Evelyn couldn't remember feeling so terrible since her mama died. And at least that had been her getting called up to heaven peacefully, no one's fault, not Evelyn going around ruining other people's good health and happiness.
She felt just awful.
She didn't have the courage to face Madison yet. Of course she would have to, but she didn't know how to even begin apologizing. The same with Luc, who'd gotten so riled up over poor Madison that he'd...well, the rumors went everywhere from punching to killing. She hoped it wasn't killing. Evelyn had more than enough on her conscience without that.
For now, the one thing Evelyn had courage to do was confess to Fox why she'd gone in the first place. Fox wasn't always the right person for a heart-to-heart, blunt and crass as she was, but they'd all grown up together. She would at least understand that Evelyn had been thinking of Bailey.
When the evening performances were done, Evelyn made her way from the main tent to the side-tent that served as a makeshift backstage and dressing room, pretty sure Fox was still getting changed and unwinding from the night.
