down.

The bard walked back over to the weapon rack and picked up a staff, shifting it from hand to hand. “Up for another round?” She asked, curiously, a smirk crossing her lips.

She accepted the water, though she was barely winded. It had been a pleasant work out, but nothing that had tired her out very much. Of course, she had quite a bit of energy, and had even before she became a Slayer. Still, the water tasted good, and she drank quite a bit of it down.

"Yeah, same to you, blondie. You're tougher than you look."

Which, for Faith, was a compliment. She listened closely as the other woman spoke, nodding thoughtfully. Except when she she came to one certain part...

"Woah, wait, hold on. Gods? Are you fucking kidding me?"

But that was quickly shaken off as she was basically challenged to go more. She grinned, and laughed in delight. Of course, she was up for more! When was she ever not up for more? She didn't answer in words, just walked over to the weapons rack and picked out a sturdy staff. She didn't have as much experience in this weapon, but she'd wing it. When she'd picked one, she went to stand on the matt once more.

"Alright, girly, let's do this."

Gabrielle let out a low chuckle, knowing she got that a lot. Most people though of her just as Xena’s little sidekick. At one point, she was. The battling bard had grown into a quit the warrior over the years she traveled with Xena, something she was grateful for as well since they always seemed to get into some pretty tough situations.

“Thanks and no, I’m not kidding you, The Gods. You know like Ares, the God of War? Athena?” She questioned, smirking, remembering that Xena had brought forth most of the God’s death right after the birth of Eve. She watched as Faith picked out a staff, excitement rushing through her. She was looking forward to fighting with a staff.

“Yes, let’s.” She said, eyeing Faith’s movements before starting to fight with her, liking this because it gave her a chance to work on her form and movements, wanting to avoid being hit by the staff that was in the other woman’s hands, though they weren’t fighting to hurt one another, it was still good practice.

She couldn’t help but wonder why Xena and her never sparred like this then again, she quickly realized that even if they were too, the warrior princess would win no matter what, her skills just that much better.

Fighting and talking at the same time was never anything that remotely phased the dark-haired Slayer. So she didn't even consider stopping the conversation as she fell into a stance and enthusiastically swung her staff, connecting with the other woman's. Here, she wasn't quite as strong, though not weak by any stretch. After all, a girl had to use what came to hand in a fight, and sometimes, there were poles around.

"Gods. Dude. Wild. Like... you actually met these Gods? Face to face? Not through prayer and shit like that?"

Her words were punctuated by the rhythm of their weapons meeting, parting, and meeting again. She laughed as she fought, having never believed in anything resembling a religion, and now there was this girl talking about the Gods like she'd just seen them at the corner store the other day. It was crazy.

"Ares....? Athena... Oh, that one I've heard of in one of the classes I actually went to, something about peace or wisdom? I dunno... I always liked Aphrodite, that bitch is badass."

And that, right there, was pretty much the complete and total limit of what she knew about the Greek Gods. She laughed again and shook her head as she stepped out of the way of a well-aimed staff attack that would have hit her fairly hard on the arm if it had hit. More than she looked, definately.

Gabrielle smirked hearing Faith’s amusement. She nodded at her question of meeting them face to face, knowing that was probably a shocking thing for someone to hear but she had and honestly missed Aphrodite, the Goddess and her actually rather good friend’s though Xena was never fond of her since her magic always seemed to land them in loads amount of trouble.

“Athena is the Goddess of War and Wisdom, among other things.” She said, smirking, a giggle escaping her lips hearing Faith say Aphrodite was a badass. Oh she’d love to hear you say that. We’re actually really good friend’s.” she told her, continuing to spar with the staff, pointing out a few tips to the slayer on using the staff, figuring she could help her in any way possible.

As they continued their training, using different weapons and trying out hand to hand combat, the bard felt herself growing rather hungry, the work out proving to have an effect on her. As they finished, she picked up her bottle of water, taking a drink, noticing it was about afternoon now. “Want to grab some lunch?” She asked, curiously.

