Finding out he'd been 'volunteered' by the boss to help frame a house had Danny a little bit worried at first. He wasn't a carpenter! What if he was expected to know things like... Like house-building sorts of things? Fortunately, there were other guys from home--the Czerwinski & Co. Carnival, that is--who'd also been sent out to the unfamiliar job site. That left Danny without a care in the world. Nobody who knew him would expect him to play architect, or even carpenter.
He was strictly unskilled labor, but that was what the job called for anyway. Hefting beams and pounding nails, once somebody else had pointed out just where said nails belonged. It was all in good fun for the carnival's strongman. He might be dumb, but he could put in a day's work. Danny paused to wipe an arm across his brow and glance around to see how his fellow showmen were doing.
