Characters: Bes, Erato, Bes' mortal family Date/Time: The weekend of August 2nd through August 4th Location: The Hobson homestead in Columbus OH Rating: G, I'm sure Summary: Bes surprises his family with a whole bunch of things.
He had made sure to arrive hours before Erato and start the process of filling his parents in on some things. He figured it might make things easier. He hoped it would. As he sat at the kitchen table across from his mother as she blinked at him, though, Bes wondered if he had been right or wrong.
The silence stretched out and he squirmed in his seat, feeling like a naughty five-year-old. Finally, his dad coughed into a raised fist and then shook his head. "Well..." Bes lifted his head to look at Jeremiah expectantly. His father looked solemn. "Well," he repeated. "I guess it's just as well you found her, son." A slow smile grew on his face and Bes felt his muscles relax. "It pretty much takes a saint or a goddess to put up with a Hobson man."
Maria Hobson laughed and reached out to swat her husband on the backside; Bes did his best to pretend he hadn't seen it. "Seriously, Calvin, it's a good thing your sister Leah talks to us as much as she does or else we'd have strokes over all of this information. Haven't you ever heard of baby steps?"
Bes felt his face flush red and offered an apologetic smile. Baby. He hadn't mentioned that bit yet. He figured it was best to wait for Erato to be present for that bombshell. At least his parents were taking the divinity thing well.
"I don't know, Mom. I mean... It's really crazy, you know? And, uh, would you have believed me?"
"Maybe, maybe not. But we believe you now."
"And you're going to worry about me."
"That's what parents do." His father shrugged and moved to slip his arm around his mother's shoulders. "And it's our right to worry. Even though we know you're a sensible young man and you're careful. Though I have to admit. I've never heard of a god named Bes and it's going to take some time to really get this in our heads."
"Though since they're all over the news some days, it makes the concept a little better to hold. Just... Well, you as one is a little much." His mother sighed and gave him a smile. "Just promise me you won't go getting yourself in danger, okay?"
"I promise. I promise with all of my..."
Before he could get any further, the front door opened and slammed and he heard his sister Leah's voice ring through the house. "We're heeeeere! Mom, Dad, come meet your new favorite daughter!"
They laughed and his mother called, "We're in the kitchen, dear. Get your butt in here instead."
Within a handful of minutes, Leah appeared with Erato and Bes rose to his feet immediately, a smile on his face.
