{ W h o } OPEN!
{ W h a t } Halloween party!
{ W h e n } Halloween (Monday evening)
{ W h e r e } Back lot
{ R a t i n g } TBD, probably varying
{ S t a t u s } Open
After the final performance of the evening, the back lot underwent a transformation. Evelyn had volunteers scurrying all over the expanse of the lot under her watchful eye (and sharp tongue) the second the lights went down in the main tent, stringing decorations and setting out tables groaning with refreshments-- if she was going to handle a party, food was obviously going to be top priority.
Soon the lot glowed with paper lanterns strung between poles, with paper bats, cats and ghosts fluttering in garlands between them. Card tables were laden with cider and sweets and Evelyn's pride, the charm-cake with fortune-telling charms baked into every piece. Carnies and rousties and performers milled, some in makeshift costume, some in even more fantastic outfits than their stage wear (it was occasionally hard to tell who had dressed for the party and who had simply not changed from their act)-- nipping from bottles passed, bobbing for apples (the sober ones more successfully than those who had been nipping from bottles), pranking each other at every possible opportunity, playing with fortune spinners and groaning at the results.
Evelyn, impressive in full black witchy garb, was pleased. Or at least she would be once she'd seen Bailey pull the little silver ring charm from the cake.
(Two OOC notes-- charm cakes were a Victorian tradition that saw a resurgence in the '30s. If you'd like your character to find one, a list of charms and meanings is here. Feel free to add more, as I'm sure Evelyn has adapted the tradition in superstitious carny fashion. Also, around midnight, the hot cider will receive a liberal spiking. Feel free to have your characters notice and enjoy, fail to notice and inadvertently enjoy, or raise the alarm. Sorry this is going up so late!)
