As amusing as it was, Quinn was not ready for the bird punch that got thrown his way. He took the blow with a grunt, eyes going wide at the sheer shock of it all. Did that just happen? Had he really just been hit by a bird? He felt little in the way of pain, his ability saw to that. It was practically always on and there wasn't much he could do about that.
He took a step back, hands still outstretched from earlier, eyes still wide with surprise. Had he known he was going to get into a fight with a bird, he would have better prepared himself for it. Quinn was speechless as he stared at the two, the highly aggressive bird (why wasn't he in a cage?) and the obviously distressed woman. He wasn't sure whether he should continue to try to help or if he should step away from the scene completely. It was plain to see that the bird did not want him here and by the way the woman was speaking to him, telling him to go away, Quinn figured she didn't want him here either.
He couldn't just leave her there though. With an aggressive bird that was willing to take shots at people.
It hadn't occurred to him that this strange woman was actually talking to the bird. He figured all of the squawks were coming only from him, her, whatever it was. Quinn had never seen such a bird as this before. He had no idea what it was, really.
In the end, he decided to go against both party's wishes. He took another, slow, tentative step forward, eyes focusing on the flapping bird, staring at its feathers. As loud as it was, it was actually rather beautiful once he got a really good look at it. "Hey now," he said calmly, his voice soft. Another step forward, his arms outstretched, ready to catch the bird if it came charging at him. "Hey now," he repeated once more, this time a little more soothing.
He had never tried to calm an agitated bird before.
