Stanley returns (solo)

What: Coming home
Rating: PG
Status: Completed solo
Finding a traveling carnival in the mid thirties was not an easy task. Stanley had taken some of the money that he's parents had left him and purchased a trailer and a car to pull it with and headed out along the state highway going north and east. He knew all the stops the show usually made and then it was just a matter of deducing their direction.
It was early Sunday afternoon when he came into Toledo and over a cup of coffee, he managed to chat out of the waitress the fact that the carnival had just left. He got a few biscuits to take on the road and was off again. Cleveland was the next likely stop, so that's where he headed.
As he pulled up to the usual spot, the lights of the cars and the trailers and the ruckus of the camp setting up was almost magical. He didn't approach right away, but got out of his car and leaned against the hood as he watched. It had been a bit over a year since he'd left. What if they wouldn't have him back? He may have sometimes felt like an outsider, but this had been his home for eleven years. He knew they had their own code and he'd, well, he'd sort of broken it when he'd left. It had seemed wiser at the time to make up a story than to tell them the truth although watching the rousties setting the poles for the big top, Stanley wasn't so sure he'd made the right choice.
He was back now though and surely at least some people would be willing to have him back and at least Borys had known the truth. He took a deep breath and told himself to stop wool gathering. Really, nothing more to do for it. He would talk to Borys later, but for now, there was work to do. Stanley shut off his car, rolled up his sleeves and went to help set up.
