He flinched and she wanted to swear. He was so damned awkward sometimes. She wasn't going to bite him. Could he see that she liked him? There were times when she just wanted to toss him on the couch and show him that there wasn't a damned thing to be afraid of...but that was just frustration. He troubled her like nothing else, sometimes.
He didn't look at her, which made her heart sink a little, but then he asked her to go to dinner. She was surprised at that and she blinked, her mouth forming a little bow. "I suppose I could. It would have to be a calm night, maybe during the week?" she suggested, subtly hinting at just what it was she did.
Did he really want to ask out a fancy lady? He did remember that she was a working gal, didn't he?
