"Because it's true!" She practically screamed the words at him before she was in tears again, whimpering softly as she added, "That's why my daddy sent me away." Really it was because she was a danger to herself. She'd stolen his car, totaled it, had almost died. Being here was for her own good, but she didn't see it that way. She saw it as him giving up on loving her. And Nic had latched onto that nerve and twisted it thoroughly.