She shrugged off the question of which God covered what, not having much interest in the whole situation. Though, it wasn't like anything she'd ever heard of that a person could talk to a God, and have them talk back. It bent her head a little bit, but she was pretty good at sensing when people were lying, and Gabrielle clearly wasn't.

As they fought, she listened to the other woman, who was just a slight bit better than her at using the staff. Neither student nor teacher was exactly a familiar role to her, but she'd gotten better at learning since being a Slayer, and she did it slightly better.

When they stopped, she had a whole new level of respect for the blonde woman, not that she showed it. In most things, she was better, but she knew it was because of her superior strength from being the Slayer. Without that, she wondered if they'd be dead equal.

She drank down a good part of her water, a bit sweaty now, but feeling fairly good. Other than, of course, the predictable feelings she got when she had been in a fight, but since this was just sparring, it wasn't too bad. Something she could control.

"Yeah, for sure, food! Let's go to the cafe, yeah? I want a damn hamburger..."

Gabrielle placed the staff back where it had belonged, wiping the sweat off her forehead with a towel. She felt really good right now and was almost eager to continue their sparring match but decided against it. She had gotten in some good training and besides hunger was upon her. She was glad Faith agreed and nodded.

“To the café.” She said, smirking, walking out of the gym with her; enjoying the Slayer’s company. As they walked, her eyes caught sight of a flyer hanging on the wall. She stopped to look at it, reading that there was a party going on. She was immediately interested in going and wanted Xena to go with her.

“Are you going to go to this party?” She asked, curiously, looking at Faith, awaiting her answer, forgetting a moment about the food. She figured at the party she could introduce Xena to Faith having a feeling her warrior princess might find the slayer interesting, at least with her fighting skills.

It wasn't long until the two women had left the gym, and were headed off towards the cafe. Faith had been lost in her own thoughts, despite the idle chatter they'd been tossing back and forth, and was surprised when the blonde stopped.

"Hmmm? A party?"

It was the first she'd heard about it, but it wasn't like she had to think very much. It was a party. Of course she was going. She'd never consider otherwise.

Gabrielle looked over the flyer once more, reading where it was going to be and what time, knowing she’d need some time to get ready. She turned her gaze to look back at Faith, nodding in response to her question on if she was going or not. “Yeah, I’ll be there. I have to convince Xena to go with me though.” She said, smirking, thinking about her warrior making her smile a bit.

“She’s not much of a party person. We’re always the ones saving them or breaking them up.” She told her, thinking of their past adventures. “But I’ll be there for sure.” She added, not wanting to drag on and on about Xena and her though for the bard, that was easier said then done since she was a bard that liked to tell stories, which just so happened to revolve around Xena.

"Wicked. I'll see you there, then. I hope it's not some totally lame kids thing, though."

She wasn't quite sure exactly who this Xena person was, except that she was definately a friend of Gabrielle's. And that she seemed to be a close one, which made Faith a little scornful, but also, if she admitted it to herself, a little envious. She didn't really have close friends.

"Well, let's go get some food!"

She changed the subject as the two women walked down the hallway together.

“Great!” Gabrielle said smiling, excited to see her at the party. She nodded, heading into the café with her only to take a seat in a booth, glancing over at the menu rather quickly before deciding on something new to try. After they ordered, the two chatted about anything and everything their conversation continuing while they ate.

She saw it was just after noon and decided she should probably go, find Xena and get ready for the party. “So, I’ll see you tonight?” She asked, curiously, looking at Faith, hoping their friendship would grow. She did like the idea of being friend’s with her.

As she finished up, she stood. She'd had a surprisingly large amount of fun with the blonde woman, and didn't hate the idea of seeing her again.

"Yeah, for sure. See you there. Oh, and we should train again sometime. Maybe bring this Xena girl, too, next time if she wants to come."

She smiled, a sincere smile for once, and stood up. A shower before the party sounded like a great idea.

"Later, Gee."

It was her custom to nickname someone by just calling them the first letter of their first name, when she really liked them.
