{ w h o } Rémy and Dave. { w h a t } Out with the old, in with the new. { w h e n } Early Friday morning. { w h e r e } Near the tents. { r a t i n g } PG. { s t a t u s } In progress.
Rémy didn't want to admit it, but he was nervous. This was his first day at his new job, in his new home, among new people, which was all a bit nerve-wracking, but perhaps most anxiety-inducing of all was the fact that he was to be doing something separate from Aimé. His brother would not be far, of course, but it was still fairly new territory, considering they usually did everything together.
Today, he was to clean out the old trailer of curiosities to see what - if anything - could be kept from the old dime museum displays of monkey paws and Fiji mermaids, and what he needed to replace. Marjan had been pretty impressed with the couple of examples he'd provided, and now wanted nothing more than an entire walk-through display full of fresh work, that she seemed to think he'd just be able to magically conjure out of thin air. He definitely had his work cut out for him.
Wanting to prove that she had not made a mistake in hiring them, Rémy woke early and dressed his best (first impressions were everything, even if it was just doing menial jobs he'd probably get filthy doing anyway), then gathered up the large, expertly-taxidermied jackalope he'd won Marjan's approval with and stepped outside the tent. He'd had instructions on where he was supposed to take it, but he hadn't really understood them at the time. And now, having been too proud to ask for clarification, he wasn't quite sure where he was supposed to go.
He wandered the same length of tents several times before turning down another alley and hitting a dead end. He turned and walked back, went a different way, and found nothing but some washbasins, long underwear on a clothesline, and Americans staring at him. This was not a good start to his first day.
Rémy wondered if he'd have to relent and ask someone for directions. After his next wrong turn, he decided that yes, yes he probably did. He looked for the next person that wasn't gawking like an idiot.
"Excusez - Pardon me!" he called after the next man he spotted, then hurried after him, toting his oversized jackalope.
