Who: Medusa and Poseidon When: Evening June 14 What: A chance meeting Warnings: Lots
Crazy emails and stupid pain in the ass water gods or no she still had a job and a responsibility to her snakes. Ever since she'd discovered who she was she appreciated them even more. Besides, caring for them would be a nice distraction from knowing that Poseidon was around. The focus she had to give to handling the venomous snakes would block out the anger she felt for the sea god.
It had worked for the most part. It had taken a little bit of cursing at herself but once she started handling her lovelies she was able to tune out all the growing weirdness in her life. She had replaced the last snake to be milked and put its container onto one of the many shelves when the door to her lab opened. Martin, her would be lab assistant and constant source of flirtatious irritation poked his head in and she restrained a sigh.
"Hey. Quitting time was an hour ago Dr. Fletcher." He smiled hopefully at her. "I'm on my way to grab some dinner if you want to join me."
Medusa grit her teeth into a polite smile. She hadn't realized how late it was until just now. She'd like to get some dinner of her own, maybe a drink then get home into something comfortable. And not check to see if Poseidon was on the boards tonight. "Thank you, Martin. But as always, no thank you."
He chuckled but there was disappointment in the sound. "Yeah I know. You draw very distinct and deep lines between professional and personal relationships. But I still hold out hope. G'night, Dr. Fletcher."
She waited another twenty minutes to be sure Martin was gone then grabbed her purse and keys to head out. There were security patrols who would see her from the zoo proper to the streets so she wouldn't have to cut through Central Park. They too flirted with her but it was more of a fondness than any actual attempt so she tolerated it. Besides, unlike Martin, the security guards were useful. Once to the streets she wished them a good night then headed for a nearby bistro where she ate a Greek salad, the irony of it wasn't lost on her one bit, then left to walk in the direction of a pub she liked to stop into from time to time intent on a drink before going home.
She was about five blocks away when she felt it. Power trickled over her skin like a drop of cold water leaving goosebumps behind. She recognized that power and her breath caught in her throat as she came to a dead stop, her eyes casting around for the source. "..poseidon.."
