But if that is the demand doesn't that automatically mean that most working class shows are either gonna be soap operas or comedies?
I'm willing to consider shows about working-class characters with some supernatural elements; however, Dr. Who is (1) not centered around the companions, who change regularly, and (2) not about working-class life on earth, although the most recent couple of seasons have spent a lot more time on earth than previous ones.
Working-class plotlines: Save the park from greedy developers Save the housing development from idealistic environmentalists Save the orphan schoolkids from upper-class bullies
Not Working-class plotlines: Save the park from alien colony Save the housing development from concrete-dissolving bacteria Save the orphan schoolkids from vampires
That said, I'm not "vetoing" anything anyone's contributed. A lot of the shows I'm not familiar with, so I can't say whether they fit or not. (The Wire looks good. I don't get HBO, so I'm limited to Wikipedia entries for the moment.) I'm mostly trying to sort out what is available, and find out if there are trends--are there plenty of lower-class characters in comic book/superhero-based shows, but not in office-centered shows? Are there several good cop shows? Are there any medical-focused shows that are about the patients, not the doctors? And so on.
