WHO Quinn and Lilit. WHAT PEACOCKS. WHEN Saturday, 2 June; before noon. WHERE Near the animals! RATING PG-13 for potential language. STATUS Incomplete!
Quinn still couldn't believe his luck. He had managed to find the one man he had been looking for for months now. And it had only taken him three tries! He was glad to be over with the search though, to have finally found Tom. He was also glad that he was technically an employed man again, but that was only the frosting on the cake. In truth, and while he may not have been screaming it at the top of his lungs, he really, truly did miss the old man. It had been hard during those first few weeks after she left, taking all of his money (what she could find at least) and most of his personal belongings as well. In those times, Quinn had mentally kicked himself for staying, for not following Tom the second he decided to leave. All for a girl too. How pathetic.
That was in the past though and Quinn was quickly getting used to his new life now. Sure, it had only been a day, but he found it easy to get into the swing of things. His task wasn't that hard to accomplish after all. Head of Security. He liked the title. He liked how prestigious it sounded. It made him feel important and all he had to do was walk around, keep an eye on the customers and be on the look out for any trouble. Trouble that Quinn easily could spot a mile away. He had learned that at an early age, his mother constantly lecturing him and calling him a magnet for it.
Quinn was already hard at work, walking the grounds and being ever watchful. It wasn't noon yet, but he had already been up for six hours now, walking, watching, and taking stock of everything around him. He had never been one to sleep in anyway. He made note of the trailers, the tents, the lay of the land. Ice blue eyes roving over everything. No one approached him. They only watched as he walked by with suspicious eyes. He was used to it by now though. He didn't mind the dirty looks that most people gave him. It amused him sometimes. Most of the time he ignored them though. It was the occasional smile that got thrown his way that startled him. Brave young girls trying to catch the attention of the mysterious new guy that the boss was so fond of. Quinn wasn't used to that type of attention.
Completely ignoring the girls, he continued on his path, hands buried deep within the pockets of his slacks. If his sister was here, she probably would have given him some trouble over that, teased him and called him a sissy or some other name she came up with. He would have taken it though. In fact, he would have given anything to have his sister here with him now. Quinn began to lose himself in his thoughts. Wondering how his baby sister was doing. What was she doing? How was she faring? What she was thinking about right this second? Had she found a husband? Was he being kind to her? Did they have children yet? It had been nearly a month since he had last written to or heard from his mother and right then, he made a mental note to write to her once he had gotten settled in. He still needed to stop by his hotel room to collect his things, but he'd get to that later. After the carnival closed down for the night.
A loud raucous pulled him from his reverie. Just what was all that racket anyway? Immediately his feet lead him towards all the noise, curious eyes searching for the source. It was then he came upon the culprits. He had not been expecting to find what he did. All of the squawking was a little distracting, but he couldn't help but crack a slight grin at the scene before him.
Quinn watched as the small woman wrestled with the bird. He stood there for a good minute before actually speaking up. "Excuse me, miss?" There was a hint of amusement behind his voice, though he did not outright laugh. "Do you need any help?" He was already stepping forward before she could even reply, strong, steady hands reaching out for the large, flamboyant, and rather loud bird.
